Homm7: war in heaven

this is going to be a quick idea for Homm7, if it took place in a new universe.

gameplay
-4 resources, Gold, Iron, Wood and Crystal
-H6 tiered system of core, elite and champion returns. however
-alignment goes good, neutral or evil and magic, neutral or might-orientated. the magical/might orientated is usually represented in the number of special abilities creatures have and what the racial skill involve.
-4 groups of spells, Benediction, Malefaction, Destruction and Creation.
-8 factions of Haven (humans), Stronghold (orcs), Fortress (Dwarves), Sanctuary (elves), Academy (spirits), Necropolis (undead), Dungeon (dark elves) and Inferno (demons)
-4 mini-factions will also appear, containing 3 core units and 1 elite. these will include Halflings, Trolls, Lizardmen and Leokin. they may be conquered in game and will provide additional resources for the heroes town, as well as unique skills that can only be found in the town walls.

Lore:

"in the beginning, there were two gods, the wholesome Almotha and the twisted Darqwon. Almotha's light shone throughout the sky, touching the darkness and lifting it, to reveal beauty and grace of the world, giving everything in it life and freedom. Darqwon hated that, for he was there before, and had everything under his rule until Almotha's light came. He hid away in his dark corners until the time was right to strike again."
"Methuselah," moaned Prince Charles of the holy empire, "I've heard this story a hundred times, I find it boring..."
Sir Methuselah rolled his eyes, he hadn't wanted to fight through seven wars, and be crippled in the last one, in order to cater to a spoilt prince.
"your Highness, your father has instructed me to give you a proper education in warfare, magicks AND the religious creeds of our glorious empire."
Prince Charles groaned.
"Anyway," continued Methuselah, "as I was saying..."
***
"the goddess saw the creatures that dwelt upon the earth, and knew that they needed guidance. Under the Unspeakable's dark rule, the races of Humans, Dwarves, Elves and even Orcs had fought one another like animals..."
a trickle of laughter erupted from the audience, and Susalochi, performer in the Phoenix court, pressed on, striking the pose of the Jian-co-phal, the comic turned praise.
"The Goddess created entities for the races to worship in her stead. For us the avatar of rebirth and creation, the Pheonix Dragon Qwey-lung, who watches over our elven lands with kindness and assurance. For the humans, she created the Voice, the mystical force of light and purity, made of a thousand creatures, all thinking as one..."
***
"For the dwarves, the Timeless one Almotha created the artisan god, the Clockwork Lord, that measures and creates with accuracy unrivaled."
"not as accurately as you, dear," said Jorla, as she kissed her husband Vanst on the cheek. Vanst blushed a furious crimson.
"Gerroff, you," he smiled, "do you want this armour finished for you or not?"
"Sorry, Vanst," Jorla smiled, sitting on a nearby bench whilst her blacksmith husband continued to work, "Continue, please."
"and for the orcs," Vanst continued, "she created Shavash, the god of destruction and war. For the land of spirits, she created for them removeable bodies, under the watchful eye of their lords, the sphinx wizards..."
***
"under the guidances of these entities, our nations have grown strong and prosperous," the Guru Kalifa said in her chanting "and it seems we have forgotten about Him..."
"spare me your witterings, witch," growled Warmaster Pikal Skycleaver, "your doomsaying is not holding the barbarians and demons from our borders."
"but do you not see," cried Kalifa, grabbing hold of the warmasters robes, "He is behind it! the sundering of the Elves, the retreat of the spirit world, the creation of the kingdom of bones, and even the arrival of those demons all foretell of His coming!"
***
the Council of Warlocks looked at the individual sitting opposite them with unease. He was not Dark elven, but nor was he like any other creature they have ever seen before. Such a convincing voice, and with a tongue as sharp as a daggerwhip and he spoke with such reverence, that even the jaded Casad of the Bitter Viper cult listened to his word. there was nothing wholesome or right about the man that called himself "Kayn".
"so...what are you saying," said Lasnowus of the Shattered Eye cult eagerly.
"Gentlemen," said Kayn, and his voice was like the sound of art itself, "I'm merely offering you a choice. For my master is coming, and he will reward those who serve him. so you can either be enslaved unto his will, or you can become heralds in his new church, the priests of pain and spite."
"And why should I not kill you and disect your corpse to see how you tick?" queered Vikula of the Cobra Blade cult. suddenly she doubled up, letting out a terrified scream. the warlocks looked on in abject horror and eager excitment.
"because, my dear Vikula," Kayn said, "I can inflict more suffering on you than the entire Darkelven underempire will ever do in it's existence." He released Vikula, who was left gasping and shuddering. "You are all clever, oportunistic and cruel, my friends, and those qualities is what my master desires, along with his own creations might and the immortal magic of the necromancers. This is not a question of winning a war, for he offers willing conversion into his religion, and does not come with conscription. He offers you a chance to make the world your play thing, to shape continents on a whim, to stitch monsters and peasants and gods together, to create a world where your dark desires are to run rampant again, and again, and again until the world drowns in blood and the sun is extinguished in screams. My friends, join him, for there is a war in heaven, and Evil has already won."

Haven

Aka: the holy empire
Worship: Almotha and the Voice
hero: Knight
alignment: good neutral

campaign characters

Prince Charles
young, hot-headed and impulsive, Charles is the sovereign heir to the throne of the empire and demands respect from his army. He is inexperienced in the ways of command and is easily intimidated by responsibilities.

Sir Methuselah
a grizzled veteran of many wars to help forge the empire, Methuselah is the young princes tutor and guardian. wise, and far too patient for his own good, Methuselah provides the emotional resting point for Charles as he watches the prince grow up into a fine young man.

Lady Catherine
betrothed to Charles, Catherine is a girl all to eager to grow up and have the prince. joyful and friendly, whilst she is an irritation to Charles, she is actually a more competent leader than him and more than capable of inspiring confidence in her men.

Creatures

Core
Crossbowman -> Widowmakers
Recruited from a number or realms within the empire, the crossbowmen form the ranged core of the infantry. Armed with the traditional crossbow, their job is to rain shafts down on their enemies with the fury of their god. The Widowmakers are the more experienced members of the corps, capable of shooting twice the amount of shots to make their enemies fall and their loved ones to weep.

Defender -> Sentinels
The Defenders holy duty is the defence of the people and the faith of the imperial throne and the imperial church. Drawn from the sacred basilicas and cathedrals, these warrior monks, armed with enormous shields and spears, defend the empire at any cost. The unspeaking, humourless sentinels take this one step further, and are under a special spell to defend holy ground till the last.

Galants -> Crusaders
The Galants of the empire are the dashing and fearless nobles, charming to the ladies, not so charming to each other. Following a strict, and often confrontational, code of honour, the Galants are expert duellists with their two-handed swords, happy marching into battle, knowing that they shall come back to nights of passion. Crusaders are the older, more experienced members of the class, having been ordained with specially blessed swords to dash the souls of the unclean from this realm.

Elite
Griffon errant -> Griffon knight
The Griffons are rare and territorial beasts, incredibly dangerous and highly suspicious of humans. Rarely, however, a griffon can respect a few humans, often either raised of cared for by those who have lost loved ones during wars. Griffon errant are the unofficial flying attack force of the empire, made up of strong hearted women upon even stronger steeds. The griffon knights are those deemed worthy by the king to knight, giving them access to much needed armour and weaponry.

Cavalier -> Paladin
The powerful Cavaliers ride into battle, heroic members of noble houses of the empire, poised to do battle with their enemies, atop powerful white chargers, clad in personal coats of arms, wielding bone-crushing lances. Paladins are specially chosen by the theocrats, carrying lances forged in holy fires and riding stallions bred of the finest stock, bound to the spirit of the empire itself and carrying an almost god given healing ability.

Inquisitor -> Blessed Inquisitor.
The imperial church is not a pacifistic affair, and even the higher ecclesiasts must still prove their metal on the battlefield. The Inquisitors stride into battle, forming holy glyphs from sacred texts whilst muttering purging hymns, smiting the enemy dead even before they can taste the steel of their hammers. The blessed inquisitors, having taken a special ritual where they bath in the tears of martyrs, are able to summon cherubs into battle, the tiny holy mites serving their masters well.

champion
Angel -> Archangel
sometimes children go missing within the empire. most of the time they get lost in the woods, never to return, and others are spirited away by demons and witches. However, some are found in an old abandoned church, their bodies transformed and their eyes opened, dancing lights surrounding them, with glorious golden-white wings hoisting them into the sky. They become the gracious protectors of their families, homes and their kingdom, some even being ordained as Saints within the empire. The Eldest of these children are scarcely human, but living embodiments of their powerful deity, able to absolve and smite enemies with a thought.

Sanctuary
aka: the elven lands
worship: Qwan-long

a actor in the Phoenix court, Susalochi is not a warrior by any stretch of the imagination. he's intelligent, cunning and friendly, but also abhors violence and would much rather not have to fight in the oncoming war.

