Homm3 is still a thriving game. See how many people are still playing it in GameRanger or the number of games posted per week on Twitch.
What is going down is HC. When HotA camed out it revived the community a bit but now that stoped.
As we don't get so many maps and mods these days, people still playing tend to be more online gamers then hard fixed maps enthusiasts and (as I see it) the laters were the guys who filled the pages with questions, sujestions and reported bugs.
IMHO, we need the WoG 3.59 GrayFace has been trying to develop or some other revolutionary project, so the foruns get flooded with new maps.
If some of these new maps become so talked about as 300, TEW IV and TDS were when they come out more people will return to the game and the community.

I thought Homm3 was no longer supported online. I thought Gamespot stopped hosting the game years ago and that was it.
What's this GameRanger website?
As for mapmaking, that might have been my favorite part about Homm3. I loved making maps.
