Cheating! Why do people have to cheat?

Cheating!  Why do people have to cheat?

I am not just refering to the heroes issues, but to the wider picture and this can be anything in particular.

Eg sitting exams, pursuing sports (seriously like the olympics or just playing for fun), or in a  business enviroment, even playing games like on the computer or on a playing board like monoply etc.

I can't understand why people would go to such lengths to achieve this goal.  I know its harder to try and achieve that goal like getting a pass in exam or winning a sports medal.  But that is what is makes it worthwhile.

It may not sound like good advice, but that is the challenge in itself, to push ourselves to become better and to gain more knowledge as well as a better understanding.

In the end is makes ourselves feel pround to achieve this.
This business of trying to cheat to achieve that goal is madness, because in the end it can end up in a right mess.
It discourages persons from pursuing their goal because someone will come along and and bypass all the hard work to achieve the goal.

As for the cheaters they end up with a bad reputation.  To some they dont care and will start all over again and again.
Why do they do it?  Do they feel inferior to eveyone else?  Are they just bad losers?  Do they feel proud at cheat others?
Why oh why?

Even in computer games i never use the cheat codes because then the challenge is lost as the game becomes dull and boring.  Using codes to give yourselves unlimited lives or unlimited firepower or even x number of troops to win is pointless.

There are also the help solution side for a game as well.  I would say that this is still classed as cheating IF the players automatically uses it without even trying to achieve the goal on their own.

I know i am not the best player in the world when it come to completing games.  But i will try to achieve that goal as many times as i can endure before seeking help, not buy the game and then look up the solution.  There is no fun in that and to me that is a waste of money.

Even in sports like badmintion which I take for fun even though I am competitive (after all it is human nature to win), but i hate it when people try to cheat just to win.  It makes me angry and gives the game a bad name.

Even the people who try and find out if there is any cheating going on in whatever activiy is being run.  It ends up wasting their time, money and resources just to keep the situation from getting a bad name.  With cheating going on, it gives any activity like sports or playing with people a bad reputation and can do far more harm and damage to them.

Well, in a game like HOMM3, I cheated to first get through the storyline, and then explore the options of the game, because I don't have the time to sit down and actually play the game. However, I would never cheat against someone else in a multiplayer game, and never in a real-life situation like a test.

With monopoly (strictly with close friends and family, at least mine) house rules are if you aren't caught within a set number of turns, too bad. Outside of monopoly I hate cheating. The real world cheaters are stupid. They are too lazy to get up off their ass and study for a test, so they cheat.

I guess in my case it's not cheating, because the players have set rules allowing cheating. We have penalties for getting caught too. It's fun to watch my brother screw himself over.

LOOL!  turns out there is much truth to this statement ... not for our ToH Emperors, but throughout history, particularly in the Roman Empire.

Many "cheaters" would try to dethrone the emperor and steal the throne.  Some did and became crappy emperors, and others were executed.
Of course, these "cheaters" are also known as villains and bad guys.

Examples of these cheaters:
- John, the brother of Richard the Lionheart (Robin Hood)
- Commodus Caesar in the movie Gladiator (fiction??)
- Crassius in Sparticus
and my favorite,
- Archibald Gryphonheart who stole the throne from his brother Roland (HoMM2 Succession Wars)

Cheating occurs when a person puts so much emphasis on success that losing would result in immense pain for them.

I can always spot a cheater in heroes without playing them because they are always so caught up in points.

I am not saying someone seeking to achieve a high rank is a cheater but someone who cares about it just a lil too much.

I always avoid them then 2-6 months later you see they have been caught.

And then a week after that they are back in toh =)

Anyone who would cheat to excel at a stupid computer game has really got their priorities messed up and I truly pity them.

this explains really well on WHY the cheater cheats and outlines his motives, but of course, not all ambitious players are cheaters.  The cheaters are usually those who care more about points than rules of the game, ToH rules, fairness, honor, etc.

lol, and yes Mocara I do care about my points.

Thats cool Wiggy.

I go through phases like that as well.

In December I was caring about it a lot.

Ran my rank up to 1597 w/a goal of 2000 and then got burned out.

Nothing wrong with caring about points but I think it's a shallow pursuit.

Then you would say something like "Sorry I can't play right now." when an 1100 ask you to play and you are 1600.

There is obviously something wrong with that, right?

It's truth - most of us get pissed off, when they recognize, they played (and lost) to a cheater. No one likes to lose time.

In real life you would probably catch such a person and explain him in that or other way your point of view.

But the internet most of us are annonymus and there is nearly no possiblity to punish.

But a cheater doesn't cheat and lie only while playing an online game. He will do it also in reality. I used to say (and not only me) that the truth always comes to the daylight.

So he will pay for his lies (cheats). And the price will be high. Because it won't be in virtuall reality. It will be real. Real pain...

That's why I don't get mad about all this cheaters&stuff.

Cheating

I agree Grythandril about cheaters.  I prefer to play the game the conventional way.  Using my head.  Unfortunately the ones that cheat are the ones that lack the mental capabilities to play without the cheats.

Zonekill I disagree with you a lil bit.

In the business world such cheating is normally rewarded.

Ethics is a fast track to poverty while stabbing people in the back is a quick way to the top.

However if a man gain the whole world and lose his soul what has he truly?

To me money and power in this world are all a great illusion and the real goal is being true to those you care for.

So yes you are right. The cheater cheats himself.

People cheat to get what they have not earned, so laziness is part of it.  Funny thing is, I have seen people put more effort into cheating than would be needed to succeed honestly.  Doesn't really mean they aren't lazy tho, some lazy people make more work for themselves all the time.
Another reason people cheat is to gain respect.  This too can backfire, as in some cases (many times in TOH) success is more likely to bring thoughts of cheating than thoughts of admiration.
As far as cheating in games, sometimes it is fun to use them as a "what if" scenario, but all of my use of cheat codes in, for example, Heroes series, has been to learn how the game works better, or for mapmaking.
Hints, now this is a funny one, I am all for them in some cases (adventure type games) as they can help you get past a part that you may never get otherwise.  However, it is hard to keep trying things once you know where the hints are, so you tend to lose most of the fun of the game.
Just my thoughts

100% agreed
and yes, someday I'll inwardly realize the shallowness of points.  Right now I'm a bit point-greedy.  Maybe next season.  LOL!

People cheat because they dont believe to their skills.... cheaters are fools... they cheat in a computer game to receive virtual ranks and to calm their weakness in a real world.... in a serious tournement , they lie to their opponents to backstab them in first opportunity... they have no mercy... all they want is to see their names and fakenames on top players.... they dont have the philo that the first reason to play online is to meet new people from different cultures and to learn something new and to have fun... i pity them... they missed lot of fun.
