I have a question: I can't open directly Heroes maps with Editor. I have to open first the editor and only then to choose the map to open. I tried "properties, open always with...apply" thing but the WoG editor just does not want to appear in the programs list. Any idea how to fix this? How to add the editor as a program.

I have no idea. I had this problem a couple of days ago, but i desided to give up. I thought it's because of my Vista..

I guess it has something to do with our install process. If Heroes is not installed from original disk then regedit is not affected thus the editor is not recognized as program. I always install Heroes from an .iso file because my disks are dead.

Why simply you don't make h3m file assocciation? Just go to File Types in Folder Options and click on new. Or ,right click on hero map , then go on Open With,Browse, find editor and make sure that "Always use selected program" is checked.

Then try to add manualy h3m file association,or run editor like administrator (it should be that option in Vista context menu).

though i'm using XP, i also had similar problem after reinstalling windows, and i found that everything was caused by space symbol in path to map editor (i don't know if it applies to Vista - never tried it)

Hi salamandre, i can only render the stronghold images to either .TGX or .GM1
I've never heard of this formats but maybe you do.

bitmap  is also possible but a lot more work, because every object needs at least 15 clicks in the extract program.

15 clicks? I used at least 80 clicks to extract and compile the animated objects. The animations were in a different folder and the static object in a different folder too. I had to extract every animation, resize it, cut it, and paste it over the object using pixels grid. Considering that I had to do this operation 80 times for each object, I would say 15 clicks is not much

For extensions, the best way is to search over net the program to open those. I extracted objects from 15 games and each one required at least 1 new extractor. I got 7 viruses, crashed 200 times and had to reinstall all 2 times. Thats the price.

Those from AOK were better. Anyway I am done with 200+ new objects imported and I don't plan to make others. Unless I find some animated trees and flowers.

there was actually an easier way to export the graphics. i've also made some GIF's from the trees. i hope you find it usefull:

http://rapidshare.com/files/284915739/New_graphics_E-J.zip.html

the file can be downloaded 10 times, feel free to download it after Salamandre got it.

good luck!

Good job but why wouldn't you try to import them yourself, so you can optimize, delete or add your own preferences?
I can show you how, it is not big deal. First you have to get rid of the pink background, then resize them to multiples of 32x32 (max 256), then create wog files and add the codes in ZEOBJTS.txt.

To get rid of the background:

Use the magic eraser tool and set 30 or so high tolerance number. Delete the background. Open any frame from creatures defs and copy a part of the background (teal 0/255/255). Create new layer, back to initial object, drag this new layer below the original layer. Changing the pink background will not work with all your objects, unless you have a lot of time, coz there are small pink holes in the objects and you will have to hunt them all.

The trees are great and I will do them. Not sure I can remove the pink with them, millions of holes due to animations. However I will have to download the game, as your gifs lowered the quality. Would be great to have the sources bmp for the trees.

Ok I got the game and the model extractor. It is much easier than I thought. Here are the steps for you:

Open the tgx.viewer and:

1) change background to custom/select colors/define personalized colors/teal 0.255.255. Now open again the tgx to see your background changed

2) Click on the desired model then click on Edit/next/save as bmp.

Now you got your pics ready to be imported in WoG without having to change the pink weird background.

Result:

Good luck!
