"Well I am just glad that neither of you were too perturbed by it all", Aura replied stiffly, her eyes narrowed somewhat accusingly.

The ogre was making quite a scene, despite being mortally wounded.  His rancid smell filled the tent quickly, a slick miasma of putrid flesh and clothing engulfed them.

Turning back to Karev and Ilena and just before exiting the tent for the fresher air outside, Aura commented, "Well its been quite an evening for us.  Two different types of guests, in such a short period of time.  I really don't know what to make of it.  Do you, Ounsnes?".

Looking at Karev and Ilena, the Captain just shrugged.

Zayl reached the town with relative ease. he heard talks of an rampaging band of greenskins led by a half ogre brute. there was a huge skirmish recently as well.
Zayl meets their ilk every once in a while. not the brightest ones, but they more than make up for it with their strenght and numbers on the battlefield.
although the least smart of them often are terrified by magic. A proper display of magical power will surely sent them fleeing.
The town itself was thriving and busy, due to heavy merchant and caravan presence.
Zayl walked through it's streets looking for the blacksmith's shop.
He stopped by one. There seemed to be quite a few apprentices in there.
- I'm looking for the smith- He said.
A bulky drakk came froth from the back of the building.
- What do you need kind sir?
- I need my armor repaired. we ran into some nasty traps at the Blackstone Fortress near the mountain passes.
The Drakk's look changed for a bit. Zayl could see the fear in his eyes. What was it that the fortresses trully hid, and what gives it such sensation of fear and terror into folk? When travelling here, Zayl saw the strange looks the passing folk gave to him, and it was not about the way he looked after he fused with this otherworldy creature.
He heard whispers about him opening "that accursed palace". once he saw a group of people, telling something about a "man who entered that den of evil". He remembered seeing them before at an inn, where they eyed greedily the gold coin he payed for his drink. It doesn't matter now. perhaps the other fortresses will reveal more about it's former inhabitants.
- So... can you do it or should I go elsewhere?- Zayl asked the drakk smith.
-Yes, yes, we can repair your armor good sir. I should be done by tommorow's evening.
- Very good. Here's a little advance payment- He tossed a few coins to the smith- I'll give the rest once the work is done. untill then.- Zayl left the blacksmith's shop, looking for a place to stay for the night.

The onslaught gave Bria a great opportunity to sneak out of the ship unnoticed. Again, the pirate girl thought it was her lucky day. As she rushed towards a small dark gangway, she noticed the freakish looking guy that she met at the ship’s hold two days ago. She hid herself behind a wooden column and secretly watched as the bandits charged the black-skinned creature.

Bria smirked and said in a low voice, “Suits you, big guy.” She felt that his rude attitude when they first met was unforgivable. She would have not let it pass if she was in the mood to fight. The girl also thought it was not the right way to treat a lady like her.

I must go now, must take this chance, she said to herself and went on her way.

Without making a single sound, Bria walked through the passageway. She was very confident that nobody saw her. It didn’t take long until she saw a light that hinted the exit. But as soon as she walked past it, three bandits appeared and blocked her way. They were all armed, their swords pointed at her and ready to attack at any moment.

“Ohh, look what we ‘ave ‘ere?” Marlamin said, with a devious laugh while licking the piercings on the side of his lips.

“She quite a beauty!” Drover exclaimed as she scanned Bria from head to toe.

“Uhmm,” Olly nodded and tightened his grip on both of his short swords, “I think we found a treasure here.”

Bria sighed in dismay. She thought she could leave the pier easily. Inch by inch the three bandits moved closer to her.  They all looked at her sharply, like how predators looked at their prey. Cautiously, Bria stepped back and reached for her daggers’ hilt.  She knew she could beat them in a fight but she decided to do it in an easier way like what she did always – fast and easy.

“You know guys, I’m a pirate,” she claimed as she held her head up high.

The bandits looked at each other confused.  “Yar not a pirate,” Olly spat, “‘Cuz you don’t ‘ave a pirate accent!”

