Stronghold 3

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the game but for me it's one of the better medieval strategies. The first two Strongholds that is - Stronghold (1) and Stronghold Crusader which is basically a huge expansion pack which qualifies for a new game to an extent - I haven't played Stronghold 2. I'll assume that the game is not immensely popular and make a short summary.

This is a real-time strategy with rather strong economic element, fairly realistic interpretation of the medieval warfare (for a game of course) centered mainly around castle building and respectively castle sieges, all of which is spiced up with some humour. The story of the first game - as far as I remember it (been a while) revolves around the son of some recently killed noble who has to stand against his father's murderers who on the other hand don't particularly like the fact that the brat is alive. The four antagonists - The Rat, The Snake, The Pig and The Wolf - each have individuality and are memorable characters (for instance The Rat is a moronic, cowardly backstabber who understands the concept of economy and war as much as a swine understands the concept of personal hygiene and is one of the main sources of humour in the game while The Wolf is a dark noble who can certainly handle well both his lands and his army and as such plays the "boss" figure). Most units serve some purpose (except the spearmen which become obsolete at one point) to the end and are made quite well + sound-screened very well - the Crosbowman is hilarious, the Swordsman can rally even YOU to combat, the Engineer sounds like... well, he just sounds competent, like someone who knows what his engines do. Add the voices of the peasants and the narrator and excellent music and the atmosphere is complete. In short - very addictive game.

Anyway, the thing is that the third game of the series is comming soon - end of September - and will include ye olde Wolf who got resurrected somehow and the sons of The Rat, The Snake and The Pig as main antagonists. Firefly Studios (cool people by the way, never really disappointed me) promise even more realistic medieval warfare, night battles, improved castle building and castle razing and of course the trademark humour. The graphics are hardly glamorous but that's not very important in this case. I for one am looking forward to it.
