Heroes 5.5 - Eternal Essence - Battle-Replays

If you are using Q's new A.I. and have a fine battle...save it...and share it.

Supply a little info to set us up.

Here are 2 from "Power of Dragons" They are from the same game-session. I am playing as Sinitar.

The first is my first run-in with Wyngaal.

1st meeting

The second is a soon to follow rematch

Rematch

This is a "close-call" when I was using a secondary Hero to take a town.

Crazytrees

Edit=

Here's what should have been named crazytrees instead. This is from fulano's map "Allanon's Alcove". It's not against a Hero but I thought it merits a view anyway. I can't give any details because the map is brand-new.

Here are two battle replays of my own. I was testing the latest My Home Is My Castle version with 3.1i to verify that the AI opponents present a challenge on hard with the cheats removed. This worked out, the opponents put up a fight, while I had trimmed my hero in best veteran style with tremendous artifacts and visiting a large amount of stat boosters. I also played with the shroud lifted so that I was fully aware what the AI was up to. Given that and that I knew the map, together a big advantage, the AI performance is satisfying.

The first battle replay is against Academy. It's mainly decided by spell points. This makes a very good case why Heroes V deserves the title of Might and Magic. H6 has still to earn it.

The AI had the Ring of Caution equipped (-1 speed). We need to rid the AI of this behaviour, but there are so many things that technically need addressing, that it will most likely happen with the full overhaul of the combat AI and the magic system (switching to Eternal Essence).

Once the battle is decided, the drill starts and you can skip to the end. This is only for those who do not know the drill.

replay no. 1

The second battle save is the final battle. Win or loose. Spell points matter here as well. Artifacts are important. My forces had strong initiative but so had the opponent, the effects cancelling each other out. The speed penalty does not come from the Ring of Caution (what one might think) but from my forces benefiting from the Cloak of Death. Lots of powerful artifacts are in play, but ultimately it's decided by the spells. The Dungeon hero with more spell points (the right artifacts!) would be a formidable opponent indeed.

replay no. 2

Again a testament to Might and Magic. There is of course pro and contra for covering the entire battle field with fire.

If someone wants to try the battle for himself/herself the save is here (requires our reference map My Home Is My Castle):

before battle no. 2

Enjoyed the replays Q. And I watched the "drill" (like golf, watching is a lot more boring than doing <L> over a bite to eat and was thrown for a second. Near the end 13 Dragons hit that last stack of 3 grimlins and 2 die. With a mouthful I'm thinking...what was that? Looking at the log, the dragons had luck to boot. Then I saw "last stand". Good to see A.I. Heroes with that stuff too now.

Come to think of it, I played against some powerful Necros w/ raise dead but I don't recall any A.I.-Hero in a resurrection battle with me. Have you had this battle yet?

@Markkur, bit bored in your second replay there?
out of interesting or special perks, last stand & power of speed/mass haste are the ones I see most in AI (even in normal TotE), unfortunately don't really see that much else like power of endurance, mass weakness/suffering, triple flaming ballista

@Quantomas: empowered arma affecting war machines?...there is even more potential in your work!

Nah, it's a new multi-tasking that I'm currently perfecting.
"Extreme-micro-data-collection-munching." Takes a brave soul to wander this terrian alone.

Speaking of brave souls...where's the replays?, ol' warrior of high reknown.

I am going to have to start playing again to have any... and of course they will not measure-up

no need for that high reknown thingy, I"m just a slow player
your crazytrees was funny & does 'measure up' as do the other replays posted here

still playin' your huge map Power of Dragons, it has a nice hook/story background & the ambience at the tavern is very nice

Liked some of the funny messages in there & was initially wondering why the heck you put some of the monsters like in this replay here:
CreepersJeepers

I only battled it as a 'whatif' just for fun... but the end result astounded me.

Anyway, I continued (without that whatif battle) and I managed to trap enemy hero thru use of boots of swift journey & boots of open road...
he could have taken back one of his castles & sit in town & wait for me to attack him OR

It was a GOOD calculation by AI.

Awesome Primus well be viewing soon. I've been down with a nasty bug that has more wicked clutchy fingers than Naadir

Glad you're enjoying Power of Dragons. I must admit; it is not totally about "battle". I spent loads of time just trying to make a great adventure world where it's not just a tree here and a stone there.

Since you are playing it then I'll tell you a follow-up is nearly done. It's called PoD (DarkWorld). I contine the story like this:

The Knights and Wizards required enough effort from both Elvin factions to be rid of them that the Power of Dragons remained "unclaimed".

Wyngaal and Sinitar fail at making peace once more at the Shady Elf Tavern. During this time the green world has furthered withered. Now the easy resources are mostly gone and mills are burning.

To complicate this new map, Inferno and Necros have moved in and both are capable of becoming as strong as either Elf faction. The only good thing is they are not allied

Also many things that were easy to take in the first version will be harder this time because "Armies of various sorts" defend mines etc.

The first version was made in such a way that anyone could appreciate Q's wonderful A.I.work and have some fun.

Dark world is about fighting at the next level. What's fun for me is; with the steady enhancements of H5.5... I have no clear idea what to expect with everything ramped-up. Yessss!

Make it great and TY for all efforts

@ Primus

I put the cyclops there only because I thought they made the perfect boot-makers

Watched your replays.

I am glad you fought that battle against the Cyclops and I am'd too. I never would have attacked them thinking it would be a serious waste of troops but you made it look easy. Come to think on it, my son attacked the large group of angels guarding the Angel Wings on Dread Realms and said it wasn't too hard.

What struck me (far more) from our combined-replays; is how important the battle-map truly is; whether its clear or as in this case "full of rocks". That is exactly what made chopping down all those trees (in my save) much easier. Cast slow, block the gaps and let the luck and morale fire from the large masses of shooters.

I wish there was a way to reload those saves but w/o the obstacles to see the difference. I am going to have to revise my thoughts about large Hero-less armies.

One odd thing, there should have been 750 shoemakers but there were 699? I don't get that.

This thread is forked, i.e. continued, here: Battle replays

My reply is there as well.

I think we should have some fun at www.eternal-essence.com as well.
