I agree with Nightterror, small subtle changes that the fans can get behind and care about, giving the fans that kind of descision making power would hardly cause any serious damage, so considering (a suitably large number) of fan's thoughts and opinions on such matters would likely be worth doing if only for the sake of PR.
BUT, FANS ARE NOT GAME DESIGNERS and you should not blindly go along with what the fan-base wants because in the end, they are not the only people who might buy the product, there are potential new customers to cater to as well and relying purely on a dedicated fanbase will sink the franchise.
I'm not saying the "Designer is always right" either because that is just as wrong, the truth lies in the middle and both parties have the potential to be just as wrong or just as right about what is important and what should change.
Because both parties are in the end just human.
Now to get back to the topic:
