Improvements for Heroes V

Since not all of us can play Tribes of the east,here are a few improvements which can be done on earlier versions of Heroes V :

a.) AI turns should be faster : after a half of hour of game,many have experienced a laggy game ;

b.) No more AI cheats : it's annoying when you invest time in building your army,and then you encounter a computer which you have no chance against.

c.) Fixed random map generator : in hammer of fate when you create a map,often that map is poorly designed,and you are forced to play against/and choose only a specific theme : no freedom of choice here.

d.) Classic heroes game : in earlier versions of heroes,the primary goal was to become stronger and defeat all of your enemies : or in this version,you have objectives to complete (which s****),and sometimes you can't even evolve your town in the highest level.

e.) Town music fix : in Heroes V version 1.6 and tribes of the east,the castle music is reset each time you enter it...so instead of continuing from the point it was,the whole orchestra starts all over again.

In the normal or castle battles this is a good thing,but for the main town music it s****...just ruins the whole game.

f.) computer never resigns : on hammer of fate,if you've taken most of the castles,the computer is tempted to quit the game : which leaves you with a bitter taste.

After you fought so hard to gain advantage over the AI,you expect to have a smooth game and rule the land,but then the computer quits.

g.) More islands and dark maps : on Heroes V + Hammer of fate,the only dark maps you have are "Defiance" and "Falcon's Last Flight",and a few more which are only black on the other side.

This is a bad thing,because it spoils the games fun : it's like having day without night.

h.) No more bugs and crashes ;

i.) Modifications on the Dungeon team : on Heroes V version 1.0,the dungeons town battle and creatures recruitment have a dark mauve graphic,which makes it perfect.

On newer versions,they've replaced that beautiful color with white blue,which seems totally out of place.

j.) Town portal spell like in Heroes 3.Why go to the nearest town,when you can choose any of them?.Also to make things more interesting,you can have the full function at a curtain level.

So as you can see,there is a lot of work to be done on these versions of Heroes.It's a sin Ubisoft has mocked this amazing game,and turned it into an incomplete series.

PS: Tribes of the East is standalone and I just see it for 4.95 on the Ubishop....not that hard, huh

The thing is this version requires a 2048 ram memory to play,so if you have 1500 or less,it will automatically be laggy.Can I buy more ram?.of course...but it's something you don't expect when you try an old game,and it takes time.

I suppose those changes will be made by someone who has advanced knowledge in computer programming...I know what most be done,but I don't have the proper skills to do them.

But I still not see the point on making that huge work. Combining Tribes of the East and Quantomas AI mod you already have most of your suggestions done, I reccomend you to get them.

For example,what do you think about points d.),e.),g.) and i.) ?.

d) I don't see the problem here, in fact is better they tried to add some variety to campaigns rather than "chase your enemy on each single map". And in H3 campaigns it wasn't that unusual that some towns couldn't be evolved completely.

e) I don't know if it's fixeable

g) More maps (and, thus, more variety) relies on the mapmaker community. Try searching on maps4heroes or Celestial Heavens

i) You mean less like this and more like this or this?

I never tried modding graphics, but I think there are chances that it can be changed....

In general Have you tried Q"s mod? It fixes turn-times very well. I make maps to play that are absolutely a horror to play in vanilla but run fine with "J". Also, it's not complete yet but by comparison the old A.I. is pretty bad.

About the graphics have you tried the vid-fix that was provided here @ HC? It turns out that the old-game has a problem using the new memory, or something to that effect. In addition xuxo made a new terrain Mod (PRT)that's "almost" perfect.

Anyway, I've shared about 24 Maps @ EE and several are not the same ol' lighting. Have you seen my Maps thread?

The Quantomas mod fixes the AI and indeed it's much better,but there are other problems that in Hammer of fate & Heroes V you didn't have : for example the town music repeats itself,and it consumes a lot more memory to play...so I guess it's a tough decision.

Also,the random map generator hasn't bin fixed in Tribes of the east,so you are still forced to play against curtain enemies.It is a bit better then the previous version,but the main problem remains.

I don't know about the vid-fix.If you can provide me with a link,it would be great.

Storm-Giant : yes,the Defiance map combined with Dungeon team was perfect,so in Heroes V version 1.0 they got it right.

There are HUNDREDS of maps you can download online

ToTE and HoF and 1.6 fix almost all of your problems

Multiple mods to make the game more to your suiting

You can  get Hof and ToTE for free

And HoMM 5 has been released almost a decade ago; It'd be very hard to find a programmer willing to make a few fixes to a game few people play and fewer who will use these fixes.

Actually I rather play HV than HVI, the only thing that really bothers me is the AI's time-turn, even with the truly awesome Quantomas mod... My HV is completely modded thanks to the community but waiting for turns really cuts me off.

Yeah... Apart from the fact that, graphically speaking, UBI had put a Heroes inside a Warcraft =), the game really is awesome.

I agree : even with all these flaws the game is awesome.Heroes 4 is way too low compared to this,and sometimes it even beats Heroes 3,but only on curtain occasions.

But what can be done about the random map generator?.

I meant to ask you before, what do you mean here?

with 3.1 I can create a RMG with all towns set to random or have some "fixed"; select Map-size and the template used;  Water= yes or no; underground= yes or no and Resource and Experience treasure-settings.

I was talking about the Quantomas mod : there the computer runs faster,but you can't play a random map the way you want to : the towns are pre-chosed from the start,which cuts a lot of the games variety,and sometimes similar factions are more then one in the game.

In 3.1 there is the Ubisoft version with slow AI and the ability create random maps the way you want to,and that's pretty messed up.

Also I don't understand why they choose to repeat the town music each time you enter it,because this thing was never done in any heroes game before(except for V 1.6).

This may not seem like much,but for some people it's completely unplayable since they relay a lot on music to get the magic started (and continuing).

I never play RMG but I did a little experimenting and found that you can play as you want. 1st, for all the RMG creating-options, just pull out the 3 "j" folders to make the random-map; then you'll see all the options. After creating the RMG then put "J" back in.

In either case, with or without the A.I. I found that it was only when I loaded the map in "Multiplayer" and then set the 2nd human position to be controlled by the A.I. that I could set whatever towns I wanted.

Hope that's the ticket for you.

I agree, I don't like the broken-records, meaning the same thing over and over and over again. What's really messed-up is that I will hear what I guess to be the Sand theme endlessly but doubt I ever hear the other terrain themes.

I think I'll see if I can do something here. Has anyone tried dropping the 3.1. music and replacing the files with HoF or Vanilla music data files?, just to see if this might do the trick.  Maybe then, the music would "wrap" and also the other terrains get played. Granted, it would be the older music but then, but if that "exe. flashback" were to work correctly, then we could drop in whatever oggs, we wanted, whether TotE or other versions and have the desired outcome.

Why are we talking about hardware performance? HoMM 5 was released in 2005 and ToTe was released in 2007 (over 5 years ago). Any computer can run it at maximum settings and at least 60 frames per second.

Performance is definitely not the issue
