No random ATB patch!

Hello!

Just wanted to let everyone know I found a way to set the per-stack initial ATB random maximum value to zero, instead of 0.25.

Not sure if someone already did this, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

The patch can be found here:
Zero ATB Patch

The patch is made for ToTE version 3.1 and modifies the H5_Game.exe.
Use it at your own risk, and if you don't trust it, feel free to scan it at virustotal.com or whatever.

Please, back up your original H5_Game.exe before doing this.


For those of you that want to do it manually, the patch changes a float constant from 0000803Eh (0.25 decimal) to 00000000h (0 decimal) at file offset 6734F7h. You can therefore manually set it to any other value, too.

indeed, great patch. unfortunately not many people play anymore so probably not many people will get to test it.

too bad this wasn't available like half a year ago

So this would explain why a non-upgraded mage neutral, will often start before my upgraded? Correct

I've wondered what was causing that.

Great job dude, btw what will happen now if 2 units have the same initiative ? They still start random or its like in homm 3 ?

As far as I know, they will be randomly ordered, but the order can change in the next turn.

Making it identical to Heroes 3 would require inserting some serious code in the .exe, which I'm not capable of doing.

Great Idea, but doesnt work. In multiplayer combat you get sync problems which results in both players seeing the sandwatch. Would be nice if someone could remove this random element.

I just tried out a multiplayer combat (duel mode) with a friend, and everything worked out fine. No sync errors or sandwatch.

Both players need to have the patch, obviously.

Is it possible to do this patch for the AI mod too, possibly in a fassion that it tries to detect a pattern in any TotE exe to patch it ?

I'm not sure how this AI mod functions, but it would surely be possible to find and modify the same value I mentioned.

I'm not likely to do it, though.

Well, I don't prefer modding gameplay at all, but this random bullcrap was just too annoying.

I don't have any trouble with AI because I play exclusively multiplayer. OK - there's still creeping but I don't care about the AI.

Update: Now, the unlikely thing happened. I updated the patch to match a local pattern so now it should be compatible even with modified ToTE exe's.

NO ATB patch

anyone else got trouble with 0.2 errors in multiplayer while using this? and can someone make the manual overwrite of float constant more clear? most importantly where is this constant located? tyvm
I can easily scout .pak files but still canīt find them
