Music Altering?

This isn't WoG-related per se, but it does involve modding, so I'll just go with it here.

What is the best way of going about changing the music for Heroes III? I know you rename the files and place the MP3 in the Mp3 folder and so forth, but it occurs to me that there is a major discrepancy regarding the encoding. I tried saving them with the native Heroes III MP3 encoding, but it either sounded choppy or sounded really static-y sounding and slow.

As far as i know vbr or cbr mp3 dont matter , just make sure the mp3 is stripped from all taginformation.

It's also about bitrate from what I remember... 128Kb/s is the best option I guess.

But I'm not really sure.

Is there something special that needs to be done to alter the sound spells make? I tried replacing the death cloud sound with my own, changing it to .82m and put in the data folder, but nothing changed...

You need to make alterations to the "Heroes3.snd" file in the /Data folder. I'd advise making a backup, of course.

Anyway, about the music. I've tried just about everything... the best results I've gotten are my file sounding choppy and distorted. But I know there's a way, because I've seen it done.

I use Audacity for encoding sound tracks and it has all imaginable options to get them proper. Kegolo, possibly you did not rename your 82m file to the right one. If the same file is placed in data, it will always replace the one from lod.

What must I change in Audiocity to make the music work? Bits is already 128 and I have deleted all the tags but it still sound like from another world.

Hmmm something weird must be going on then. I've taken a sound, named it psycshot.82m and it worked fine. I rename it other things like deathcld or default and it doesn't work. Are you sure ALL sounds can be replaced this way. Or better, is there a way to add sounds to Heroes3.snd through a .wog file?