The bandits laughed at her. Their manner was slightly getting into her nerves. But she realized that the bandit was true so she tried to answer him slickly.

“Well I’m a pirate, who doesn’t want to have a pirate accent,” Bria retorted and smiled. She speculated that she had outwitted the bandits.

“We not going to believe you,” Drover said, “Ya prolly just dressed like a pirate, but you looked more like a tave’n girl.”

The bandits laughed louder, their brownish and menacingly shaped teeth fully shown.  Their dreadful breath burst out and reached Bria’s nose. Although the pirate was used to those kind of odor, she never liked it.

Bria’s patience was near its end. Still, she hoped that bluff will work so she did it once more, she shouted at them and said, “I am Bria the Cunning! Terror of the Seas! Heard that name boys?”

The three went silent. Bria expected that she scared the bandits by mentioning her famous name. She always knew she was that famous and scary. She looked at each of them with confident eyes but none of them seemed terror-stricken by her words.  The three bandits continued to walk near her and one of them was even able to stick his little finger inside his ear, trying to get something.

“Brina… the what? Um… ‘ope.  We never heard that name.” Marlamin said jokingly as he pulled his finger from his ear. A yellowish substance came out with it.  He held it close to his lips looked at it, grinned at Bria then blew it in her direction.  Then they laughed again.

“OH, YOU BUNCH OF STUPID MORONS!” Bria snapped, “I WILL SLIT YOUR THROATS IN NO TIME!”

But before Bria was able to pull her daggers, she felt a sharp cold object touched her neck. “Who throat’s gonna get slit now, sweety?” a rough voice came from behind her.

A bandit slipped in her rear and managed to put a knife on her throat. Bria was shocked that she was not able to sense the fourth one coming.  Still driven by her anger, she tried to pull her daggers again but it was futile.  The bandit was faster than her. He pulled her closer to him and pressed the knife slightly on her neck nearly cutting her skin.  Bria gulped in fear.  She knew she had placed herself in a very dangerous position. If she had just attacked them in the first place she could have a higher chance to flee.  Without anymore witty plans in mind, Bria moved her hands away from her daggers and slowly raised it in the air.

The bandit held Bria on her chin and sniffed her hair.  The looks on his face told that he liked her scent. “Nice find guys, she smells good!”

Bria’s worried look turned baffled. Her left eyebrow rose. She knew very much that she already smelled very bad and was dying to have a nice bath. Then she wondered how bad a smell should be for these bandits to consider it terrible.

“We can ‘ave her all for ourselves, Wiley,” Drover said to the bandit that held Bria.

“Or we can give her to the boss ‘nd get a big reward,” Olly recommended.

“Or we can sell her to the tavern owner, she looked like a tavern girl anyways,” Marlamin proposed.

The bandits all went silent as they decided what to do with the pirate girl and at this point of time, Bria had also calmed down. She took the opportunity to think for her next move.

"This being led the assault on the entourage while it had no knowledge of our presence here. As such the interrogation does not interest us personally."
Ilena stepped out of the tent.
"As such we shall let Captain do his work in peace." Karev noted and followed Ilena out of the tent.

Outside he turned to the drakk princess.
"We understand your men need to bury the dead and rest before moving on."
Ilena then scanned her quickly with her eyes and spoke in her soft voice: "Wide area magic has a strain on the users psyche even if the power may exhilerate the body. We shall discuss the events of tonight after you have rested."
She then glanced at the direction the ogres used to be that now only had charred corpses. "There is walking to be done tomorrow."

Inside Aura was furious.  How dare this couple tell her when and where anything will be discussed.  But she kept her dignity, even if her words were clipped and dripping with barely concealed anger.  "We will discuss this whenever I choose.  You are a guest at my fire and as such I will treat you like one.  But you would be wise to learn your place", and Aura learned forward and brushed a thin leaf of burning embers from Ilena's shoulder.  The motion was not lost on her.  "When we reach the city, my father will be most anxious to meet with you.  And, as you are probably well aware, he will have many many questions for you.  So yes, perhaps you should rest.  Conserve your energies for later".

