Poll Question:
Werewolf in Dungeon???

I would LOVE to see Werewolves in H6 Dungeon
i just think they fit perfectly to the new darker Dungeon concept

and i think its a big loss not having this creature in HoMM universe..

I'd say that a feral creature like the Werewolf would belong out on its own, in forests and swamps. Not underground. You know, more along the lines of the Deciples werewolves, who were hire-able creatures for the Death faction.

well i would like more an idea of kind of "cursed" dark elves..
add some story behind (not the usual ashan "failed wizards experiment)
but something deeper..
i think that would spice up the whole dungeon line-up

I don't think they fit into the dark elven theme and aesthetic at all.

I could see them in Stronghold or Fortress though.

Depends on what you see as werewolf. A werewolf, I see more as shapeshifting only at (or at least only around) Full moon...which makes 'em quite useless as unit...however, if you take these modern, ever-shifting lycanthropes, they fit in many towns...Dungeon, Necropolis (if it's switched a bit), alternate dark factions, but also stronghold and Sylvan, imo. An dneutral...well, you can make anything neutral...

I would agree with this. Werewolves are cool, but they're a bit problematic. I'm not a big fan of the 'modern werewolves' as described above. So for me, werewolves should either only shift at nights with a full or a new moon, or they should be stuck permanently in wolf-form. The permanent werewolves could fit into many towns, but I think Dungeon is a bit far-fetched, Necropolis or Stronghold being a better choice.

My difficulty of combining Dungeon and Werewolves has nothing to do with it being underground.
I think it would fit Necropolis well, if Necropolis were a bit reimagined and not purely undead. And was a more dark,neo-gothic, oldfashioned horror type faction with still a majority of undead things.
I think it would fit Stronghold because there is a strong link between Barbarians/Orc and Wolves of any description.
The problem I have with Werewolves and Dungeon is that I don't see particular connection between Werewolves, Dark-Elves, Warlocks, Minotaurs and the highly sofisticated evil of Dungeon.

Which connection, and why is that bad?

...btw, I agree on the different necropolis. I'm gonna try a less "only-undead"-style in the necropolis I'm planning to add to my HoMM7 proposal (or better, to it's first expansion), though werewolves will not be in (they'd fit better, and mroe or less allready are into the 'Keep' there, a faction of various dark and evil beings.)

EDIT: Just popped into my mind: I think werewolves (permanent ones) would wonderfully fit into a Dungeon based on the H2 Dungeon, maybe with some line-up like this (just aone-minute brainstorm!!!)

CORE:
Gargoyle (Flyer)
Centaur (Ranged)
Werewolf (Offensive Walker)
ELITE:
Griffin (Flyer)
Minotaur (Defensive/Versatile Walker)
Hydra (Versatile Walker)
CHAMPION:
Dragon (Flyer)

The faction keeps the H2-Dungeon idea of having "Hybrid" and, most importantly mythological creatures. It also has the gloomy style in wich a werewolf would fit. It does not lack sentient beings, if you consider, Centaurs and Minotaurs, maybe also Werewolves and in a farer sense also dragons as sentient. It would be good-bye dark elves, which may not be the worst...

Ah, ok, now it makes sense...I see the connection in the dark ways, as well as in that these were not chosen freely by those races.

Thus remaking Dungeon into the dark/evil counterpart of Academy again. Not a great fan of that to be honest.
As I often have said, I agree with and prefer the Racial fundament Ubisoft attempted to introduce in their reimagining of the HoMM Setting. (Though their succes in those regards are debatable) And not the grouping of semi-random mythological creature around a central theme.

Whatever one might want to do with Werewolves, it needs to be explained by their background IMHO. Werewolves make that difficult, since they are hardly a race on their own, which makes the need for a plausible and acceptable background greater. And the more far-fetched or forced that background is, the less acceptable Werewolves are.

argh a whole post lost becaus eof - no reason?! Strange O.o

What I wrote one minute ago...I can second the second paragraph. The first one...it depends on taste. The point is...faction backgrounds become more and more important. Who asked for a truly well-thought-out faction background back in H2 times. It was more about fittingness. However, that would not be accepted in htese days. Factions need somehting that connects them, and races are one of the easier ways, since they are connected by the main race then^^ however that can lead to borin gfacitons. Also, the finding harmony contest (yeah, it's been a while since then) showed that even seemingly hard-to-fit creatures could be fit into factions which still gave the feeling of a whole that was...well, whole, belonging together..

if you look per faction (concidering new ashan plot of HoMM)

werewolves in..

Haven - NO WAY

Stronghold - i personally wouldnt like it at all.. i dont see them alongside with the orcs

Necropolis - the current concept of necropolis doesnt fit much, to be honest.. also Vampires and Werewolves in one faction.. hmmm

Inferno - werewolves are not demons! so no!

Sanctuary - that would be a joke! no!

Sylvan - Can be! but i would prefer Leshyj , a caster/shapeshifter, rather than werewolf

Academy - i dont think they fit here, even though mages created hell loads of creatures already.. but enough,.. serously, enough of "playthings"

Fortress - dwarfs and werewolves???... rrrright.. forget about it

Dungeon - i am still leaning towards Werewolves in Dungeon.. race is created by darkness/ faceless.. i think a good background story would fit Werewolves better in dungeon then even minotaurs or hydras..!!

Orcs are no half-demons either...and half-demons would fit good for werwolves imo, especially considering centaurs being half-demonic as well in Ashan, afaik. Thus, stronghold would quite fit imo.

I personally am leaning to Stronghold or Sylvan with this one. Dungeon has more finesse than to use so many units with brute strength; they already have their minotaurs for that one. The orcs, however, seem to be much akin to werewolves; both despised by humans, both not fully human, both strong and ferocious... In Sylvan you would want to capitalize more on their bestiality, that they are one with the forest, guardians of the sacred groves, etc. I can't really see them in Necropolis, at least not the current one. There seems to be no "living" units in their ranks, and werewolves, even if cursed, are still "alive".

This is one of the reasons I'm so disappointed with the H6 units
The guy who wrote the fluff is terrible,
it's like he's trying so hard to make everything sound epic.

So Ubisoft shouldn't have any problems turning the werewolf into a wizard-made creation,
thus validating its existence as a HoMM creature.

In Heroes VI, I would agree with you. However, if one goes further along the timeline of Ashan to "post-TotE"/DMoMM that would be a different case. Seeing how Necromancers there are more than willing to use living mercenaries(Black Guard) in their ranks.

Dark Elves are not "failed wizards experiment" in the Ashan history. They are the Elves banned from Irollan by Arniel due to Tuidhana's rebellious standing. And they get their powers when she takes Faceless' offer and pleads faith in Malassa.

Although they seem suitable for Dungeon, I wouldn't prefer it, don't know why. But it would be cool to have them as Champion neutrals. With 8 speed and 55 initiative
