Well , I suppose it depends on my mood. But I`m big fan of defense , so I prefer to play whit towns like Fortress and Rampart. But there is no town that I can`t play or dislike , there are heroes that I worship and that I "despise"

for me it is castle because this town has many nice troops ; archangels with ressu, champions with their HP and speed, zealots with great "no melee penalty", crusaders with double attack, griffins with unlimited counterattack and marksmen, they are excellent shooters... Only halberdies is OK but they are not weak because of their high HP

no one town will beat castle army with its own army, I think

Tower and then comes Dungeon. Tower ... because of the creatures in there ... they are excellent for my strategy - everyone has its place ... and ... well ... the TITANS. They are really good ... And when playing with the Tower or the Dungeon there is always some sort of nostalgia for the days which I cannot turn back. I just remember the first time when I played that game and I see in my memories my brother who tells sme all he knows about the Titans. And then I see my best friend and I playing h3 ... she playes Dungeon, I play Tower ... it always makes me smile.

Maybe the best thing in H3 (the best one for me) is that it is easy to enjoy many town types.

I just think that Castle has something definitely wrong, as the pre-reqs for Portal of Glory are just too few!

I am actually building a map for all 8 factions, in which one of them can have access to the ninth town type (conflux).

My order of preference, for whatever reason:

1. Tower (just love Titans range attack);
2. Fortress (the best contribution to H series - and the music!)
3. Rampart - too beautiful and powerful.
4. Necropolis - can't NOT love those terrifying undead (btw, vamp lords r awesome).
5. Castle + Dungeon (both great combo of range, flying and marching troops) - and heroes!
6. Stronghold - love them, just love the others more. But he music is one of the best!
7. Conflux - beautiful, good music and i like elemental stuff.
8. Inferno - Those Devils appear to be wearing cracker-jack clothes... and Effreeti are theior best troops.

Gotta say, when I first came to this site a week or 2 ago and decided to take a more in depth look at the game and what race I want to prioritize things changed.

Origionally I wanted to play Stronghold / Fort / Tower, those were my favourites. Since taking the game a bit more seriously I'm having the most fun with Dungeon.

In order of preference:

1)Dungeon - Black Dragons, Minotaur Kings, Gunner, Beholders (movement sounds <3). Best race ever!
2)Rampart - Gold Dragons, Grand Elves, income! Great race, no flaws imo.
3)Tower - Titans, Naga Queens, awesome race but dislike unit / building costs.
4)Fortress - Chaos Hydra, Mighty Gorgons, nice units to play with.
5)Stronghold - Ancient Behemoths, Cyclops Kings, Thunder Birds, again great units. A little lack luster in time...
6)Castle - Love the Arch Angels and Crusaders, dislike that it's branded as overpowered and overplayed.
7)Necro - Black Knights and Vampire Lords are cool. Dislike overall playstyle.
8)Conflux - Although I don't dislike them, nothing really appeals to me.
9)Inferno - Efreet Sultans and Pit Fiends are cool, otherwise I'm a Christian so I can't fly the enemies banner! And yes I know it's ironic since Dungeon is my favourite and they aren't exactly the good guys but we're just greedy. I'm greedy with standards, so I'll just pwn Inferno and steal their loot. =)

Necropolis was always my favorite in H3. But I didn't have a particular favorite town in the other games.
Just liked the look and feel of it and I didn't get as sick of starting with it as much as the other towns.
Also it always seemed to me that with the shroud of darkness, the computer seemed to leave those castles alone more so.
However when the computer has the shroud of darkness I find it annoying; try to take those towns.

Stronghold, Rampart, and Necropolis are my favorites. Of course it's hard to pick just one, but I voted Stronghold because it's the only one of those that aren't grouped with other ones. =/

The only one I don't really like is the Inferno. Actually, I don't really like the Castle either, but I just don't enjoy playing as the Castle because it's the most human and so, for me, the most boring. I respect the Castle as an important and well-established part of the game, whereas I just don't really like the Inferno at all.

Favorite Town

I almost always use the Inferno against the CPU. I love the overall concept and theme of the Town, the Heroes and the Creatures. Although, arguably, some creatures are weaker than their level, it's nothing a few spell boosts from a Demoniac or Heretic (who's very balanced) can't cure.

Plus, I love the whole hellish look of the town and that town music, that wicked town music...

That's pretty cool Kushinada-hime. You see, my farvorite town is also inferno, but that also goes for battles against other players.

I really like the inferno because all its creatures have a purpose, unlike many other towns where you'll see many of the lower level units completely loose its purpose later in the game.

I also like that inferno is somewhat weaker than other towns, unless played right, because that means that even when battling players a lot worse than me, the battle will still be interesting and we both have a good chance of winning, meaning there's no feeling of being completely overpowered and thereby loose interest in the game.

Now about each creature, level 1-3 are demon fodderes, but that's still an important purpose in my opinion.

