A heroes game suggestion

This is not a suggestion for Heroes 6, 7 or even 8. this is just a series of ideas for making a well rounded heroes game.

basically, you have classic heroes of might and magic... with a twist. there is a little setting when you start up a game, which can completely alter the town, setting, creatures and heroes you play as (though they still count as the same faction). the simple "Before crisis" and "after crisis" feature that allows for the towns to have totally different styles of gameplay, as well as new atmosphere and tactics. This is showing of the different towns change, decay, revolution, rise and so on, which will be explained out in the campaign.

the story

the whole thing about the crisis is crucial to the story. In the mythology (read mythology as what people believed happened), the armies of gods, children of the almighty and lead by the burning god, trapped and sealed the ancient evil known as "the shadow" inside the Pandoran, a mythical prison held inside a mountain. Only the blood of a god could be used to unseal it. Whilst many gods left the mortal plain, Hernos, the god of the hunt, stayed behind, to protect it, with the power of the wild hunt and his natural affinity with the elves. similarly, the Burning gods children, the dragons, as well as the servants of the almighty, the angels, stayed to help.

eons pass, the Aquila empire rise to power under the protection of the emperor and the angels, living as an optimistic force in the world. meanwhile, the orcs have all be brought under the savage rule of their shamans, who are drawing power from the dragons. they enslave the gremlins, who left their ancient halls for greener living, and put them to work. meanwhile the minotaurs decide to start warring, the ancient halls defenses of golems start going into overtime, the wild hunt is still going strong, leading to invasion of other lands, whilst the underground necromancer movement (known in the lore as the hand) are beginning to stur up trouble.

When the orcs, lead by Jecksrip Ashscar, with the help of a necromancer Lothor, uncover the pandoran and kill Hernos and release the Shadow. The shadow in question is a being called Mestalis, a creature who claims who have built this world and been trapped away by his creation. upon realising what he has unleashed, Jecksrip is killed by his followers. Mestalis goes to Lothor, offering him the chance to become a god, at the risk of destroying the world. Lothor, being a fool, accepts Mestalis offer, and with a blink of an eye, everything changes. the angels vanish, the dragons die in droves, the whole world gets almost completely destroyed, mountains buckling, the seas washing over parts of the land, leaving Lothor with the chance to build a kingdom of the dead, like he wanted. it ends with the necromancers of the white kingdom being the ones ruling the land, the Elves being forced to leave, the Gremlins returning to their ancient halls to create anew, the Empire in tatters, the Orcs reforming into a new, more advanced army, and the Minotaur descenting into decadence.

on a purely personal note, Mestalis I intend to be the real villian. he's a vicious, evil trickster, who is willint to watch the world burn in order to have some fun.

Factions

Ok, this set up is going to be a bit different, as I'm going to have a little bit of text explaining, from the point of view of an important member of the faction, why they are so good etc, and you can judge the way they have changed from that.

Congratulations for the story and the factions. It would be interesting to play with the same factions in different timelines and conditions. I'll have to think more about this before I make some constructive comments.

Bixie, you necromancer. How many times have you ressurected this proposal? Sure there are some new people to show it to and you've fiddled with a couple of names, but the idea is still the same.
Again I say: the Idea is nice, but names alone make no game.

then I shall add some descriptions. unfortunately, editing previous posts is a little bit beyond my account, it seems, so. without further ado...

1. Militia -> men-at-arms
the men of the empire, simple yet strong, armed with their simple hunting bows, in order to protect their land from the dangerous forces outside.
2. footman -> Squire
the military core of the empire, trained for 5 years in their art, providing a defensive line against all those who seek to arm the aquila lands.
3. Griffon -> imperial griffon
mighty allies of the empire, tamed and trained to perform dive bombs on the enemies.
4. Healing hand -> Priest
the church of the almighty, pacifist in philosophy, provides the armies with their tender care and their fiery tongues. the healing hands rally the soldiers into battle.
5. Cavalier -> paladin
the sons of imperial nobles, the cavaliers charge forward in a dashing display of familial colours and imperial devotion, utop mighty war horses.
6. Angel -> arch angel
the servants of the almighty, the angels grace the battlefeild in war regalia as warrior saviors. those who died will be resurrected, as the angel makes it's way.

before stronghold is very technologically backward, they can just about forge weapons, and that's about it. they are also swayed by the shamans power over fire, as well as the dragons ferocity. basically, the shamans had the power over them and did whatever they liked.

after stronghold, the orcs take over properly, and start organising into a proper military force. it's now alot more advanced, with gunpowder, cavalry, proper soldiers, as well as the war furnace, a large war machine built from the ashes of the dragons.

The difference between "before crisis" and "after crisis" is something similar to a preapocalyptic and postapocalyptic world, I guess. One world is utopian and the other one is dystopian.

or vice versa, if I'm honest. the races that generally go from good to bad (in terms of situation) are the Bastion, the Sanctuary and the Haven, whilst those in the reverse are the Necropolis, the Academy and the Stronghold.

ok, after crisis haven

1. Penal soldier-> Penal archer
prisoners who are forced the point of sword into battle, armed only with clubs, chains and under the lash of their prison guards.
2. Flagellant-> wailing Flagellant
farseers of the end times, those who have lost everything, leap into battle armed with chains and flails, desperate to smite the unclean for the name of their forgotten god.
3. chained hypogriff -> unbound hypogriff
the hypogriff's, whilst not as powerful as the griffons, are swifter and more agile in combat.
4. Persecutor -> Widowmaker
the elite core of the witch hunters enter the fray armed with special powerful crossbows, designed to anihalate the enemies with one swift bolt.
5. tortured witch -> savant magician
those who were identified as witches by the imperial college of inquisitors are given very little, and are often sent into battle only to be tortured into casting their foul magicks.
6. Crusader-> destroyer saint
inquistors who have received the ultimate blessing of the theologians, to bath in the remains of the angels, turning them into beings of holy energy to slay threats to the empire.
