I found the trick to beating an amumu is to go Shyvana or Olaf, since they both can shut him down in the jungle, hopefully enough for your team to gain an advantage, cancelling out his eventual lategame.

Another game today: I refined Jungle Xerath, and though he totally doesn't feel like a carry the way I play him, more like a very effective global support. Teamwork beats everything.

About...****ing...TIME! I mean I've been stuck on snowty NA servers for the past 4 years, to be fair I didn't want to actually switch till a few months ago since EU servers were pretty crap too.

I quit dota a good while ago - what I hated about the game was the ever-increasing pressure on team work. Team work my @ss when you get four random strangers with little to no ability to even understand the basics, yet alone communicate. And I really don't have a time to seek clans - they are full of tryhards that keep bragging on how they practice last hitting creeps for 2 hours every day. Uh-huh, I totally get better things to do in my life. Like painting a wall and watching the paint dry...
I liked the "imbalanced" dota of pre 6.6x versions. With Icefrog nerfing the most "overpowered" heroes (i.e. those that could win a match mostly on their own), the game turned into a "equalize everything and make it another boring team work game" to me, Sure, you can still stomp, but you absolutely HAVE to go with a solo mid semi if you want any reliability in this, because otherwise the game might be auto-won or auto-lost before you farm up.
Another issue is that I hate Dota 2 visuals. Some heroes look like retarded muppets. Earthshaker, Furion, Puck - ***** please, Valve.

I've managed to work myself up to Gold II recently, want to try to get to Platinum before the season switch.
I follow the competitive scene from time to time, though mostly the NA brackets. The new teams in LCS this year are looking quite amazing, especially Cloud 9.

I used to be a passive bronze league player, mostly since I never played ranked, and second cause I never really cared. As you can see I fought with tooth an nail to get out of bronze league and making my way steadily toward gold and beyond. (there was a minor setback when I lost 5 games in a row while being wasted)

Luckily, I was never in Bronze, at the start of S3 I got placed in Silver III, and then I had a few weeks where I powergrinded, and skipped directly from Gold IV to Gold II, and now I've been stuck there for a few months, slowly grinding up LP, only to lose it again a few days later.

Got seeded at Gold 5 (My seed was something stupid like 8-2 and I was something like 1350 elo last season and gold in a 5-man team) and then slacked off. Got stomped some. Didn't play until I got dropped to silver 1.

I'm Rank 6 in DotA 2, which is too high for my skill level. The stupid thing about DotA is that it gives you Battle Points even when you lose, so you can lose repeatedly and still go to the next level. Now I lose over half of my games, and those I win are more thanks to my team than to me. I can play a couple of heroes poorly, but if they're taken by another player, my results are worse than bad - something in the 0-12-1 range. I don't like it when whoever I'm laning against denies creeps. Valve really needs to implement a better matchmaking system. I want a bad players only game. (And an English-only game.)

League is free, man, albeit less civilised than DotA from what I heard. 
I tried DotA. Heck, I have fourteen copies I'll never be able to give away. I'm absolutely terrible at it. It feels so sluggish and weird (What am I supposed to do, why do I have to take jungle creeps to the lane?) and it's very hard to see an enemy's "you die now"-move until you've at least been killed by it once. Not to bad-mouth it, though. I suspect it's probably a very skillful and elegant game, but the burden of knowledge is so high, I find it hard to appreciate what's going even after trying for five games and see some guy eloquently comment on a game.

I'm in silver one now, hard carry adc or jungle. :3 Also, I found that sexualizing my team mates further bonds our team, paving the road to total victory.

Dont think it's a good idea to play two roles. Any role can really carry the game, supports have an absurd impact on the game contrary to many peoples preconception. MN best win ratio by far is with lulu 13 games played won 11.
Biggest difference from what I could tell between silver, gold and plat is really just game knowledge. Not neccesarily the whole "I need to ward, cs, objectives are important" but more in the "game sense" sort of way. How to play lanes and how to gank/roam properly etc.
Got placed into silver I after my promo matches never played ranked again till they announced the rewards and powered through to plat V in like 50 games skipping Gold IV and II  . Felt good. Admittingly I had no bad experiences, my teammates where all decently civilized in all of my games.
I'll start laddering again starting october, high plat is realistic enough, diamond maybe my lp gains still heavily outweigh lp loses. For now I'm contend with being in plat.
Also Dagoth is a total slouch he doesn't belong in G5 with the scrubs wtf.

Ploughed through 5 tiers of Silver, and now I'm just crawling toward gold, game knowledge is important, but every season it feels like the entire game has been reinvented. ^^

Not in the slightest. It may change what works in the jungle and what items become pre-relevant (like the black cleaver thing or BotrK) but so far it hasn't significantly changed how map movement works or how you play certain lanes. It might have opend up a few more options in how you play a lane but the fundamentals are the same.
