I see also Zilare a viable starting hero (could be situational), in case of too many ranged guardians, advanced water magic should not be a problem to get.

Actually, on random maps Zilare is not an option. Cassiopea deals with most shooters even more easily and she belongs to a warrior class, which is a huge advantage.

I've done a tutorial on random-map gameplay for inferno. I was using HotA, but it is yet in russian... Didn't find the time to make subtitles.

Your Inferno tutorial is really good, Nik. You do lot of explaining and the production quality is high, video/voice. You seem to have the persona for commentary. I cannot understand Russian myself, but you can still learn something just by watching it. Have you considered trying to do some English commentary at some point?

Btw, it seems possible to have another person(s) translate your tutorial. Like, if somebody would be able and willing then you could send them a 'translate invite'. You could perhaps try asking in the HotA translation thread? Just a thought.

Thanks.

Ha! Nik plays piano. Are there any other musicians in Hota team?
(you need to tune that piano though)

Thx for the reply and for the idea. Though it seems that this feature on YouTube is introduced for in-video captions only. I could ask in the translation thread, though I'm not sure if there are a lot of russian-speaking pals here, on HC

Jeremy-starting with this cannon and on top of that with logistic is indeed very good.

Illor-he is surprisingly good , rushing day 2 Ayssid(7-9)

Jeremy is my favourite because of his cannon and because he starts with Log, as you say. I will have to hive Illor a try.

Eovacious- might be worth a shot but i dont have played him yet

Been playing around a little with him.

In serious competitive play I donīt think he is efficient enough. With water magic, his special comes down to 40 mana for 3 clones. That is a spectacular effect, no mistake. But the problem (as with Solmyr) is that you can't do this repeatedly (need mana recharge), which makes him unfit for a role as main hero. Maybe he could have some fringe use as a secondary, though. Try to level him up a little as you go, then use his special that one time when you need it. Having 4 times as many sea dogs in a fight is pretty sick.

For casual single player, he is absolute gold, though. He may not be as efficient as Anabel or Jeremy, but he is incredibly fun. And can work for any faction, too.

What do you mean 40 mana for 3 clones?
His speciality makes him able to create 2 clones, first time he cast it, at standard 24/20 mana. He starts with Intelligence, so he could easily use Clone a lot. I am debating with myself if he is a bit too strong, with Wizard's Well or defending a town he could become beastly. 3 stacks of Sea Dogs or Haspids can obliterate a lot...

Maybe you are playing a different version? I have downloaded Hota recently and in my version he gets 3 clones for double mana, first cast.

This also corresponds to the description of the hero specialty on the official website (hover your mouse over his special to see the description).

Either way, yes his specialty is spectacularly strong once he is high level. The problem is to get him to a high level in the first place. He needs a few levels before he can choke up the mana cost at all. Even then, he will develop slower than a might hero because he needs to recharge his mana before every fight, which takes a lot of time, especially in the beginning of the game. So against a human opponent you cannot rely on him, and even against the AI a might hero is more efficient as main because you gain momentum faster, and the AI will have that much less time to develop. It is all about speed.

If you could pick him in a campaign where levels/skills/spells carry over to the next scenario, then he'd be really good for that. But up to date there is no campaign where you can.

Hmm that's weird. I thought there was only one version of HotA and in my game he works as I described and the description of his speciality is the way I described. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I do find it weird. But I think I have also seen the Cove heroes have differing starting skills listed on webpages, so this could be another difference, I guess.

He created 3 clones for double mana in old versions of HotA. Now it is 2 clones for usual cost.

Acidcave is NOT an official site of HotA. The only official place for eng community is here on HC.

Okay, sorry then, I misunderstood. Thanks for clearing that up.

About Cove strategy: what I found the most challenging when playing Cove is to preserve your nymphs. They are valuable since they have such high damage, but they die like flies when they get in the line of fire and they are targeted with extreme prejudice.

Nik312, I watched part of your youtube playthrough and the best lesson I learned was to see how you did this (conserving Nymphs). I guess the most basic advice here is to split off fodder stacks of 1 Nymph each, and letting the main stack shield behind it, or using them to soak retaliations. Do you have any other advice for how to let your Nymphs survive longer?

edit
It would be really cool to hire Eovacious when you're playing Inferno. Triple your pit lords and do some zeriouz demon farming.

It's not just nymphs. You have to preserve every unit you have. But if some damage is inevitable then yes, you preserve the most high-damage stacks first. Use single units for baiting neutrals or covering your stacks and use wait button properly

P.S. Cove overview tutorial:
