i just had a review of what i think about Heroes6..
and guess what.. i changed my mind to worse...
maybe it's the recent lack of news, or excitement is gone..
anyways..

just a quick recap..

Heroes 6 in developement - hip hip hooray!!!!!!!

More RPG - coooool!

all the rest - i don't care!!! more RPG cool!

Factions artwork - Good, gone away from childish HoMM5 style, happy!

1st Factions-

Necromancers - AWESOME!!!! lamassu is da best!!! FTW!!!

Haven - is ok) i didn't expect a lot from them! gonna play them anyways..!

Inferno - well... mmm... lots of abominations, but maybee it's ok... wait, wait, WTF is THAT??? Breeder!!! OMG it's HORRIBLE!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!! Nooooo!!! i just hate it!!! ...
.. i am trying hard... they are ok... and then the image of this horrible Breeder comes to mind... no HATE them!!!

4th Faction-

sylvan or academy, sylvan or academy, sylvan or academy...
..
..
WHAT? Orcs??? Why??? Are they any better than Sylvan than Academy!!! No freggin way!!!! Disappointed!!! Very!!!..
...
...
ANGRY!!!!!

5th Faction-

Sanctuary-
ok let's see the creatures..
shark warriors, kapas- kupas, water woman??? what??? what a hell is that??? is it HoMM or what??? hey Ubi why you feeding us with that instead of Faceless Evil faction...
or give us back Academy with Sylvan!!! even Dungeon will do!!!!

...
no good...
sad...

i am disappointed...

you were doing everything so good, and then you took sylvan and academy from us, and now giving THIS two...

... ehhh

So far I'm loving it.

Every faction is good. Yes, there are creatures I don't like (glories and ghouls are bad ideas ), but between some of the worst designs there are some of the best. Overall there's no faction I don't want to play, unlike Fortress and Conflux of Heroes 3, Inernopolis of Heroes 4 and Stronghold of Heroes 5.

Bosses are something I don't know yet if I like or not, but at least their design is great.
If the game turns out to be like the developers said it will be, with more strategy and a bit less random features, and if it includes a good AI, then I would dare to say that Heroes 6 will be pretty much capable of surpassing heroes 3.

I would say from the still fairly limited information we have on
H6 that they are doing a good job.
what it mostly comes down to for me is good, smooth gameplay...I still can't help but look back at the series and I think H2 accomplished that best...i could still play that game over and over.
I hope blackhole/ubi make this a very highly replayable game

I'm not a fan of most of their decisions (lorewise and in aesthetics).
I don't have an opinion about the gameplay yet since I haven't played it (if ever).

It seems that this is gonna be an excellent game. So sophisticated and with such a depth. Watching the new gameplay video made that thought of mine even stronger. I just want the day that I will install the game come quickly!

yet again i am confused by my emotions regarding Heroes 6 ...
some news made me happy , some not...
but anyways i still have this excitement about the game release..
can't wait!!!
in the end there were always things i liked or disliked in any Heroes series...

my top 3 like's and dislike's

didn't play much H1 and H2, can't say a lot about them...

for HoMM3 it was:

1 - everything
2 - gameplay
3 - heroes world and storyline - SANDRO!!!!

dislikes:
1 - CONFLUX! hated it!!!
2 - thousands of dragons.. was too much for me..
3 - nothing else i can remember of..

HoMM4
likes
1 - atmosphere!!!!! absolutely the best atmosphere of all HoMM series! with the amazing world map design and incredible soundtracks!!!
2 - Absolutely brilliant and incredible storyline!!! oh my God i felt like i was reading an amazing book! a story that somehow i was part of.. good memories!!!
3 - i really liked that terrain was changing on the townscreens! made it feel more realistic!! i mean if you think about it while you are in the forest why would your town be covered with snow!

dislikes
1 - Balance! that was a bit of a problem.. unfortunately.. actually a big problem to be honest..
2 - Creatures roaming around the map without a hero.. was annoying to spend hours to catch them all over.. everywhere..
3 - The fact that you had to choose from to creatures one.. i mean for example why would ever choose Ogre over Cyclops, who was waaay
more useful..

