Actually, Warcraft does get a tons of flames for copying stuff from Warhammer, Starcraft too.
It's just not as noticeable because there's way more Blizzard fanboys than GW fanboys.

StarCraft2 "stole" A LOT of stuff from Warhammer and MassEffect,
BUT inspite of that, it is a Great Game (i personally don't play StarCraft, but have to admit this Fact)
so inspite of similarities it IS WORTH of Playing..
Heroes6 may have similarities as well with Warcraft, Disciples, Diablo or even D&D(which i don't think, but Nightterror obviously does),
BUT IF the final result IS GOOD, IF we get an AWESOME game,
then seriously guys WHO CARES if it is similar to this and that!!!!

I haven't heard this said by anyone else...
H6 having only 5 factions actually gives me hope for a better game, specifically because it seems like they have a lot of goals for this game and they're trying to implement a lot of new ideas. It will take them a lot of time to iron out all the details, it would take them a lot of time even without changing any of the formulas and systems and only adding new content.
Basically, I'm afraid they're spreading themselves thin.
On second thought, I guess I have heard some other people express similar thoughts. I've heard people on this forum on more than one occasion, "quality over quantity." Having only 5 factions gives me a lot of hope.
What makes me really fearful are the crappy names we've gotten. There are plenty that I'm ok with, but some are just horendous and never should have been considered for more than a minute. Maybe the names of the creatures isn't a major reason to be fearful, but it worries me more than the reduced resources or new tier system. This fear is coupled with the lame upgrades. Most of the upgrades are just awful, in the sense that they're anti-climatic, at least in my opinion. When I upgrade a creature, I want it to feel more badass than before, I want to feel like I've achieved something. Most of these upgrades look pretty much the same, the only ones that look exceptionally different are the ones with a lot of armor added.
The only other thing I don't like, although it's so much a fear, just a bit of a disappointment, is seeing less creatures from real mythologies and a lot of made-up ones. This, to me, was never the purpose of HOMM. The first HOMM games didn't make up a single creature. HOMM was always to be able to play/command a great array of fantastic creatures from mythologies across the map.
My hope is that, ultimately, they only add to the depth and interest of the strategy of the game. There's no way to know about this now.
So far there are a few things I don't like (lame creature names, lame creature upgrades) but at least those things give me hope for the smoothness and quality of the game as a whole. Since they're not spending days at this point in the development brainstorming names, and since they didn't have to spend too much time re-doing each creature for their upgrades, they're allowing for me time to implement their new formulas, systems, and ideas.
Overall I can't say whether or not I'm happy or displeased with the development so far because we really don't know that much, but there are certainly reasons to be hopeful and fearful and I'm certainly feeling both hope and fear.

only the first two warcrafts and first starcraft were obvious copies of warhammer stuff. starcraft 2 didn't really copy anything except the first starcraft obviously since it didn't change much in the first place.
and ive heard even some warhammer fans say that warcraft 3 changes the lore and creatures so much already that it can't be called outright copy anymore.
and nobody cares about WoW, that game destroyed everything blizzard had accomplished in WC3 anyway (lore and storylinewise i mean)
now, ON-TOPIC:
it's way too early to truly say ANYTHING critical about the development so far. although i personally like alot of the stuff they have done, i don't want to give anything final on this subject before ive atleast seen the 4th and 5th factions, but preferably more of course.

I do agree with Jackson to an extent; Heroes has always been about, to a large degree, combining existing fantasy creatures and letting players do battle with them.
Heroes VI seems to change this more so than any other installment in the series, but like with all the other changes, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. We won't know if it's a successful or unsuccessful change until we've got the game in our hands.

i'm sure that homm6 will be abandoned by players even faster than homm5 and will have very limited success.
Ubi makes a game for children who play the game few weeks and then switch to another game.
True homm fans:
- play online
- play regularly and often
- have much different game priorities than in single-player mode
Hundreds people play homm3 online each day, however only very few players play homm4 or homm5.

@Lesij: Of course not and for your foot note, I am a boy. I just sick with this Heroes 3 worshiper. I mean yes it is a great game but there is a limit on how much you want to admire the game and open your mind to other new possibilities, I mean we haven't even had a taste on the game and telling the game is a failure now is just ridiculous.
Seeing this Heroes 3 worshiper is like seeing women with iPhone in the eye of people using Android just like this one:

I completely disagree with you. I don't play online, regularly or often, but I consider myself a true fan. I own multiple copies of every game in the series except the original King's Bounty. I've invested hundreds of hours into each game. I don't play online because I don't like playing online against others. I don't have the kind of time to dedicate to it and I do not appreciate getting slaughtered by those who do. As to not playing it regularly and often, with all the games in the world, why would I want to stick to just one or two of a series? I enjoy trying new games. If I did not, I would have never picked up HOMM way back when. Does that make less of a fan? Hardly.

Most people that I know never played Heroes games online.
The part which I loved H3 was hot-seat.You did not need internet to have fun in multiplayer,that made hot seat so special.
It made multiplayer available to everyone with a PC,and without an internet connection.

I cant say I much inspiration from Warcraft at all in HOMM1, if so, very little. Heck even the orcs dont look the same.
ALSO HOMM are inspired by its cousin M&M and parent Kings Bounty, which are again a bit inspired by (and here is were ANY modern fantasy splits part IMO) D&D, D&D which are then inspired by Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion.
I liked Blizzard before but I cant stand anything they make anymore, so full of "loaned" inspiration from other more worthy franchises IMO.
Blizzard have become corrupt. One of the mighty B's are no more. Hang on Bioware and Betshede... And you too Black Hole

To be a true fan you have to play online? I dont think so!
I've played EVERY HoMM and EVERY EXPANSION.
I played H1 and H2 with my aunt, H3 and H5 with my brother and H4 with my uncle.Hotseat forever!
Back on topic: Besides the number of factions my only problem is the creatures that dont appear! Every creature of the series should appear as atleast neutrals. One of the things I liked about H3 was that it didnt give up from any creature before while adding new creatures (LIZARDMAN!) H4 and H5 really gave up from somer creatures.
EDIT: Now that I remenber it was because of Heroes 3 that the strongest haven creature got transformed in a Level 4!
The shining horse is the only way I will see a crusader in the new game.
