If you say, Light & Fire, you are resigned to accept "double occupancy": after all, Necro is already missing Light & fire, right?
So are you comfortable with Dungeon having access to the same schools than Necropolis?

Quote: In 6, however, they have gone out of their way to present all factions in quite a characteristic way. For the Dungeon, there is so much mentioning of Shadows and moving in them and Dark and absence of Light and Truth - their simply shouldn't be anything clearly and truly visible stuff there, only shadowy forms with deeper shadows in them.
And how do you suppose that would work? A strategy game must be legible in the first place. Lore is only there to make an overall feeling, but sometimes it's hard to bring a text into a game. If they wouldn't give a distinctive color like purple for Dungeon it would look very similar to Necropolis (without green). Well, it's not the first time an element of the game is not consistent with the lore. A writer thinks one thing, a graphic thinks the other. If you have another vision of how Dark Elves should work that's ok, but I'm fine with the devs vision of Dungeon in Heroes 6 (to be clear, that's not my ideal vision of how Dark Elves should look like, but I accept Heroes 6 vision for what it is).
Quote: So all that pinkish light is just plain dumb. Darkish purple for accents, and beyond that only shades of grey and black.
The rocks are blueish and grayish, purple comes from elements like crystals and portals and from the glow they create on those rocks. I don't think it's too purple-ish. Gray, blue and black are the dominant colors, but the nature of the color purple is that it stands out. Besides, Heroes franchise had always been a bit kitschy (please, Beholders: eyeballs with tentacles looking like Martians from the 60s?) and I'm okay with a little of dumbness here and there .

Air is the most likely excluded element after light. Controlling air or lightning is of little importance in narrow caves that traps the otherwise free roaming wind. The only reason to use air is to piss of Sylanna but it was not her, but her followers who betrayed the dark elves.
Fire should be available because some dark elves flirt with demons and fire would be very useful as a light and heat source in otherwise dark and cold caves. Only reason against fire would be that their dwarven enemies are worshippers of Arkath.
Water could also be available as the caves are cold and controlling ice and water in narrow caves could prove very destructive. It also seems possible that the surface might be snow covered.
I also hope that Faceless got a large weakness towards light while dark elves got a small light weakness due to being corrupted by darkness. Manticores and minotaurs should have no elemental weakness and black dragons should be 100% immune to light and maybe even absorb it.

Hear, hear.
Blob, am I speaking Chinese or what?
The Dungeon is staged in DARK caverns, but their town(screen) looks like the Capitol at night: Thousands of spotlights shine at it and paint everything in a pinkish (not purplish) light. The only purpose light has in a Dark Elven environment would be, however, to produce SHADOW, so there should only be INDIRECT sources of light: you'd see a pinkish SHIMMER BEHIND a structure, that would actually paint the structure in shadows, hollows being darker shadows, and accents of darkblue, dark purple, dark violet and dark lilac (that's a fitting color scheme).
But direct pinkish (or light purple) LIGHT? Nonsense.

MOAR DARKNESS!!! I agree on that the town should be MUCH darker and that the purple lights should be dim and not illuminating the whole freaking cave city. You can not strike from the shadows if there are no shadows. Elrath himself would be blinded in that city but maybe the lights are the true city defence. The dungeon creatures probably have poor eyesight and do not need the light while enemies are blinded. Anyway, the purple lights should act as guiding lights in the darkness like neon lights. Not as previously mentioned, illuminate the whole freaking cave city.

Other than the apparent purple cheesiness I don't really care. All I wanted was a nicely designed dungeon city and the lore can take the backseat as far as I'm concerned. Ideally the town should adhere to lore and common sense but I find it lovely otherwise.

Elvin, "lovely" shouldn't be a word associated with a Dark Elven Dungeon town, right? Shouldn't there be words like "forbidding" come to mind? "Menacing"?

Ok, I'll try a different tack. I have no idea whether the building names are already known, but I count three times the word "shadow" in a building name, we also find words like "unseen", "secret", "whisper", and so on.
Now, where on that townscreen do you see something
a) shadowy
b) unseen
c) secret?
Does that make sense? I mean, would you find Haven town "lovely" if it was shown at sunset, big part of town lying in shadow, dull colours? Necropolis is much darker looking, and even Inferno ... Now, this is just a well-lit cavern, everything clearly visible. No shadows, no secrets, nothing unseen, no whispers. Malassa is just not there.
Lovely? Yeah, for a dollhouse, maybe. But a Dark Elven Dungeon?

No you are not speaking Chinese nor am I. You presented your point of view, I presented mine. You think Dungeon is too purple-ish, I think it looks ok, and that's that. No need for being stingy, as I'm not attacking your point of view in any way, I'm just saying how it looks from my point of view
Different points of view is what makes us unique as human beings (or so they say)...

It seems, I do speak Chinese after all. Because it's NOT too purplish. There is just a wealth of direct LIGHT, purplish, pink or otherwise, that has no business to be there in the first place, other then showing off something that should be "engulfed in shadowy secret" or whatever Malassa is trafficking in. Looks more like Elrath conquerend the darn thing and got some spotlights installed right away.
