Design your Fortress
First of all, the Fortress I'm talking about are the Dwarves.
Second, I know it's a long shot but what if Fortress win against Sylvan? Or what if Ubisoft says "snow it, let's have a four-way vote for the last slot". Or if we inspire Ubisoft enough, maybe Fortress will have another chance.
One can dream. I want both Fortress and Sylvan to be in the base game.
Anyway, so, a lot of people are saying, the problem with H5 Fortress is its lineup. Give your ideas on how Fortress should be like.
Me first.
Core:
1. Defender / Shieldguard - like H5, these guys doesn't do much damage but are very sturdy. Ignore the bow in the picture below.
2. Blacksmith / Mastersmith - this creature's looks should inspire innovation. He's a support type. He can destroy/repair armor and he has a musket for a weapon. Yes, that means Blacksmiths are range.
3. Ice Troll/Mountain Troll - these guys have decent attack but are not as sturdy.
Elite
4. Grizzly Bear / Polar Bear - These cute bears are like white bear riders except no dwarf riding it.
5. Rune Priest / Patriarch - just like H5
6. Thane / Thunder Thane - just like H5
Champion
7. Jotunn / Frost Giant
8. Fire Dragon / Magma Dragon

Too many dwarves or dwarf-like humanoids for my liking, and Im not too fond of the dwarves in general
Would rather mix it up with some valkyries and fire spirits... And magma dragons, in Ashan, are wingless...

In my case I would prefer something like..
Core:
Defender (defensive melee)
Scout (ranged, saboteur)
Armoured bear (offensive melee)
Elite:
Runepriest (shooter/spellcaster)
Mammoth (melee tank)
Valkyrie (offensive flyer, support)
Champion:
Fire giant (epic runehammer properties)
Magmazilla (wingless, firebreath)

+ 1  this is the only real fortress, just do this and put one dwarf unit in Sylvan again, problem solved  .

We can have a swamp-like faction. They can just redesign Sanctuary. Fortress belongs to the Dwarves now.

Now seriously, dwarves are overused in many fantasy games and the h5 line-up was pretty boring, 6 dwarves and 1 dragon, that was disappointing...

You couldn't find a bigger fan of H3 Fortress then 13 year old me  . Now I'm "a little bit" older, but still I'm a big enthusiast of this town. When I want to play "lizard fortress" I just click the icon of Heroes III on my desktop.
Ashan's Fortress is a dwarven town. It won't change.
Friendly reminder: Ashan dwarves have nothing in common with frost/cold magic. We can see that in H5 they use fire and occasionally lightning. Fire. It's a fire nation!
What line up I would like to see? That is the question .
I mostly agree with Elvin. His line up is really cool, I would only switch scout with Salamander . Lizard-like fire humanoid with shooting ability. It would be a nice reference to "lizard fortress" .

Anyway, yeah Elvin's is good too but I'd replace Scout with Blacksmith and Fire Giants with Thane. We already have a flaming creature in Champion. Would be good if the other one is of another element. Like lightning.

This was in the past. If Fortress ever returns you can bet it will be different. Most likely scenario is there will be one lava dragon, a grizzly bear without a dwarf riding on it, and a valkyrie, possibly one more non-dwarf unit which leaves 3-4 units to be dwarves which is an acceptable number. H5 Dungeon also had 4 Elven units.
What's done is done. Using past unit line ups to discredit possible future line ups is cheap and short sighted.
Also, Fortress in H3 sucked big time imo. They were boring and bland, I'm glad that faction is gone and that the name Fortress is now in the hands of the dwarves where it belongs.

3 "race" units is enough. I always loved variety of creatures in Heroes games and big number of dwarves/elves in one town just kills the fun. If I want to play "one-race army" I play Disciples .
I hope Fortress will be the part of H7 at some point of game's "life" !

I think you may have things confused, a bunch of dwarves is boring and bland (dwarves are badly overused in fantasy anyway), while the Lizardmen/Gnolls with their many allies were among the more imaginative of the H3 factions.

Fortress belong to the first named like that. And I still enjoy playing H3 Fortress. This town is very unique, unlike just another dwarfs town. We have this in so many games, novel, movies. Swamp town is something very special, and was making Heroes 3 unique.

Yeah, almost every fantasy games has dwarves, they are as overused as every other race made by Tolkien, they are just short humans . Ubi's heroes don't even have an original theme for dwarves, they are the same as in every other typical fantasy game: they live underground and are mainly blacksmiths and miners.

It is just his opinion, he can dislike them for no damn reason if he wants. If you noticed, a ton of users on this forum aren't really giving constructive criticism, but are just complaining and b*tching how they don't like this and that, and for no reason whatsoever!
About Swamp faction, yeah I liked it too and it is probably among the favorite H3 factions for me, but they definitely can't call that faction Fortress if they want to bring something close to it back in H7, since we already know what is Fortress in the Ashan lore.
