I like requiem, however being instantly killed by even normal bandit arrows can be just slightly frustrating at times, especially since all I hear is "bam" and it instantly brings up the loading screen.
But it's a great mod, takes some getting used to, certainly made the game more fun, but challenging at the same time, but as Ad said, would not recommended to new players.

I use Duel- Combat Realism + Deadly Dragons myself for satisfactory difficulty, + Path of Shadows for stealth enhancement. I love how duel handles stamina usage in battle.
Requiem is a more complete overhaul, I prefer several standalone mods that achieve pretty much the same thing.
Matter of taste.

Aren't Winged Hussars 16th century? It feels so un-Skyrimish. That's almost like having a guy with a flintlock & bayonet.

The armour doesn't look that outrageously out of place, well at least no more than the vanilla content.
As for flint-locks >.>

I'm not sure I'm capable of looking at Hussar armor without automatically associating it with Renaissance Era. Totally would feel awkward in an Elderscrolls game. I know it's a fantasy world and it technically doesn't matter, but it would still bug me

Fair enough I guess, I'm currently using Scout armour. Though, I can't seem to find any sabers or decent cutlasses, I managed to find a high-quality rapier, but alas that won't do.
My current character (I've changed the sword the bow and the arrows in the second pic) My guy is a high elf. (you could say snow elf since I made him so pale, plus he's wearing silver armour)
There was 8 imperial troopers outside this bandit fort, I killed 7 of them and all the bandits, very tactfully. All that to get one-shot by the last imperial who failed to die from my arrow cause I missed his throat and hit his armour. (one of the bandits shortly before I get shot)
.
Edit: There's this incredibly small thing that improved my archery so damn much (I just can't express it), I mentioned it before, it's increasing the range at which arrows are still effective (the range in vanilla is absolutely pathetic)
EDIT:
OMG I just realized that there's no mounted enemies to fight, been looking for a mod to remedy this, but to no avail. I'm trying this

If you like the dark look there's a black retexture of the scout armor available that I used earlier... makes for a great shadow ranger look

Nice pic!
I think I'll make a clone of this guy later.

Enjoying the game very much so far. The game definitely has its own personality and style compared to earlier Elder Scrolls games. I started off intending to create a straight destruction mage, but I've kind of morphed into a stealth mage-archer. I think they really nailed archery in this game.
Anyway, wanted to ask - do you usually go into caves and stuff that you find along the way or do you wait until quests are attached to these various locations? In Morrowind and Oblivion I just went into them un-preempted, but didn't know if there were quests attached to most of these places eventually.

Depending on what I'm doing, if I just wiped a bandit group out and there's a cave I usually go in to clear them all out. On a few occasions I also ventured into dungeons for shortcuts over mountains or rough terrain, yeah, falmer infested **** holes that cost me a few of my close companions.

I think the majority, if not every location, has a quest attached to it in some form or another, although a good portion of them would just be quests for collecting a bounty.

Are there any good mods to overhaul the quest tracking system? There are so many quests under "miscellaneous" and there's almost no information under each entry. Having a little more detail about who gave the quest would be useful.
Also, I like my character build but my archer-mage gets absolutely mauled by the tanks in tight quarters. My destruction magic doesn't take off nearly enough health and I can only get one or two shots in with the bow before they close. Two or three hits with a heavy axe and I'm finished. Any suggestions how to prevail in these situations?

Yeah, there are a number of ways, you should aim to get powerful shot in the archery tree and quickshot that should help greatly, in the mean-time you could try my method of dealing with tanks by making paralysis potions out of imp-stools & cannis roots from the marshes (east of Solitude. there's a tonn of ingredients there)
3 seconds of paralysis at lowest alchemy.

Or he could adjust to conjuration tree and summon meatshields?

Thanks for the good ideas. Maybe changing schools isn't such a bad idea. Destruction and archery are sort of the same thing.

The difference is you can stay in stealth with archery but not with destro so choose based on that.