HoMM5
likes:
1 - returning to the roots of H3.. heroes no longer on the battlefield..yei!!
2 - improved graphics!!!
3 - racial ability! liked it!!! wasn't very equal though..

dislikes:
1 - childish design styile.. a big NO NO for me..!!! Atmosphere is ruined!!!strong similarities with Warcarft and Warhammer..
2 - CRAP storyline!!! i mean CRAP!!!
3 - only 1 type of Heroes per faction... what happened to Might AND Magic???

HoMM6 = news and estimations so far
likes:
1 - improved design style!!! for creatures especially!! Praetorian looks amazing, and new ones like Lamasu !!!! Excited!!!!
2 - more RPG!!! i like it!!! like the idea!!! how will it be implimented.. well will see! Heroes are might and magic again! very important and very good!!! N/E/C/R/O/P/O/L/I/S!!!! Looks perfect!!! can't wait to play 'em!!!
3 - more focus on storyline.. oh ... FINALLY!!!! please fix the mistakes of HoMM5..
and Boss fights..mmm..delicious!!! reminds me of Disciples though...a bit.. just a bit...

dislikes:
1 - town screens... very disappointed.. i mean VERY! don't even want to talk about it.. makes me sad..
2 - some creatures that seem very weird for HoMM... Breeders, Shark warriors, Maniacs ... who are they??? what are they doing here???
3 - racial Stronghold replacing possible Sylvan-Dungeon-Academy!!! hmm... do i have to explain??? again??? anyways this one can be fixed with the help of expansions...

I am very excited about Heroes 6. While I thought Heroes V was a solid game, I thought they didn't really take many risks to push the series forward. In comparison, Heroes 6 feels like a breath of fresh air.

Many of the features, such as control points, town portal buildings, and creatures pools will reduce a lot of traveling back over land that has already been cleared, and also reduce the need for errand heroes. It will also allow you a lot more flexibility in responding to intrusions into your territory. On the other hand, I worry that it may be too easy for one hero to defend an entire kingdom, and leave little room for back door or surprise attacks.

Some other things I'm really excited about are the tier system, the faction specific abilities and strategies, and yes, the reduced resources. I am sort of conflicted about the reputation system. It may encourage you to do things just to level up your reputation rather than because they are the best things to do. For example, you may pursue every creature, rather than letting them run, in order to level up your Blood reputation. That could be tedious.

This post is getting long, but I also want to mention that I love what they've done with the Stronghold faction. The Harpy, Centaur, and Cyclops look better than ever. Lest I sound too much like a fan boy, I should also mention that I am fairly cautious. I got very excited about the changes in Civ V, but that game still hasn't been patched to my satisfaction.

So my view on H6 has probably changed to ENORMOUSLY POSITIVE and excited, do more and more negative and critizing.

Pros with H6
1. VIP Team makes communication with the developers etc much easier.
2. All town seem to be very, very unique.
3. Creature design might be better than ever before. Have to get the "feel" of the creatures in-game before I can draw a complete conclusion.
4. Graphics are super beautiful! H6 is probably the best looking game I have seen in a while! I LOVE the graphics! Huge improvement over H5.
5. All creatures seem to have interesting abilities and be rather unique in their way.
6. Many new unique creatures that we have not seen before. Some are already becoming personal favorites such as Kappas, Fate Weavers and Tormentors.
7. The old HoMM games were so slow, so I love some features such as Area of Control where you won't need to be running around the same area all the time.
8. Boss battles. I can't wait to try them out! I really hope there will be some way to recruit them! XD Maybe the grail building could give you a boss creature.
9. There seems to be some kind of Battle.Net thing so I can't wait to go online and pwn people in H6 multiplayer!
10. Hero + skill system is better than ever.
11. New faction.

Cons with H6
1. No war machines suck. I loved the War machines skill and instead of removing them, they should have expanded that system and made it even better.
2. Way to many "spirit" creatures. The need to have X amount of female creatures in every faction feels forced.
3. HoMM just won't be the same without the Wizards, Elves, Titans and Black dragons imo.
4. The extremly strong possibility that Glories are Light elementals and Spring spirits Water elementals make me puke.
5. To few non-elemental neutrals. There is like one, at the most since Phoenixses are elemental. Neutrals could have been made into a strategic thing for multiplayer (neutrals are stronger than normal creatures).
6. Faceless heroes. I hate this. I wan't to see my heroes, kind of relate to them. I hate that they all wear helmets.
7. Removal of real city building and mage guilds etc. Town management is a very big part of HoMM, and now it might disappear forever if the developers see its removal as a success afterwards.
8. VIP Team does not represent the entire community. It is bad that the opinions of less than 0.01% of the fan base has such an impact on development.
9. Finally, the WORST CHANGE OF ALL TIME IN HOMM.

