Map Editor

There was a manual with the HoMM5 editor and I can't locate one for the HoMM6 editor yet.

I realize it's only the first day, but has anyone found it yet? I completed the first two campaigns and then played a couple of maps against the AI and so far I am loving it, but with games like this and its previous versions I like to build my own maps.

Any helpful pointers toward a manual or a map site would be most welcome!

Thanks,

Mal

Also sorry to say there is no map editor documentation yet, but I have been using it for a while, so for the moment I suppose you can ask me if you need troubleshooting.

Well there aren't any fan maps yet. The game is just out. But hopefully we can generate a pool in a few weeks.

First question

How do I tilt the map so I can look at it from above as opposed to looking at it from the side or ground view. I find it hard to create looking along the ground.

Same here. I'll just repost what I said over on Ubi's forums.

This may be the most confusing editor to date in the Heroes series.

I honestly have no idea what any of this stuff does or how to move things around. How do you check the properties of an object once it's placed on the map? I'm putting towns down, but have no idea how to go in them to specify which buildings are pre-built and what not.

This is what they call user friendly? The H5 map editor was a piece of garbage, yet I understood most of that at first glance. Here, I am completely lost.

It definitely takes more than a few weeks of getting used to, that's for sure. I'll see if I can make some basic tutorials this weekend.

As for your troubles with the camera, try hitting the C key. You might be stuck in the "game camera" mode - pressing this key should free the camera up.

I did that of course, but it only has the game manual in it not the editor manual.

Cepheus,

I have another question. I've figured out quite a bit with the map editor now and can make a basic map with different levels of ground as well as placing buildings, units, etc.

I was able to unlock the camera as per your suggestion and that's good, except I cannot seem to be able to "go to" a location or an area of the map. In other words I can only zoom in and zoom out. I can't find how to move around the map to, let's say, work on the right lower corner for example. Or the upper left corner. Normally you move around an editor by using the arrow keys to pan around the map, then use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out of the area you want.

That doesn't work with this editor. I can zoom in or out of the middle and if I am making a bigger map I can't even see the corners.

Have you found a way to maneuver around the map yet?

Thanks in advance,

Mal

Thanks! I'll try that!

Edit: That is the most awkward way to move the map imaginable. And for me it doesn't always work well.

Having some difficulty figuring out how to make the map work correctly. When I start a "skirmish" (maps that came w/ the game) it takes you to a screen where you can select difficulty, color, town type, etc. etc.
When I make a "scenario" and try to play it the game skips this screen altogether and just throws me into the game after asking me which dynasty item I want to use. Went to map properties and played around w/ that a little w/ no luck. Feel like I'm missing something obvious

Cheers

Cepheus - I'm sure you've been busy playing and learning the new HoMM6 ins and outs as well as messing around with the map editor.

If you get time to post a few basics for people to make a functional map it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mal

Actually I still haven't been able to buy Heroes VI yet, I'm afraid. They take their sweet time to put new games on shelves over here.

OK, so the Quick Start Guide is now online. Be warned that it is by no means to be considered a full manual to this thing, just something to give you the basics and the controls. More to come.
