Reading this, I am finding something curious.
For all claims of Ubisoft's: capitalistic short-termism, over-bureaucratizing and/or pure maliciousness, I wonder what makes people think that other publishers will behave in any way differently?

Because Ubisoft's DRM is the worst in the industry. There is no other major publisher that would actually tell people that they couldn't play their single player games on their home computers for perhaps days at a time while they migrated their servers. Not one. Even EA wouldn't pull that crap.

Yes, EA would release Dungeon Keeper 2 that was riddled with crash bugs on release and then never fix them all. That is a thing they would do. But they would never remotely shut off everyone's home games while they worked on a problem on their own servers.

One thing I never understood about the designe choice about the townscreans is, that thay chosed not to put them in the game to save time but put in a conversion animation, that has exactly the same impact but is generaly less wanted or needed.

The problem wasn't time but money. Creating a town screen, or a "proper" town screen, costs a lot. The 3D screens made for Heroes V were horribly expensive in terms of design, and since the money was scarce to start with, the town screens had to go. Another similar decision was the lack of 3D models for each artifact in the game. It lowers the costs of producing the game.

I'd say that the vast majority of the Heroes players would settle with low-detail, eventually 2D adventure map with highly detailed, interactive and well-animated town screens than with what we currently have but of course Ubisoft never bothered asking. The cost of the town screens can't possibly be higher than the cost of the adventure map.

This is also the only Heroes game to date to feature recycled units (if you don't count the elementals from Heroes 2 and, well, upgrades).

It kinda makes me feel sorry for Black Hole and some of the more dedicated people within Ubisoft.

Maybe, if given enough time and money, they could've been able to create a working product without sacrificing some of the more crucial elements in the Heroes franchise...

What upsets me most about this is that when I think about how the thing was described from the development team before release, and then look at what the game actually was on release, there is a huge discrepancy. And I don't think the developers were trying to sell a lie when they praised the game (they made themselves) to the skies, I simply think they were so blinded by their own vision that they didn't bother to ask others about their oppinion, and when they did (like the insider forum), they mostly chose to disregard what people said when it went against their oppinion. The whole post-release line of events seem to be summed up by a huge 'we told you so', and that really pisses me off.

Sorry, what do you mean? This is not a proper sentence, at least not in English. Heroes IV was released long ago...

OK, a question to everyone: do you actually want Heroes VII given the series' development since Heroes IV? And if yes - why?

If things keep going this way for the series, absolutely not: I'd rather see it dead and buried right here with this disastrous sixth chapter.
On the contrary, if they decide to give up ALL the crap of Heroes VI and start again from scratch with a brand new Heroes game that deserves the name, then yes, of course!

And this comment is coming from a guy who pre-ordered H6: the worst spent money in my whole gaming history, seriously, even the ultra-buggy vanilla H5 was more enjoyable than this joke.

I don't blame eastern studios at all. I blame cheap eastern studios.

There's a nuance.
Do you blame bad Western studios too for bad games?

As for "bad eastern studios", try playing some of the games released by China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. They are super low budget with minimal enjoyment value (I played them).

Yes! Heroes 5 had for me the best game design of the series - even for all the flaws that it had. If they do with Heroes 7 what they did with Heroes 5 - namely ignore the previous chapter, and make a polished and expanded version of the one before that - I would be excited.

H5's design

No it did not. I respectfully disagree. The adventure map was soooo annoying. Keep 3D for shooters, not for TBS!