Demons are the main force, the hard hitting tanking unit, because they come in such a high number that even the mighty necropolis can be challenged under the right circumstances.
Demons are like the soldiers, they're simple, no special abilities, not really that strong, but they come in high high numbers.

I just love the theme of the pit lords, and likewise in the game, they're the infernos personal necromancer unit. They're still pretty good for battle, but only an average level 5 in stats, however their ability to create an army of demons give them a great purpose.

Now there's the efreet sultan, not only are they
1) The fastest non level 7 unit together with dragon flies
2) The strongest level 6 units in a waited splitted battle
3) Very easy to buy fast and can quickly clear the map
4) The third best armageddon troop in the game, but much easier to get than the other ones
They're also a flier which is very important that you main units are in castle battle.
Because the Inferno in principle only have 3 main units they throw into battle, Archdevils, Efreeti sultans and Horned demons, it means that with a single teleport you can quickly have your entire army inside the opponent town.
Also, since they're immune to fire and since Archdevils are faster than any Foretess creatures it means that in all battles, if starting with blind, Inferno will act first! Because, if waiting, the opponent can blind the Archdevils and you can blind their level 7 stack (for foretress they level 3) and in return you'll be the one acting first in battle.

Finally, the most awesome, the archdevil, of course you don't want to be hit by archangels, however did you know that in 100vs100 battles, Archdevils does come out as the second strongest, only after Archangels? True many of the other monsters aren't as fragile and have generally better stats, but inferno have something with their creatures that many take for granded, speed! Also the no-retal means that archdevils can win situations not many other creatures in the game would be able to.

Also, they're not very hard to get, one of the easiest monster to buy in week 1, which means you'll often have more archdevils than the opponent have archangels (not taking conservatories into account).

When I play inferno my tactic is very simple, I go for efreet sultans and archdevils quickly, getting a few heroes that can start wiping out the monsters around me. Week 2 I go for maximize the amount of demons through diplomacy and turning them via pit lords. Finally as I advance I try to see if I can get armaggeddon so I can use efreeti sultans in Nx7 splitted stacks to make optimal scout wars (I also try to see if I can get phoenix to replace efreeti sultan).
Then to prepare for the main battle, I search for some simply, yet easy achieveable artifacts in most games, likewise I do from the start of the game search for some specific heroes, hoping for an advantage later in the game through those guys.

Often I do wait as long as I can before engaging my opponent, I really dislike the idea of rushing, it makes the world of heroes seem very small, it means I do go into teleporters, gates to the overworld, etc., but I press space to return immediatly, so I now have this specific area under my watch, so I can see if someone is approaching. With inferno, and the tight underground passages, it also seems easier to meet late and it gives the sense of 'good' vs. 'evil' as most people I used to play with prefered castle.

I don't dislike any towns, but if I had to mention some, then castle, dungeon and rampart, but that's because they can be a pain to build if the map is not on your side. The funny thing, if you do splitted waited 100vs100 battles, the top 4 looks like this:
1) Archangel
2) Archdevil
3) Gold Dragon
4) Black Dragon

Gold drags are higher, because one unit takes the retal for the 99 units.
And funny enough both AA's, GD's and BD's are from towns where the level 7 unit is rather hard to get, which speaks as an even higher advantage for the inferno in my opinion.

Finally, someone who shares the same views with me.

I love how you regarded each unit in the Inferno as useful, honestly, Inferno dudes don't get much of that, especially the Imps/Familiars. I noticed that whenever I play against an Averagely Skilled AI, his Magic hero (or even Might) always uses Lightning Bolt, Ice Bolt or Frost Ring on my units. Now, he always targets my Pit Lords/Fiends. It's safe to say that weekly growth for Pit Fiends/Lords can hardly be called enough, so in just like 3 turns of consecutive "Ice Bolt"s, a whole stack of Pit Lords is completely wiped out, which is a shame as much as it is a great loss. The same goes for my Gogs and Magogs too. And since those two are the only shooters in the Inferno, having them wiped out would really shoot holes at my victory. I could use "Anti-Magic" if I wasn't too busy increasing the defenses and offenses of Cerberi, Horned Demons and Pit Fiend/Lords with Stoneskin, Shield and Bless and Bloodlust, respectively. Later, I figured though, that by having Familiars in the battle, the CPU targets them all the time and never seems to touch my more 'important' units anymore. They do this until their MP is completely run out. Let's say Adelaide's MP is around 30 (3 knowledge), she does around 3 Ice Bolts and 1 Magic Arrow. That's devastating if you're just in the early-mid game and only have 9 Pit Lords. The trick is, I have around 147 Imps and once the CPU starts showering them with spells, I go for the advance, with my Hell Hounds crushing through the battlefield, the Pit Lords next and the Demons and Imps protecting the more fragile Magogs. It's a cool strategy.

The Mana Channeling ability is just an added bonus. Hey, +1 Mana for four rounds gets you a free Magic Arrow at Expert Earth Magic.

All hail the Imps' meaningful existence.
