Indeed.^^ Thus, in this case, it indeed maybe was a bit much, since I did not ask, WHICH classes, so far, only a number. (Though I liked the approach). ...and now we come to this "which"...

For, now, we shall define the classes names, from the lowest to the highest. If you have definite ideas on special duties or rights of these classes - you may name one.
The classes should not be professions, unless these profession definitely forms their own class in which NOONE else is!!!!

1. Name the lowest class, freely

2. Name the second lowest class, freely

3. Name the second highest class, freely

4. Name the highest class, freely

Second highest-Squire/Knights

Travelling warriors, gallant compatriots, and chivalrous individuals, knights are known everywhere to be the protectors of the weak, and to fight of evil, whatever its source may be. All hail the gallant knights!

...Or so they say.

Few know of knights' true nature; they are brutish, filthy individuals; they do have a code of honor of sorts, which can be summed up in three words, "Follow the emperor". Blindly listening to the emperor's orders, they will do whatever it takes to gain his favor. Deadly swordsmen and warriors, they are also top-class actors, ensuring the few nobles and people of high position know who the emperor's servants really are. Sent on dangerous missions, they are rewarded handsomely for their deeds, and most can count on the emperor to back them should they be in trouble.

Shouldn't squires, or at least knights, be a noble's title? Note that these are those below the nobility. I will accept the title of Squire, however - and the description, if noone objects against it. Note also, that they may be the second highest non-noble class, but they will not be nearly that few individuals as the nobles...

Lowest - Serfs and Invisibles

Serfs are pretty self explanatory. The Invisibles are not officially a class; they are those citizens fallen under the poverty line, living illegally in slums, paying off slumlords however they can in exchange for the slumlords paying off the authorities to look the other way - effectively, they have almost no rights, nor wealth.

Second Lowest-Merchants and Tradesmen

Self-explanatory, really. Although some merchants can get wealthy, it is not considered an "honorable" deed, and so they don't have too much respect in the society; only enough to make sure they don't raise the prices up too much.

Highest: Nobles, Knights and Priests (in that order).

Nobles are generally born into their titles, though sometimes a clerk, merchant or personal servant can amass enough favor or power to join their ranks. In general, Nobles are the tax collectors and the people who run the law enforcement. They answer to kings and priests.

Many nobles also tend to be Knights, who are the enforcers of law, keepers of order and leaders of the King's army. They can also be raised from squires, who are generally the sons of merchants and clerks, though the knights who have gained their rank from being an apprentice stand lower on the social rung than a noble. Generally, they only answer to God and king.

Priests are the upper-level of clergy. They sometimes are considered prophets or sainthood material, and have power only surpassed by the king himself.

@gnomes: Sorry, but I have some issues with yours....first I have to repeat my self:

Quote:
Note that these are those below the nobility.

=> Nobles are not included in this!!!!!!!! they are, definitely, ABOVE these 4 classes, because the question before was "Shall there be more than 1 class below nobility" and vindicators answer was "Yes - 4"

Second. Priest is the Haven Hero class. Not really an argument, just a note. But I would like to determine the status of the Clergy first, before priests are firmly addded into a class.

@bak: sorry for being critical again, but it sounds like you are describing 2 classes. Also, I personally like the idea of those you call invisible being "classless" - which would mean "rightless" as well...would you be fine with that?

New Questions:

1. Shall Craftsmen be considered as "Serfs" or as "Merchants/Tradesmen"?

Serfs
OR
Merchants/Tradesmen
OR
Depends on Which Craft they perform

2. Where is the Clergy?

Besides these classes, they are not included in the normal class system and have their own ranks.
OR
Partly with the Squire Class, partly with the Knight Class
OR
With the Knight Class
OR
WIth the Squire Class
OR
Partly with the Merchant Class, partly with the Squire Class.

Note: I know thesy are not directly considered into the originally classes, but the clergy needs to be somewhere in the system or besides it...

Sure, mate. It's just that I thought of the Invisibles as, effectively, neither higher nor lower than serfs.

1. They're regarded as merchants/tradesmen, meaning free citizens, if they belong to a respective guild or are successful enough in their business to maintain the free citizen standard (which is hard).

ah, fine. as a reminder: fortress is an underground Dwarven faction. Besides Dwarvs you'll find Kobolds, Gargoyles and various more beastish creatures there. The Heroes are Thanes, with the powerfull abilities to either use runes or forge equipment for their troops.
Concerning religion, Dwarves are largely agnostic, meaning they aren't sure if a divine being really exists, nor do they really care.
Dwarves were introduced to religion via other races, and while not
religious per se, dwarves are curiously enough a very superstituous
people and thus felt it nescessary to include "by whatever guides us" and "by the powers that may be (I dunno)" in normal-day conversation, just to "ward off" anything omnipotent or just to wish each other good fortune.

Dwarven priests are "earthly guides" whose jobs are to meddle in other dwarves' affairs.
They have conducted a "morality codex" that contains everything from "which swear-words to use when minors are present", to "personal beard hygiene 101".
They also act as judges within the dwarven juridical system.

So now, for the social values here.

@ Jir: Doh! Well, remove nobles. Knights are below nobles then and still the enforcers of law. Priests would be at a decent level in the clergy, able to channel God's powers to a minor degree, etc, etc. There we go...
