[H3] Game of Thrones map - 3rd update 4/14/2014

3rd update published, 4/14/2014, for "Game of Thrones and Dragons".

Read below. It's better now, again. No crashes nor bugs.

UPDATES:

The end game is now a real challenge: the White Walkers' numbers have multiplied many times from the previous, and they are way more difficult to defeat (but possible).

The battle of Blackwater = Kings Landing is now fixed. It now turns out as it is supposed to.

Starks are facing "Red Wedding" so they get vanguished sooner (previously the enemy AI couldnt destroy Starks swiftly so they roamed freely until the end, but no more).

The battle for Winterfell against Boltons is properly more challenging and more rewarding. The game is also more interesting and challenging with the Brotherhood (in the Mid-South map) and in the North beyond the Wall and in the Northern Vale.

I also added some minor improvements: better terrain, speeches, etc. And Stannis now looks like Stannis (=Clancy).

I removed my earlier detailed instructions post for the 1. month, since Im not sure whether forum members want to see spoilers about Game of Thrones and the map here.

The same instructions are in the readme file. They are important to read however.

I should maybe add some description and comments about the map overall and about the first weeks:

* The map's idea is NOT a basic Heroes 3 idea: it is not balanced, you are not supposed to buy weekly troops from a castle, nor gather money and resources from mines etc.

* The map is event driven, based on Ice and Fire books, and it tries to follow the books' overall story at the strategic level. You get thousands of troops from events and from the placed creatures map who are willing to join you (use Visions spell) as well as huge money stacks placed on the map (millions even).


THE FIRST WEEKS (1-3):

* As Stannis, you are supposed to get defeated on the FIELD after taking the King's Landing during the first week! And you are supposed to flee from battle, just as happened in the books and in the series.
The ideal date to conquer King's Landing is about day 3-4, that is you start moving there from the 1. day just after you've after you've purchased the troops from Storms End and upgraded the archers to marksmen. And you are supposed to use Water Walk spell with full movement points so that you go through the river and garrison straight into the Tower castle, but you get 1/2 movement points short of the Tower so that Tyrion can retreat there to defend it so that you can totally defeat him and take the artifacts.

* After your defeat against Tywin/Garlan, there is no choice but to move North with ~1500 swordsmen and few hundred champions and marksmen from Dragonstone event (day 5). This is meant to happen, just as it did happen in the books&series (sorry about a spoiler, but just in case the players are wondering). It is not entirely my fault if CPU does not defeat you on its own immediately, but this is supposed to happen. Afterwards, there is more freedom in the North and much much more freedom after that in South to defeat whomever you want, where and when you want.

In any case, you dont have enough troops to win in the south immediately, so the idea is to go North. If you get defeated and retreat, and lose your army, the game gets much more exciting as the following battles in North will be more balanced. And yes, in the North you will get gradually more support from the Northmen, as my instruction timed events tell you ("Vision in flames" events).

Thanks, Ive done my best to follow the plot. I promise you, there will be lots of "fire and blood" and dragons. The map is also my view how the future Ice and Fire books should happen and finally end.


ALSO, I wanted to add that you dont get thousands of all 1-7 level troops in relation to their weekly numbers in each castle, so you dont get full Castle army or full Rampart army, but rather you do have to combine the troops you get. Mainly there are thousands of 2-6 level troops from many alignments who are willing to join you or from timed events.

The map is not super hard, since I'm not sure how new players understand the map and the idea and how well they manage to follow the timed events schedule. If you fail to get some of them, that wont necessarily mean you have lost the game.

- Oh, and yes, Daenerys (Dany) does have *3 DRAGONS*, full grown once you manage to get to her...

Just to add: some errors are fixed, and the map runs more smoothly, and it's more challenging and interesting. Enemy CPU can now gather its troops as I intended (without Starks ruining everything), but there are still many surprises. The AI never seems to behave quite the same way in different games, at least on my test games.

The map and the game should function fairly well even with Win7, since the map is un-Wogified. If there are some weird crashes, like sometims picking up an artifact, it might help if you do the following:

After you start WoG press ctr+alt+del - Task Manager -> Processes -> H3WoG -> Set affinity -> x to Processor 0 (instead of all 2 or 4 marked). = No more sudden crashes!