She turned abruptly, her gowns crashing into Karev and Ilena, causing dust to fly into their faces.

"Sleep now please.  Captain Ounsnes will try to keep the noise down, but you understand interrogation can get messy", she stated loudly as she walked away.  Aura regretted her arrogance.  She also regretted the fact that she was still on the back foot and that irritated her.  And rather than going to her chamber, she joined Ounsnes.

Karev frowned while walking back to the tent. "She is reckless."
"She is young." Ilena replied calmly. "She will learn. It is in her blood."

As the two entered the tent the air sparkled and the smell of lightning filled the air. A slight tingling sensation could be felt on the skin when moving inside. Ilena pulls up her cowl and lays down on the divan. Her eyes trace the stars behind the thin cloth.
"I can hear it so clearly. It all feels so alive."
Karev looks up. "It is closer. All will hear it soon."
Then he kneels down on one knee next to Ilena and bows his head. "Ikusesti teijjän valtiattaremme, nii tässä ku tulevassakkii elossa." He recites in a deep, dark voice.
She kisses his head and answers in a cold, high tone. "Erottakkoomme iännäkkää, kaatakkoon kalama kaheltteen."
He gets up and sits next to her. Then they both rest.

After the storm the navigation continued steadily, the crew's morale was high and Mikhail, following the advice of the captain, was intent on studying the language and customs of the three continents, as Odamgr was a bustling city-island of traders and scoundrels from all around the world.

After another day of sea-travel the ship finally arrived to the island, when Mikhail got down the ship he was overwhelmed by the confusion of the docks, since he didn't know what to do he waited for the captain to ask for help.
And so Mikhail had a brief conversation with the captain, then they decided to go to the tavern of "The Black Winds", where there was a friend of the captain that could have helped Mikhail.

-But remember lad, don't mention his scar if ya wanna get a job.
Said the captain.

The road was impervious, they had to pass through the enormous market, a place filled to the brim with people from all the world, presumably sailors, and the products of the north, altough in some stalls there were some products coming from exotic places. Many men tried to sell their wares to the two men failing everytime, they also encountered some thieves but they quickly evaded them.

After that long walk they finally arrived to the tavern, the sign was battered by the time, the old logo of a black ship was by then faded but the name was still readable, the tavern looked as it could fall in any minute.

-Don't ye worry lad, It passed the test of time... So are ya ready? Remember what I've told ya, don't mention the scar and we'll be fine.

And so they entered the tavern...

The evening was spent in a quite luxuriuos establishment. Zayl was drinking wine and conversing with another mage that he met over the years, while playing a game of chess. the pieces themselves were enchanted, and moved by pointing a finger or issuing a voice command.
-Have you heard about what happened to Assayd?- The mage asked. she appeared in her mid twenties, most human female wizards would, while the males kept a more older appearance. A little bit of amazonian appearance, as Ranila Firemane of Brekharis was not of the petite types. And She claims that the land where she's from all men and women are of strong stout build.
Zayl moved his second rook in a position to lock in the king.
- No, what happened?
- He was murdered, right in his mage tower, and some valuable tomes stolen.- She said as she tried to wriggle away from the tight situation that Zayl put her on the chess board.
- And... checkmate.- Zayl declared as his knight took a position that Ranila's king would not be able to escape from.- Another rematch? It is weird. Assayd's tower was well protected. There was only one person capable of getting in unnoticed, and it's me. And I remember that the evening I saw him, he was alive and kicking. pissed off a bit, since I woke him up from a bed with two beauties, but still, pretty much alive. Who'd want to kill him anyway? he was just a harmless scholar, never blew up Dresk or anything.
- Well, either someone's mimicking you, or...
- Are you implying that I did it? You insult us Ranila.
The mage was a bit shocked.
- No, Zayl, how can you even think of that? You never kill. Not without making a massive bloodbath first. It was a clean kill. No blood. Like he was stangled or hanged... I don't know
- True. We like bloodshed from time to time. So, what old dusty tomes were missing?
- From what I heard it was the research of the first civilisation. The inhabitants of those dreadful Blackstone Fortresses.
- Is that so..?- Zayl pondered into his thoughts as he set up his pieces for a new match.