THE DEMISE OF THE TOWNS.

Entering your town in full-scale glory and see it grow, and hear that sound in H3 when you build something and then see it slowly appear in the town was an extremly important part of the feel of the Heroes' games and atmosphere in them for me.

I am incredibly sad over their death.

Going into towns, sorry you aren't even going inside them, is never ever going to feel the same again.
We will have a little window that covers left than half fo the screen and there it will be like 3 options: Buy creatures, go to to the Markerplace and recruit Heroes. All in a small window. We wont even be able to see our towns evolve. To actually even build in them.

And guess what the reason is?

You have to wait less than one second for them to load.

I don't normally swear here, but that's snowing garbage talk and just ridiculous. I would gladly wait to July for real town screens.

10. The developers won't really listen to us. See the town screen incident. It actually made me not pre-order the game and made me decide to get my hands on it in another, less legal (in some countries) way. I simply do not have any wish at all to support them after the town screen stuff.

Well I don't know about anything else but they definitely hear this complaint. It is a hang-up for me as well. It's just that it would be really difficult to change the screens at this point due to the nature of the interface. Wait until you actually see the finished screens, give your judgement and they will probably be in a better position to decide on what to do.

From what I've seen I like it, but there are 2 basic criteria that I'm hoping people in BETA will confirm:

1)  When you press "end turn", the computer quickly takes a competitive turn.

2)  There is general overall balance between factions & creatures.

If these 2 are true then I'm really looking forward to playing

Xerox, let me get this straight... of all the "CONS" you listed, the reduction in size of the town screen is by far the worst?  And to such an extent that you refuse to purchase the game despite all of the "PROS" you listed?

I loved the town window too, but c'mon.. you can't be that serious, can you???

What was worse then?

No War Machines
- It's just a skill and I do not really care a lot about it. I am not going to think about it a lot anyway.

Too many spirit creatures
- I might love some of them when I play with them in-game. Can be modded too, though I do not think the community should do the developers job.

No Academy etc
- Will probably come in expansions.

Glories are Light elementals
- Totally sucks too but can also be modded.

To few neutrals
- H5 did not have a lot either. I do not think I ever had a H5 neutral in my army, because there weren't any dwellings for that (which there should be with neutrals).

Removal of city building
- Ties in with the town screen stuff. This is also very major to me. I like the sound when you clicked on a building and then saw it slowly appear in the town.

VIP Team doesn't represent all fans
- Tbh can't really say much about this as I have had no idea whatsoever on what has been going on in there. And it obvious that the insiders can not influence even half of all major descisions.

I do not see any worse thing than destroying the feel of the town screens plus the whole town-building aspect of the game because of a totally ridiculous reasons which is an obvious lie.

I am honestly stunned by the reactions to the town screens. It's hilariously over the top. I really wish someone who cared would make a thread about it, though, so it would stop infecting every other thread I read.

But I'm afraid that when we see them, or when the beta starts, it'll be too late to change this kind of thing.

In the Heroes universe you basically have three environments;
- Adventure map
- Battlefield
- Towns

They are basically taking away one of these essential parts. One thing is to change the mechanics within each environment and how they interact, but another thing is to remove the environment completely. Yes, we still have windows that represent our town and so on, but they are reduced to an add-on to the adventure map. You don't actually enter your town, you just interact with a menu that says what's in it.

One of the things a remember best about H3 are the towns, and how they look fully built. I always felt that this was missing in H5. And now they are taking it even further. People complain about the "ranting" over this, but doesn't that just show how much it means for so many? Yes, they have done other major changes that people reacted to, but at least then they gave us logical reasons for it. In this case there is no reason. They are fixing a problem that doesn't exist.

There is obviously a reason that the developers have not spoken loudly of this, or even included screenshots of the screens in their leaked marketing plan,

So you're not going to buy the game, which has a ton of awesome stuff in it (which you already identified as a PRO), b/c of the town screen.

I'll call your bluff and say you're going to get over it lol.
