Andor's End (ooc)

Andors end is a small village said to be built on the sight of the largest battle ever.  It was built as a buffer for the five great powers of the world known as Tianis.  Tianis has one huge continent, and a dozen 'recorded' islands (there may be more out there, but only twelve found so far).  Of course, it is not known if any other major continents are out there either, as the technology to travel that far in ships has not yet been created (the kingdoms have explored three months via ship in all directions from the farther recorded islands, but any more and the people on board will starve).

The five 'great powers' are the humans, the dwarves, the high elves, the wood elves, and a believed to be extinct race called the Karag.  The humans share their kingdom with the unobtrusive halflings.

The smallest of the kingdoms (at this time), the humans capital is High Cliff, so named for its king Cliff Dumont, as it does not sit on a cliff. The human kingdom is to the north east of Andor's End.

The largest surface area is owned by the Wood Elves, who's home is in the Winterbite's Forest.  It is larger then the human and High Elf kingdoms combined.

The largest area over all belongs to the dwarves, who's kingdom is mostly underground..and encroaches on all the other kingdoms..

While their land is not large in size, the High Elves Kingdom, and especially their capitol of Phage, is envied by all.  They also have a few floating cities that just about anybody would love to get ahold of.

Which leaves the Karag's kingdom..now a lifeless and barren desert, do to the High Elves bringing their floating cities..with their most powerful mages, and lade waste to everything.  A stark reminder that they do not have the numbers the other races have, but they have powerful mages, the most powerful in the land.

Characters can be any race..except the Karag.  They are FIRST LEVEL, meaning just beginning.  No magic items, not the most powerful in the land, etc.  Just a warning, any power gaming will be dealt with swiftly here.  This is a dungeon crawl..and is designed for low level characters.

Standard equipment (Stuff you do not need to worry about buying).
Food, Spell components (if they are needed..however these are special components so any gems are worthless if you try to sell them), rope, torch (if needed), backpack, basic armor (nothing above chain), basic weapons, basic ammo for bows/crossbows, tent (if needed), bed roll (if needed), shield (if needed).  Note again, if you do not need an item, and try to 'sell' anything you do not need..it falls apart in your hands BEFORE anybody buys it.  I do this to make things easier, not make the characters rich .  Anything needing replaced/refilled/etc are automatically handled as soon as you get into a town..with a few exceptions (ie if the town is destroyed, over run, etc).  For free.  However, if lost or damaged outside of town..you are on your own until you reach a town

You do start with 200gp beside the basic equipment. Most things are not that expensive, so make me a list and send it to me, I'll tell you if there is anything you can not afford.  (Like full plate). Note that if you want better armor then chain, the cost of the chain (75gp) is subtracted from the better armor cost..but of course you lose the chain.

Magic is rare and valuable, very valuable, very costly.  Mages learn spells automatically, but items are a different story.  A simple +1 dagger can run 1500g. And no, you get no family heirloom magic items.

The races you can be are above..and here are the classes.

Paladin, Mage, Thief, Warrior, Ranger, Druid, Cleric, monk (however monks start with zero gold..they live a very sparse life).  You can multiclass keeping in mind that you will level much slower then a single class..monks and paladins can not multiclass.  There are other classes available, but they can be earned only during the adventure.  Tomorrow I will post the atmosphere of Andor's End and it's layout.

Do we have ability scores and feats, in true original D&D style?

Not likely. Most of the time, stats of that sort are left out of the game.

It bogs down the game to have scores and feats.  Technically you do have them, I have a set of scores for each race/class (even multiclass) that I assign (stats not feats) but there is no reason to really discuss them.  If you try to do something, trust me when I say..I decided fairly if it is possible for your character.  For instance..a thief or mage attempts to knock down a door, they have a lot less chance then a Warrior.  Even a multiclass fighter has a slightly lower chance then a Warrior (Rangers are considered multiclass for this, but Paladins are not).  However, if you want flavor..you can have a clumsy thief, etc..and I will adjust scores based on that (note if one stat goes down, another goes up, and vice versa).

This prevents 'munchkin' players.  .

Same goes with feats pretty much..if you try it, and it makes sense for your character, you will have a lot more success then if it doesn't.

I will put up a link to items and prices if I can find one, as well as a list of spells for casters IF we have any.

What kind of monk are we talking about?
Is he like a monk from HoMM3 that can use spells, or more like a bare-handed, martial arts expert fighter?

Also, will we be able to choose any class with any race, or do we have restrictions?