Not wasting a moment of the precious time before the bandits closed on on him, Khaos conjured a demonic cloud that engulfed a bunch of the brigands in the front. One of the bandits sneaked up on Khaos and stabbed him in the shoulder and started laughing.
"Ahahahah, I got 'im, fellas!"
The bandit's laughter turned into shock as Khaos turned around and grabbed his neck.
"Wha-what are ya d-doin'?!", he exclaimed before Khaos ripped his head off his body.
The corpse fell to the ground and the rest of the bandits froze in place as they watched in shock what happened to the unfortunate brigand.
The big man on the horse appeared in front of the group. He got off the steed and called out Khaos to a duel.
"Fight me here and now. No tricks, no magic, just pure might."
"Puny creature, I have no time for your simplistic contests of strength.", Khaos answered back.
"Coward, stand and fight me or-", the bandit suddenly stopped. "Y-you... No, this can' t be... You are a d-demon!"
"Boss, what's ya talkin' 'bout? There' s no demons, he's just actin' weird."
Meanwhile, Khaos dissapeared from their sight and appeared behind the bandit leader.
"Time to end this.", he said in a monotone voice and struck his blade into the bandit's body. The bandit fell to his knees, then hit the ground.
The rest of the gang started fleeing right away, but Khaos didn't chase after them.

A man slowly approached Khaos as he was taking the dagger out of his shoulder.
"We would like to thank you for routing these bandits. I'm sure they would've killed us if it weren't for your interference."
"You don't stand up for yourselves. You are not worth my time, mortal.", Khaos replied and walked away.

"I g-guess you're right... Men, arm yourselves - we will find the remaining bandits and kill them before they have a chance to regroup! Forward!"
The people grabbed what they could find to use as a weapon and spread out through the streets. A bunch of them ran into some brigands assaulting a young lady from all sides.

- But didn't you said that the locking mechanism is far to complex for your average treasure hunter?
- It is. It requires a sort of special key. It does react to my weapon however. I have yet to unlock it's secrets. Yet I think we'll find out soon enough.
Zayl finished the glass and stood up.

It didn't take long for Khaos to get out of the town, or, rather, what's left of it after the bandit raid.

"It has been a long time since I last visited Tarquiss. The fortresses should be on the sides of the mountains between Suiandator and Verhalab. Judging by the conditions these vermin live in, they still haven't discovered the secrets of the elder race. The grand artifact must be destroyed before the humans get a hold of it, and the Tomb of the Dragon King sealed for eternity. The world is bound to fall if the secrets are uncovered by the lowly creatures such as them. Lighuns will be able to provide me with a good amount of information regarding the happenings in the world for the time I spent on that wretched island. "

Khaos walked across the plains and valleys for days without a moment of rest until he reached a mountain decorated with lines of all sorts.

"This is the entrance to their realm. These writings describe the way to enter."

A tall, slender man appeared from a cave in the mountain. He eyed Khaos cautiously, as if he was determining whether he was a friend or a foe.

Oh, snow! She said as she slowly collapsed on the ground.

She had no idea that this creature she decided to follow could travel without even resting for a moment.   Although naturally capable of enduring these kinds of things, Bria could tell that this was one of the hardest that she had done.

Luckily, she was able to follow the grotesque-looking creature with discrete. Her interest with him sparked when she learned from town that he was a ‘demon’. Bria speculated that the he might give her answers, if not, hints to this desperate quest that she accepted.

