Heroes of Might and Magic: Classic (Third Reboot) [PRE-ALPHA NOW AVAILABLE]

This mod takes elements from each previous game and bring them to Heroes V. Coming from a 14-year experience with the series, my hope is to recreate the feeling in Heroes V like you're playing another faithful entry in the Heroes series.

Some features include:

* Creature redesigns
* Classic Heroes from all previous Heroes games
* Recreations of some of the best Scenarios from every past Heroes game
* New (and rather old) sound effects
* Spell/skill names and some icons and menus redesigned to reflect the previous games
* Building/creature prices and statistics completely overhauled to be closer to classic Heroes games

Faction Roster (beta):

CASTLE:
Peasant (taxpayer), Militia
Archer, Marksman (x2 shot)
Griffin, Royal Griffin (always retaliate)
Squire, Swordsman (x2 strike)
Monk (no range penalty), Zealot (spellcaster, no range penalty)
Cavalier, Champion (jousting)
Angel, Archangel (resurrect ally)

TOWER:
Gremlin (close combat), Master Gremlin
Stone Gargoyle, Obsidian Gargoyle
Stone Golem (%50 magic resistance), Iron Golem (%75 magic resistance)

Genie -> Master Genie (random beneficial spell)
Rakshasa (no enemy retaliation), Rakshasa King (no enemy retaliation)
Giant (immune to mind spells), Titan* (immune to mind spells, no range penalty)

Mummy (curse attack), Royal Mummy (curse attack)
Vampire (no enemy retaliation), Vampire Lord** (life-drain, no enemy retaliation)

Imp, Familiar (mana steal)

* - Lightning effect will be either changed to yellow or removed completely.

[PRE-ALPHA RELEASE - 02/05/2011]

I've decided, as proof-of-concept, to make this pre-alpha available to prove that this mod indeed exists. As it's on its third incarnation, I thought it would be only fair to release something to show for my work. Just know that this is chock-full of bugs, broken mechanics, unfinished textures, some with errors (the back of the elves' head is invisible, for example. Hopefully you can still get some idea of the intent of this mod and appreciate some of the changes I've made so far.

Important note: I've also taken resources from other projects to be used *only* as temporary placeholders for the final result. I hope I do not offend or upset anyone for any appearances of their work.

DOWNLOAD it now, then tell me what ya think!

there are efreets as well as a pegasus, for inferno and preserve.

though, it doesn't look like you are exactly remaking H3, for example, necropolis seems to be a mix of H2 and H3.

I like the skeleton and zombies.

I'll consider Efreet/Pegasus... thanks for the suggestion.


My intent as it's been from the beginning is to bring various features from all the previous games into this mod, plus some other changes that are being made with that goal in mind.

As I mentioned in the first post, I intend to include with the project some maps remade from previous games in the series. It would be great if I could get some help with those, as I'm not the fastest mapper. If anyone has some maps they liked from Heroes I-IV that they'd like to see remade for Heroes V that you feel you can remake, I would love to include it in the mod. Either that, or new maps that follow similar "Classic HoMM" structure.

I'm also looking to bring back the classic Hero movement trail like here?

This seems like an interesting project, keep up the good work! I really like the look of the Giant & Titan, too.

The pre-alpha is now downloadable... please check it out and tell me what you think... and perhaps any suggestions you might have.

Make sure to try it with the default ToE executable, non-NCF. When I first started the mod I messed something in the NCF files for it, and I'm still cleaning up that mess. Subsequent versions will use the NCF executable.

I would, but I don't think it's possible. No way to make the Lizardman, Gorgon, or Serpent Fly. :-/

You might just be able to make a Gorgon from the Orc mount or something, but I don't think it would look much good. Also I think someone had a go at the Fly but I don't remember how they did it.