Fortress
aka: the dwarven holds
worship: the clockwork lord
hero: runepriest
alignment: good might

Campaign characters

Stronghold
aka: the Orc kingdoms

alignment: neutral magic

Dungeon
Aka: the Dark elves
Worship: Qwan-long and Darqwon
hero: Warlock
alignment: evil neutral

Campaign Characters

Casad
Casad is a bitter and jaded warlock. having lived for far too long and fought enemies far too often, he is wary of everything. cynical and often times vicious in his address, he embodies the very worst of pessimism. naturally, he doesn't hold to anything that Kayn says.

creatures

Core
Tormentor -> Excruitator
The Tormentors form the dark elven core of the dungeon army. To become a Tormentor, a dark elf must spend 50 years of study in the art of causing pain, where they are put through every conceivable form of torture, until they become ecstatic with pain and the infliction there of. Excruitators are often the ones doing the “Educating” and are armed with the Daggerwhips to lacerate their enemies from afar.

Gargoyle -> grotesque
Gargoyles are evil-smelling, hideous creatures, created by the dark-elven warlocks from particularly strong captives. Through painful surgery, wings are grafted to the victims body, their faces and limps are imbued with fangs and claws, and their skin is “Charmed” with gnarly hardness. Grotesques are the Gargoyles who have survived for many battles, often to the extreme detriment of their looks and sanity, flying into combat with poisoned claws and deadly fangs.

Minotaur slave -> Minotaur guard
Minotaurs form the bulk of the Dark elven army. Once a peaceful, noble race, the minotaurs were brought low by the magic of the elven invaders, and forced into gladiatorial combat and menial service for their amusement. The Minotaur Guards, after much hardship, are those who have killed ten score of their own kind, and are battle-hardened individuals, often pumped full of adrenaline before battle.

Elite

Mandrake -> pure shadow
Mandrakes are Dark elves whose desire for power meant they handed themselves over to the Warlocks themselves. Never a wise move, but these Dark elves often have nothing to lose. Transformed into terrifying creatures of pure night, the mandrakes strike from the darkness, sowing fear into enemy ranks with ease and skill. The Pure shadows are strange creatures, able to fight not with swords, but with darkness itself, with some whispering that they are actually the soldiers of Darkqwon himself.

Abomination -> Warped Abomination
Abominations are created by those of exceptional flesh-crafting prowess. Barely alive screaming behemoths with multiple mouths and untold stitches, they waddle into the battle-field, too scared of their warlock creators to disobey, running in, hoping to die on their enemies blades before they wipe another army out.  Warped Abominations are those who have been especially created to explode on death in a shower of offal and encased spells.

Mistress of anguish -> Siren of screams
Concubines and maidens of warlocks, the Mistresses are often blessed with a chance to peek into the Warlocks tomes of magic. Dancing into combat, the mistresses unleash wave after wave of spells, cackling with glee as their enemies are turned into ash, screaming. Sirens have this style of magic almost down to an excellence, drawing enemy mana with a song before blasting it back again with a giggle.

Champion

Chimera-> Chimera Prime
The Chimera’s are the twisted pinnacle of the warlocks mad experimentation, a hulking Behemoth, a hellish mixture of Lion, Black dragon, dark-elf and who knows what else. The Chimera flies into battle, gleefully scorching its enemies whilst shrugging off even the most powerful of spells. The Chimera prime are even worse, as they can somehow call to the rejected flesh-craft creations, the troglodytes, and bring them into battle enmasse.

Lasnowus

Inferno
aka: the demons
Worship: Darqwon
hero: Justifier
alignment: evil might

Campaign Characters

Kayn

Kayn, the persauder. Kayn, the justifier. Kayn, Demonspawn. Kayn, Wickedtongue. Kayn, the prophet of Darkness. Kayn, the reverend of the church of Darqwon. Kayn, herald of evil incarnate. Kayn, bearer of the bible of blood. Kayn, messenger of the new lord of heaven. Kayn, the ender of struggle. Kayn...

hope people enjoy this.

if dwarves are academy does that mean theres no magic dependant faction like wizards? cuz dwarves arent too fond of magic.

the idea is that the elves would take that role as a more magic dependent faction. the reason why I put the dwarves as the academy is that they basically build golems, machines and such like.

I dunno, I'm not particularly fond of games where religion is 100% truth. I don't think anything can beat the enigma of the timeless Ancients. Better than ZOMG, DRAGONS though.
But hey, the writing is top notch
Oh, and Dialogue boxes > Cutscenes

I'm kind of partial to cutscenes (well acted ones, mind), because, well, certainly the meeting between the warlocks and Kayn would be alot more dramatic acted rather than spoken.

Quite true, enigma easily results in interesting plot. No need to be necessarily the Ancients, even though they served their purpose pretty well. I still have a grain of hope that Asha and Urgash will turn to be cousins of the Dragon Pharaoh but this is highly unlikely.