And there is also a script (that I got from this forum) that enables you to play 2-level map with correct surface terrain, as I intended: battles in snow, grass, swamps; instead of caves.

Minor updates and improvements, some terrain edited, should be more challenging, more interesting, more 'balanced'. Overall better playability and there should be no bugs.

There should be no crashes, unless the Whitewalkers combine their troops too much (causing -43209x troops), just make sure you are ready for them.

Can you be more specific, please?
I've been having some problems with a map where I give allied AI players really large amouts of hygh quality troops. Suddenly game freezes on the second week.
Those numbers are for one slot only like sometimes happens with the Necromancy heroes?

Also, I'm going to start your map but (man!!) WoG has a lot of options, wich are the one's you recommend for this map. And is it ok to use mods like Conquistador. Is there any mithril supliers? I didn't saw any.

Hello,

My map is meant to be played as SoD (there's a script that deleted the WoG options). The game idea just didn't seem to work with super experienced troops against less experienced, way too easy. And there were way too many crashes. And Im not used to playing with WoG options, way too confusing. No specdial options nor mods considered or enabled (to my knowledge at least, I havent even played any others than SoD and WoG).

Max. troop numbers seem to be somewhere around 30-50 thousand in a garrison or hero troops (9999*3=29997 being the safest). Sometimes the AI combines the troops with their heroes and it causes -31876 troops = 0 error if there are over 30k. It seems that some 29000 is the safe maximum number of troops for AI dwelling timed event, if it's over 30k, then it always causes -31653 error =  0.

I dont know how many troops you gave the AI but too many tens of thousands do cause the game to crash. In my map this should not happen (anymore).

Thank you for the map and ur awser. In fact the map disables all WoG options so my question about mods are irrelevant. It is an SoD map.

The thing is, when I saw all those WoG Objects I got confused, but they are only for decoration.

I started the map allready. It is funny and not too hard at least for now.

It was fun for me to play H2 maps with a lot of GoT references back in the times where no series existed, only the books did. Now I guess it's a bit of trend, but still.

hi i am new to the forum but old to the game, i ve been looking for something like this for a long time  and now that i have found it i cannot play

i downloaded the map and put it on the maps folder of my game but it doesnt get recognized (it doesnt show on the list of maps available)

i have the "Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete" version installed.
what am i doing wrong??? must i download a patch or something?

When i try to open the map with the map editor it sais i t cannot be open showing the message "file version 51. current version 26"


help????

The map updated to ~1.05 version 5.4.2015:

Terrain modified, especially in Reach and Vale; too many minor changes to list.

CRASHES IN THE END GAME:

If the game crashes in the end game, try using the cheat "WOGEYEOFSAURON" to reveal the map, which has worked. That is, if the game freezes, then reload the autosave, use the cheat, end your turn, and the game should continue to work regardless. => This worked for me.

Hi and sorry for a very late reply,

Download and install into Heroes 3 folder: In the Wake of Gods 3.58 (WoG). The map is made for it.

The final 2.2. version of the map is uploaded now. This is how it should have been from the start: simple, massive, freedom to move around, not too complicated, not too many deadlines, reinforcements come few times divided into several batches so you don't miss them all if you miss one if you were too slow to conquer some major castles. The undeads & whitewalkers still invade on 111. day.

Well yes in 10 years lots of things happened. I became fully employed, a family man, moved from a city apartment house to a 'hybrid country side'  at the edge of city into own home & property...

And Game of Thrones was finished, unlike the books that will never be completed.

The map story and army battles should be better than in books & series combined. Kings Landing battles, beyond the wall, siege of Winterfell and lots more should be much better. There's kind of 'alternate history' compared to books & series that should be more challenging and much more massive.

If in books & show some 100-200.000 die, in this map millions die. If in the show/books some 100.000 undead attack in one army (stack), it's way over million in this map and from many directions with many armies (all who have ever died in Westeros).

Also working on LotR map and Roman empire kind of Europe mass maps...