Gradually, she dragged herself up and sat. Like what she did most, she intended to sneak a quick look on him to get a better view and plan for her next move. But this time, the pirate decided not to. Bria used that moment to rest.  She closed her eyes and relaxed herself to regain her strength.  Instead, she sharpened her ears and listened.

"It is a long story of suffering at the hands of humans and trying to return... home. ", Khaos replied.
"Yet, the curse was not removed from you, was it?"
"What happened to me was the price I had to pay for the safty of our land. I do not regret it. It was the only way."

"Enough talk. I need to see the king and inform him of the situation outside these walls. For too long has he waited."

Khaos placed his palm on the rock and started chanting some words. A tunnel opened up in front of him and he went inside.
"There is a human girl somewhere amongst the rocks. She has followed me all the way and she will probably need food and rest judging by the amount of time I spent walking. Or a burial."
"I'll check that out. The way is still the same, if you remember it. Forward, left, left, right, left, right, right, left, left, left, right,  and forward again.

With all her remaining might, she trudged near the two. She looked at them, fiercely, scrutinizing their appearances.  She breathed deep and stood firm, showing them that they were wrong to judge her of being frail. She even managed to smirk at them. Then she turned to the black-skinned creature and said, “You aren’t going to leave me here, are you? I need to a –“

Her words were obstructed when she felt that her hearing suddenly went weak. Her heart began to beat faster and faster.  And her vision turned blurr. She shook her head believing it will take away the feeling but it only made it worse. She began to feel dizzy and her knees began to tremble.

I will not collapse…  I will not collapse… she said. Then she looked back at the fiend sharply, only to find that her sight was being consumed by darkness.

The drakk armorer that worked on the armor was just finished polishing it. The black color which was infused in the metal was rewened, giving it a flawless look.
Zayl put on his freshly repaired armor and payed the smiths for their work.
On his way out of town he ran into Ranila.

"You are young. You weren't even born when it happened... My sacrafice has gone forgotten... I am here to see the king. King Palnaris the Third, to pe precise."
"Do you have an invitation with you?"
"What invitation?"
"The King has ordered that no one without an invitation, a pass, or a Crest of Royalty is allowed to pass and enter the palace."
"What went on with him? He was never the one to restrict the entrance to the palace."
"Don't waste my time, do you have the invitation or not?"
"No, I don't. Take me to the king, or I'll have to force my way inside. If you value your life, you'd do well to avoid that."
"If you think that you'll get past all of the guards, you think wrong."

A voice came from behind Khaos "Let him in, boy."
"W-who are you?", the guard asked.
"I am your captain, Faraieathol Uwaris. You probably don't know it, but you are talking with one of the most important people in our history. He is the one who gave up everything he was to save his people long ago, and I was there to witness it."
"But, sir, he is not one of us! Look at his skin! His eyes! They aren't like ours, sir!"
"Are you implying that I am lying, guard?"
"No, sir, I just-"
"Take him to the king, or you'll be in a very unpleasant situation."
"Y-yes, sir! Right away s-sir!"

"I've brought the girl to the healers", Faraieathol said to Khaos, "They say she'll be alright after resting a bit."

Khaos nodded and entered the palace with the guard.

Ranila was in fact very prepared for the journey, although you couldn't sya that just by look. As a master artificier she was able to craft some items which appear normal. on the outside. on the inside however it was bigger, like a tiny pocket dimension. and it did not over encumbrenced the carrier, making the journey easier.
Unlike Zayl, Ranila liked a comfortable rest. Whereas Zayl often rested in caves or makeshift shelters, Ranila favored her yurt. Although it looked like a pile of furs thrown over bones of gigantic animals, inside it held all the commodities and luxuries of Ranila's homeland.
-It'll be a good two days march deeper into the desert- Zayl said as he consulted the map he had. It seem to shift depending on it's location- We hope you have packed a lot of water.
- Do not worry, I do have. besides, you can conjure it can you?
- It tastes foul. As a last resort, yes, we can do that. Let us not waste any more energy, and continue on.
While traveling they discussed many news and business of the mage society. Zayl was happy, as long travels can be maddening without a companion.