Sorry, no bards .  Also, monks are the bare fisted, armorless, warriors..no spells..though at higher level their hands do become somewhat 'magical' (A 36th level monk can do more damage with their hands then a 36th level Paladin with a Holy Avenger (+5 to damage) AND hit more often).  Monks also improve armor class as they go up in level as long as they wear no armor (they wear armor they lose the bonus for as long as they have the armor on).  The exception is at level 5 or above they can wear leather ... they can wear it before that..but they get the bonus also.

There are no class/race limits..just remember some races are better at certain things then others.  Some also suffer penalties..

Also..there is no alignment requirement for Paladins.  ALL alignments have Paladins..who serve different gods..but their innate abilities are changed..and only the Lawful Good paladin gets the Holy Avenger..the most coveted magic weapon there is.

Well, here's the basics of my character. Thinking of making the person a mute, so silent spell would be a required feat.

Name: Austin Undrel
Race: Human
Age: 23
Class: Warrior/Mage(Transmutation specialist)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Description: Stands 5'9", weighing 186 lbs. Has short blonde hair. Also has odd sparkling silver eyes, due to a summon monster spell gone wrong. Many thought they would return to normal after a day or two, but it remained well beyond. Has darker skin than all others one would find within the wizard school he had attended, since he spent far more time outside than they. Besides his padded armor, he wears light colored clothing.
History: {To come}
Equipment: Padded armor, Rope, Torch, Backpack, Quarterstaff, Tent, Bed roll, Grappling hook(5), Chain, Ink(5 vials) and pen, Paper(10 sheets), Scroll case, Flint and Steel, Waterskin(2), Spellbook, Shovel, Fishing net, Crowbar, 97 gp

Memorized spells:
1st level: Ghost Sound, Detect Magic, Mending

They give you 1 more spell of your specialization a day and add 1 to the difficulty of saves from spells of that school/ add 1 to your attempts to penetrate magic resistance. Oh, they also restrict you from casting spells of the opposite school.

This seems like the normal monk to me... but with the ability to use leather armor. Do they get the Quivering Palm ability? And do they have to be of the Lawful alignment?

Monks do have to be lawful.  They do get the quivering palm, but remember that is a relatively high level ability.

Monks and mages are harder to start with then any other class.  They have relatively low hit points, and a lot of their abilities can not be used when wearing ANY armor (except elven chain for the casters..but good luck finding something like that).  Monks can wear any armor up to studded leather, but until level 5 where they can wear normal leather they lose any special attacks or bonus armor class they would get for being a monk.  Since their unarmed attacks are a joke, they have no starting special attacks, and their armor is only raised by one (I do it a bit different low armor class is bad, high is good) at level 1...it is normally a good idea to start them with a weapon (no sharp weapons..must be blunt) and armor..seeing as they die really easy. Mages are the hardest by far..any armor = no casting.  (I give them the feat to use armor later, but at about 15th level, and then only up to chain and it MUST be special made to allow movement..so it is expensive).

However..both become extremely potent at high level.  Mages can take out entire armies at level 36 (of low level soldiers), and Monks are the best close combat fighters bar none.

Multiclass casters remember .. if you wear armor..you can not cast your spells.  Nor can you if your hands are full.

Actually it is quite possible.  While you can not cast spells while in armor (even padded sorry) or wielding a weapon..most utility spells last quite a while (like buffing of stats).  The only draw back, leaves you less defense of a night..memorize the spells, cast them, don the armor.  Combat spells are pretty much out of the question, until you can get combat casting (then you can cast with one hand, so any one handed weapon is ok)..since we are not worrying about feats..that means at first level you can cast spells in combat.  Since this is meant to be fun...I will allow padded armor casting as well.  You get the up to chain benefit earlier also, but generally can cast less spells.

Basically multi class level either half as fast or 1/3 as fast (if it is three multiclass) so at level 6 you will be able to use up to chain without interfering.  By that time most pure mages would be level 12.

Alright, so I'll just go through this then...

Name: Jeddite Ni'Nusa
Race: High-Elf (I'm guessing that they are the elves better at close combat/ magic)
Class: Monk
Equipment: Studded leather, Quarterstaff, Sling (With normal bullet ammunition)
Alignment: Lawful Neutral

One final question. Do monks still add their Wisdom modifiers to their AC?

Edit: Damn, no spoiler tags.

Whoa... a D&D based RP! I'm interested.  But I haven't played D&D based games for years so I'll have to try to remember how it works.

A few questions:
1. Are there gods? D&D based gods to be exact?
2. Are domains applicable?
