Well it depends on the generations & if kids are smarter means not to make mistakes they made when they were younger.
It all depends on adults to show the kid the right path & most kids that are terrors is because either no discipline or way to much & some tomes they dont get the attention they need & find it elsewhere & dont really understand.
I think alot of very smart kids manipulate adults all the time. The problem is without the experience to look back on, the kids don't know exactly what they are getting into, and it's usually not what they want. But the adults are so blind and convinced they would sense the manipulation that it goes right past them and they fail to guide, plus making a mockery of their attempts when they finally realize they are being manipulated as the kids think they are stupid by that point.
The initial under estimation of the kids by adults causes alot of problems. I think it's the same thing people get into with different cultures which might not have as much technology, but having to survive on their wits more actually encourages intelligence whereas the societies who can take care of all their members inculding the weakest ones can have very stupid individuals- but primitive or non technological civilizations aren't unintelligent, they just don't have the same viewpoints or technology.
Look at many wars in history- the civilized side almost always experiences higher casualties until they decide to totally wipe out the weaker society and with larger #'s and more destructive weapons descend and inflict losses which the smaller society can't sustain and so they perish from the world.