When Bria opened her eyes, she was stunned by the sight that greeted her. The mountain and rocks were nowhere to be seen and the smell of stale dry air had vanished. Instead, she was welcomed by a simple yet properly furnished room. The aroma of peculiar essences that blended with the air soothed her body as she breathed. The rigid and jagged surface that she knew she fell down was now a soft comfortable mattress. She clenched her fist and it was tight and firm.  Her once wearied body was now full of vigor and strength. Even the hunger that ailed her was no longer present.

Upon realizing that she was not in the place where she expected to wake up, something came up in her mind.  Her eyes widened and her shoulders went stiff. Immediately, she tucked her fingers inside her jerkin trying to reach for something. After a few moments, she sighed in relief. The pirate’s body went back to its previous calmness when she felt that the object she was searching for was still inside.

But even with all of these certainties, her face did not indicate contentment. She frowned and said to herself, I shouldn’t have done that… should’ve used my reserves. Now I lost track.

Irately, Bria got up from bed and surveyed the room rapidly turning her head left and right but carefully concentrating on each section like she was trying to locate something. A huge variety of herbs – leaves, fruits, twigs and barks of plants met her eyes. Some were hanged, some were inside the jars and others were just scattered on the tabletop. An assortment of liquid was also exhibited inside the room in different colors. Some were familiar to her others were just weird. Yet, there was no sign of the black-skinned creature or her belongings.

Bria pondered for a while. With all the bad luck that she just experienced, she thought that she cannot just leave the place empty handed so she decided to squeeze something valuable from it. With haste, the pirate left the bed and went towards a small closet that she spotted earlier. It was heavily locked and judging from the structure the bind it, one could use a key to open it or break it with great force or just picklock it. The pirate also assumed that something valuable, maybe gold, was hidden inside. Since she was adept in stealth stealing, Bria chose the latter.

She reached something from her pocket, a black thin metal which measured nearly a couple of inch. She inserted it inside the lock hole, twisting and turning it in a fast manner when suddenly she heard a faint creaking sound of wood. She noticed that sound was coming from the door behind her. And when she turned to verify it, a young girl stumbled upon her sight. She was in her teens. Her hair was short and dark. Her arms were holding a basket covered with brown cloth. Her eyes were small and colored gray and they were stuck at her.

“What are you doing?! Yo- you’re a thief! ” the girl said scandalously. She dropped the basket from her arms and Bria’s belongings that it held scattered on the floor including her daggers.

The girl turned away to scream for help but she froze when she found herself locked behind Bria’s arm and the pirate’s dagger aimed at her chest.

“Easy little girl,” Bria whispered in the girls sweaty ears, “I just need you to do a few things for me.”

Bria dragged the girl near the closet and motioned her to open it. The girl trembling in fear reached a key from her pocket. And with shaky hands, she opened the lock.  Bria’s eyes widened when she saw what was inside it.

“What the… It’s full of snow!” she exclaimed staring furiously at the containers filled with objects that looked bizarre and garbage to her. Frustratingly, she turned back to the girl and said, “Where do you keep your gold here?”

“WHAT INSOLENCE!” a loud voice echoed inside the room.

The two turned their eyes at the door and found a woman gawking angrily at them. She was shorter than the young girl and had grey hair. Her skin was weatherworn and dark. On her right hand she held a long branch that seemed to serve as her walking aid.

“We helped you wholeheartedly and this is how you repay us!” she followed.

“Who told you to help me?” Bria argued, “I can recover on my own!”

The old woman did not answer. She just continued staring at the pirate. Silence reigned inside the room for a while and it made Bria feel irritated. She raised her eyebrow as she looked at the old woman and broke the silence, “Well, if you really want to help me give me all your gold and tell me where the fiend is.”

“How dare you call him a fiend!” the old lady spat, “You do not even know the sacrifice he had done for us.”

“Look old woman,” the pirate answered in a tensed tone. She locked her eyes into hers sending seriousness that her words were true, “I am not interested with those petty things. If you don’t want to answer my questions, this girl will bleed to death!”

“Then make her bleed!” the old woman dared, “Her death is nothing to us, nor mine!  If you want answers go find them yourself!  We do not wish to help a blasphemous woman like you anymore! ”

Bria’s eyes narrowed. The old woman’s words struck her. She stayed silent and thought about it deeply.

“Hmph,” she said as she pushed the girl to the ground, “I don’t want to waste my time to worthless people like you.”

“Then get out of here,” the old woman demanded, “NOW!”

The pirate stared fiercely at the old woman then collected her other belongings on the floor. The old woman looked back at her in the same manner but more intensely, “Heleina, escort her out.”

“Y-yes, Elder,” the young girl answered hastily getting up to her feet.

When they reached the main door just downstairs of the room, Heleina spoke from Bria’s back, “Elder is a good woman. You could’ve asked nicely.”

Bria turned back to Heleina, having another argument in her mind to start with but found the door to the tower already closed. She sighed frustratingly. Today was not a good day for the pirate. She leaned on the wall and lowered her tricorne that it almost covered her eyes, and then she said, “I need a drink.”

And she told you, laughing down to her core, so she would not cry, as she lay on your lap,
"Nobody here can live forever, quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer."

Now, this is a paradox...

If the palace was looking very well decorated on the outside, the interior would then be described as heavenly. Millions of tiny pebbles formed elaborate mosaics on every wall of the octagonal room which represented the main and the only chamber of the palace. The floor was covered by exotic looking carpets made by the Drakk people varying in colors from bright red to ocean blue. The king was sitting on a massive throne in the center if the room.

"Your grace", a guard approached him, "a... man wishes to see you."
"Hm? A man? What do humans wish to do with us now?"
"Your highness, he is not a human... If what I heard is true, he appears to be a... Lighun like one of us."
"Could it be? Bring him here, now!"
"Yes, your highness."

The guard went to Khaos who was standing at the palace's entrance.
"The king will see you. You may greet his highness."
Khaos nodded at the guard and headed forward.

"My king, I have returned at last."
"Ah, it trully is you... Hamel..."
"I am no longer Hamel. Hamel is gone."
"You left us right after the final battle. You couldn't bear the thought that you are not yourself anymore, is that the truth?"
"My king, I don't want to dwell in the past. I have redeemed Hamel with this sacrafice and there is nothing else to be said."
"You have been hiding from your own people just because you thought they wouldn't accept you. Had you stayed, maybe the things could've gone a different way..."
"I am here now, I have the knowledge of the humans, their goals, their lives. What happened then could easily happen now again; they only need to find the way into the fortresses and the Tomb of the Dragon King..."
"We already know of the dangers, but there is something else that is of even greater importance."
"What could that be?"
"It's the other world; the portal is expanding and it threatens to devour all of Harklen. We have tried closing it, but several of our greatest sorcerers died in the process and the ritual couldn't go on."
"How did this happen? The portal was supposed to be safe. What of the colonies on the other side?"
"No one that has ventured into the portal came back. We have had no communication with them ever since the portal started malfunctioning."
"That must mean that there is another portal here, on Harklen."
"How could that be possible?  Only we have the knowledge of dimension traveling."
"You forgot that there are other creatures capable of magic. The humans have some magic proficiency, the Drakks inherited it from their ancestors... It was only a matter of time before some of them realized how to achieve that."
"I will call the council tomorrow and we shall discuss these matters then. Now, go and get some rest."
"I do not rest. For ages I walk this world without a moment of sleep. But I will take my leave, if that is your wish."

Khas bowed and walked out of the palace.
