Even though the Dungeon is the underground faction it doesn't have to include only underground creatures.

I mean,ok dragon and Minotaur may make sense,since dragons live in caves and minotaurs in labyrinths,but Hydras?Dark elves?Even the faceless don't look like they are an underground species...

Also the werewolf does make sense,I mean the Dungeon is the darkness faction,which fits pretty well with night-active creatures like the werewolf.

Not to forget,that the dark elves do have slaves in heroes,so they could easily say,that the werewolves are slaves that were transformed into werewolves against their will.

Yeah, but on theme you could also fit them in Necropolis, or even, potentially Stronghold.

Because that was too revolutionary even for NWC/3DO.

in Ashan it would not make sense since they fled into Ygg-Chall for some reason and were re-enslaved by the delfs

Minotaurs have it even worse than the orcs. They're like the Kurds of Ashan.

Yeah, but the orcs fled as well, and the centaurs, and the latter ended up with the orcs.

But they didn't flee into caves of blood-thirsty, war mongering, heartless, dominion-minded and nearly ageless beings who live in the darkness that forced them into slavery. Once conquered, the poor Minotaurs were forced to "Participate" in blood rituals and wars to make sure that they remained slaves forever...

The Orcs instead fled to an island, where eventually they were conquered by addle-minded humans in the name of Elrath and told to work on mines/ farm the pretty fields. Pretty big difference.

Hydras traditionally (in Greek Mythology) only lived in caves, deep earthen caverns, pits, etc, comming out only when a God or awakened Titan commanded them to. Therefore, the H5 version is actually more accurate to the mythology than the 1-4... and it fits an underground faction.

Dark elves: See, every RPG made in the last 40 years (and no, WOW does not count).

Faceless are unique to Ashan, but from the description that they were given it appears that they live wherever there is absolute darkness. The most concentrated place to find this is underground.

Food for thought.

When the orcs fled, the wizards created the beastmen to replace them, of which both them, except that both centaurs and harpies are also beastmen, which begs the question of why the minotaurs didn't end up with the elves as well.

But they aren't and those factions are already in the game,so we can say already that the werewolf won't be part of those line-ups.

Also I think,that they would still be better as sylvan or dungeon creatures.
Becuase Necro is an undead faction and werewolfs are not undead.
Also I can't really see them as a part of the stronghold,especially not with the aztec theme :/

@gnomes:
The Hydra lived in a lair,that is right,but the lair it lived in was in a swamp,near the lake lerna.
But even though I understand your point,it is at least partially justified

I am amazed that no one has referenced the King's Bounty Werewolves. They are Elves who can turn into Wolves. Regular Wolves were in the elf faction in Heroes IV. The Werewolf goes in the Sylvan army.

Other units that want to be in there include:
* Elves with Bows
* Druids
* Unicorns
* Treants / Dendroids

Other possible (that is, units that have appeared in one or more previous games and can't be ruled out) units that could go in there include:

* White Tigers
* Pegasus Riders
* Fairies/ Sprites / Pixies
* Gnomes

Now, it is of course trivially easy to simply cobble together seven Sylvan units from previous games and call it a day. That would be foolish for a number of reasons. For one thing, there aren't any factions in Heroes VI that don't have at least one new unit. And secondly, because the storyline of Heroes VI is set before the Dark Elves get kicked out of the Sylvan kingdom. So you need at least one "Dark Elf Themed" unit in the Sylvan town for Heroes VI. And finally, because "nature" is a huge theme that can include almost any mythological monster as long as it comes from "the wilderness" (which is nearly all of them).

So you're going to want something like:

Core
* Hunters
* Werewolves
* Sprites

Elite
* Druids
* Unicorns
* Assassins

Champions
* Treants

Where the Werewolves and Assassins are nominally Malassa servants, and then when you choose Tears or Blood for your hero, you go Light Elf or Dark Elf respectively.

The elves didn't embrace Malassa at all until Tuidhana, so there wouldn't be any dark units in the line-up.

Actually, that has already happened. The specific place in the timeline is after some of the Elves have turned to darkness in order to kick humans out of their lands and before a demon spy manages to get the Dark Elves banished on pain of death. So Heroes VI is set before there are any Dark elves in the Dungeon as well as before there aren't Dark Elves in the Sylvan town.

The ending of the game (spoiler)...
....

....

....
Has a Dark Elf whining to the Faceless about how the other Elves are being mean to him.
....

Now, it's totally possible for Ubisoft to simply screw up their time line and make a Dark Elf Encrusted Dungeon or something, but assuming that we go with the dates they gave us with their Ashan timeline, the Dark Elves leaving the Sylvan faction should be the end of the expansion storyline.

No, Tuidhana chose to declare independence because the king decided the process was too de-centralized. Then the humans decided to attack her, and the elves waited a bit before helping. When they were killing each other and destroying Tuidhana's land, she then turned to the dark side (), allying herself with Malassa.

But Heroes VI takes place AFTER the War of the Bitter Ashes and BEFORE the Day of the Tears of Fire. So Dark Elves exist and have not been banished. That is the time point it is at.

But the dark elves aren't integrated with the normal ones except for in Tuidhana's kingdom, but the Sylvan line-up should be most of Irollan, not just the dark elves.
