Homm5 Map Challenge

After several months I completed a challenging timed map that has choose your own adventure and RP elements to top off the strong tactical side of it.  My challenge to you is to see who can first beat the challenging mode of it (there are 2 maps in the zip file:  moderate & challenging).  By all accounts you will need to be knowledgeable and efficient with most factions & abilities

Good luck and enjoy!

You don't get to BE any faction, but you'll have to battle most every faction, as well as optimally utilize the ones you didn't fight.

It was fun game, tough not that difficult. I needed to restart only once, first time on week, 3 barb garr was too hard. But second try on week 4 (which was week of hunters) was good enough.

In fact it was enough to play with sylvan only, since sylvan is the best faction in the game. No res or reg made life hard, but managable with sylvan. Aca, haven or dwarf would suffer lot more.

I had some problems. Timing: I needed to wait approx 2 weeks, before final fight, there was nothing to do. (Navigation skill was lucky choice for me)
Asha: I have revealed all the obelisks, was above the Asha, but dig was not an option.

Maybe on heroic its even more challenging.

At the end I saw that I missed some of the hideout and tricks, cleared only 70% approx.

Besides of that the story is good, map is beautiful, quests are clear and understandable.

Kispagat, I'm glad you enjoyed it.  So you beat the 'challenging' version and had 2 weeks to spare?  Impressive!

hi Mike0D, I have yet to play your map, but I appreciate the work that you and others put in to create them.

right now I am stuck on this german map called "Gantrithor" on maps4heroes

i translated all the scripts i could find in the map to english so i could understand what was going on.

it is quite a good and challenging map. i've lost numerous times and have yet to win.

if someone could tell me what Fafnir's special ability is, why gantrithor is special and how to stop the demon lords, i would appreciate it.

there are a trio of "demon princes" nymus, nebiros and marbas who are extremely powerful. their armies are much bigger than yours, they have dwarven armor that makes them immune to frenzy and blind and have vampirism to counter puppet master. their being 30th lvl also makes it difficult to counter them. and even the lesser heroes are challenging to beat because of their huge armies. there is even a "portal watcher" demon lord played by "the sovereign" who has been modified to take very little damage from attacks. i haven't the slightest clue as to how to beat him.

i do know that there are very powerful hidden characters that i have yet to discover, so that's what i am aiming to do now

WooHoo! I managed to defeat Nymus. the fool traded his dwarven king helmet for a crown of leadership, but he kept his dwarven shield. one of the hidden heroes, Elentari, is a sylvan hero with the same power as anwen. i got her up to 31st lvl and favorited the devils, pit fiends, and horses.

i was really close to losing because he was one tile from catching me and i knew there was no way to beat him outside of the castle. luckily i transferred my army to a chain of heroes who managed to transport them back to the castle. i then fled down to the mana spring because nymus had like 1600 familiars or so, enough to suck away all my magic. there is no town portal allowed in this map, so i attacked a neutral and recruited my hero back in town.

the ensuing battle was frightening to say the least. he had 120 archdevils/demons, 240 pit lords/pit spawn, and  1600 familiars/vermin. this against my army of 47 treants, 16 archangels, 270 arcane archers, 110 high druids, 1030 dryads, and 600 war dancers.

luckily i had the ring of speed and managed to kill 800 familiars or mana might have been an issue. because he traded his dwarven helm i used rain of arrows blind. he always went after me and kept frenzying or puppeting my units. i kept countering with vampirism, but realized my strategy was a losing one because i was always on the defense; plus he basically had unlimited mana because of consume corpse whereas mine was running out.

long story short i attacked his archdevils and warmachines(his ridiculous catapult opened the front gate 1st round! and his ballista was making mincemeat out of my arcanes), then went for the pitspawn, then pit lords then pit lords. if it weren't for my rain of arrows blind i think it would have been over quickly and badly because of gates and the pit lords had like 300 mana!

now i have to deal with nebiros and marbas with a much smaller army,
a prospect i am not looking forward to!

Ebbafan, which map are you writing about?  It doesn't sound like the one I made (Shadow Rising), but it definitely sounds like you had fun!

i finally won!!!

i found a necromancer solveig with like 90 spellpower(her phoenix has 3000hp!) and an army of death knights and thought it was game over for the demons, but it turned out *SPOILER ALERT* that these death knights were not really death knights and even worse solveig dies and vanishes if you send her to the demon realm. (what a paper tiger)

i was close to losing because after defeating nymus, he re-spawns a week or so later with an army twice as big and like double his previous stats and marbas has like 80% magic resistance or something, while nebiros' army is so big you wonder how he can get them through some of the roads.

however i created lvl 3 artifacts for my academy creatures and favorited all of the portalwatcher demon's creatures(he has 4 and with the pendant of mastery you can do this)

LET ME TELL YOU: anwen's avenger combined with level 3 acad arties are a true thing of beauty! i didn't even realize avenger worked with non-sylvan creatures until now. you know you are imba overpowered when even the sovereign with dwarven arties and giant army flees like a coward!

hi mike80D, i'm playing your map now. nice storyline on this one.

had a really nasty scrap with haven, my narxes vs. his vittorio. he had a larger army but i thought my magic/archmagi could take him out. he fought hard and fought to the end. only had 20 gargoyles left but have since recovered.

i like the new dwellings and could have sworn i saw that strange wizard tower before in another map...

Are you playing 'Shadow Rising'?  Where did you come across Vittorio?

hi mike80d i am playing your map now, very good map! just got through the undead garrison.

i'm just happy that i am using vittorio as my right hand man. his triple ballista and first aid tent skills really helped me in the undead garrison battle.

i didn't have cleansing and was using dryads instead of sprites, hoping to heal my treants. then the 19 mummy stack confused my arcane archers luckily i had the first aid skill to dispel this, otherwise the death knights would have flattened my troops.
but because i also had mass slow, this allowed me to win this battle with 0 casualties. i think if i had used the main character, 25% of my army might be dead!

Cool!  Yeah the mummies can be a pain in the neck sometimes.  Good luck achieving all objectives and making alliances along the way!  I'm anxious to hear how the rest of your adventures went.  Keep me posted.

hi mike80D, i finally completed your map. awesome map! i did really well the first time, but really took my time and steamrolled through all of the enemy heroes, losing very few troops and felt that no matter who "shadow nemesis" was he would have gotten his butt kicked. and it would have been true except that i ran out of time and couldn't reach him! (couldn't find the wizard portal back home)

second time i played i was at the other extreme, very fast, but too careless, lost many troops, had only basic avenger and did not fight enemy warlock with vivificus, i had one embarassing restart when i lost most of my army to stalker wyndaal, then lost sandro because i already had 8 heroes when i freed him.

i finished way early, but spent too much time exploring the enemy elves' land, by the time i got home i missed the entire heaven/hell part and never found out where the tear of asha was.

anyway, i sent vittorio, gotai and sandro to fight shadow nemesis and he just obliterated them! i felt that i might have some problems with him because i had basic avenger and failed to get retribution. however i did have stormwind. anyway i managed to beat him by a wide margin

i was thinking if i replayed this scenario i would probably focus on developing my main hero more and concentrating on getting all of the sylvan units and keeping as many of them alive until the end. everything else is just expendable

in any case thanks again for a great and enjoyable map!

Thanks for the update Ebba!  Yeah, your main hero should be developed as much as possible.  The challenge is primarily in going quickly while avoiding big losses.  Getting all 5 crystals + the Naga Temple really helps to reduce the Shadow Nemesis' forces too

Hopefully you get a chance to beat it, especially on challenging, since the ending is pretty cool
