As long as I get to be a left handed swordsman with fire or shield in the right hand, I'll be a happy man, oh and also the possibility of werewolves in retail or expansion makes me drool. Skyrim is a must buy anyway.
Oh and dynamic quests, and freaking dragons hunting you + a more polished and advanced radiant A.I... Yup those sure are other goodies I cant wait for

Looks like the combat adopts some elements from Dark Messiah, which I remember to have an awesome combat system. It seems I would love this game, though. I'm kinda glad I get myself a new rig, so I can play PC games again, if only so I can continue playing TES-games.

Combat elements from DM can be a great thing, as long as the combat stays unique to the ES series with some improvements of course.


@Tsar

C'mon what couldnt be more thrilling than getting a huge dragon on your heels, imagine the adrenaline kick. Being hunted by or hunting dragons gotta be ES form for extreme sport

Oh, please, the combat in TES was always pretty boring and very stat-based. If they got it wholesale from DM, I'd call it a huge improvement. DM did it really good, no allowing perpetual blocking and actual delimbing and stuff.

I'm a fan of morrowind for the story and I liked Oblivion (I was very glad for the blocking that made you stagger in Oblivion, it at least gave a feel of responsiveness, however primitive it was,) but the combat could have used touch-ups. Morrowind made up for that with story and atmosphere and Oblivion with pretty visuals and the excellent quests (whodunit, the time syou entire different dimensions and basically all of the quests done on the shivering isles.) Since the atmosphere now seems to be "beowulf" I would like it that they ramped up the combat in order for me to forgive them leaving the outlandish setting entirely (Morrowind was a trip, man).

Kinda agree. I havent said otherwise. The deal is that even with DM improvements they shouldnt purely go for it, you know copyright infrigments and all that. Beteshda could do it in a similar way but with their own touches of uniqeness. Though it seems they have nailed it in Fallout 3 and now, in Skyrim.

*watch as dragon falls helplessly to the ground*

Really hope I can do that hehe...

I bet I'm not the only one thinking of what character I wanna play when I got this game in mah hands...

I'm either gonna go for some kinda Nord ranger... not dual wield though, don't like that... sword and shield is mah game...

If not that I'll make an assassin illusionist... manipulating my enemies into fighting each other from the shadows. Then I show up behind the last guy as he's drenched in the blood of his friends and sink a dagger in his neck.

I'm more concerned about trolling existing in the elder scrolls world, for it's a form of fishing.

And really, I'd play a conjurer that dualwields shields! I'd summon nasty creatures that fight for me while I take a one man turtle formation in the back and shout at people.

It looks like Bethesda still doesn't know how to make correct arrow flight speeds btw.

You know the scene where he shoots the dude in the back in the cavern... takes like 0.5 seconds for the arrow to reach the target from maybe 10 meters away.

Annoying and makes bows feel less powerful. They were a joke in Oblivion without mods (or well, everything was)

Weird how you apparently can't block with 1 handed weapons... even when dual-wielded...

Only way to do it to use 2-handers or shields.

Hope they add some kinda parry move... like timing a strike correctly to deflect an enemy's strike...

It's the conclusion that everyone seems to have come to... no official stuff yet but... yeah...

You have two buttons (think triggers for the consoles) which control your left hand and right hand.

For two-handers you press the right button to attack and the left one to block. For shields it's simple, you press the button for the hand holding the shield to block.

In the case of spells, pressing one of the buttons make your character do a quick spell. Holding it will enhance the spell. If you have the same spell in both hands and hold both buttons, you do a combined effect.

If dual wielding follows the same logic, then there is simply no blocking with them. Holding in both buttons should do a power attack with both buttons. Holding just one of them does a power attack with that hand.

This can be noticed in the gameplay vids as well... the character never blocks when dual wielding or just wielding one weapon with a shield.
