The fact that there weren't separate dwellings for every creature in H5 was a minus too, the military posts aren't that interesting. Every creature should have its own map dwelling, sure, they could put buildings were you could recruit all cores/elites from a faction, but they should be an addition not a replacement for the individual dwellings.

+1

That was a major bummer. Having to "set-up" everything for level 4-7 creatures was a cheap move. Worse yet...No neutral dwellings, except for the obscure Fire Lake which was also a box that had to be customized.

It wasn't balanced well too, some factions just stomped face later in the game, some owned early on. It's not too different from HoMM3 and necromancers on XL map, but.. yeah.

Yo i never understood why they added 100 dwarves in that garrison.

How about Heroes 3 remastered? I bet people would go for it.
I certainly would, especially if it gave the option of larger maps, and gave us a few more map objects.

Have you tried Horn of the Abyss?

Oh yeah, and there's probably no need for a HD Remaster, there's already a HD mod for Heroes III

Let's not forget that they are creating the game for new gamers as well.
The way H1,2,3 catch you when you were young (off course you still are ), they'd like to catch some new blood.
I'm for tradition and I love H3 for sure, but I understand why we move for the 3D.

Perhaps most here are nostalgic and have fear of new things.
Heroes 7 as a new game will contain traditional elements that make this game unique but also must offer something new to attract new players.

It is important to support new releases.
Heroes 7 will be a mix of traditional and new elements. I do not care whether the game will be more traditional or not. It's a brand new HoMM game and I will buy it.

Without new features = no new players.
Without new players =  no future for HoMM.
It's a matter of taste, not everyone can be satisfied.

it's not quite as plain and simple as that when Ubisoft is concerned, PhoenixMK, who in many cases have failed/refused to keep the traditional elements intact, and generally speaking have sucked at offering new features of any substance

Yes, we are nostalgic, although mostly I suspect because we've seen what a clusterf*** Ubisoft can make of things, H5 took two expansions to get really right, and even then is a resource hog, and as for H6...the less said there the better, all of the 'innovation' issues of H4, combined with the 'operational' issues of the early releases of H5.

We will when Ubisoft does, two almost-unplayably-buggy games in a row do cast a shadow though.

I disagree with this. Even though homm3 was a great game it was not liked by all, there have already been graphic update mods for homm3, the newer generations have not even played homm3 and so would see the game mechanics and systems as old and taking a step back compared to homm5 or 6. Basically what im saying is homm3 was/is a great game for 1999 but we expect much more these days and deservedly so.

More people stuck in the 90's I see. H5 was a great game, probably right after h3, so I have no idea why people complain about it. It introduced a new race, introduced new orcs, had all resources, more than decent campaign and so on. It was really great compared to H6.

The only minus was lack of maps. Why is 3D so unnacceptable for some of you beats the hell out of me.

So I'd say go ahead, ask for a remastered H3 and play the same game all over again.

This.

With TotE, H5 was a better game than H3.
People are nostalgia-obsessed.

I don't think anyone would refuse what Doomforge said

Doomforge said:

I can imagine such a H3 remake being made, and I see the same result. The skills, spells, creatures, everything is the same but it will look more "new" because of the graphics. And people will not like it because of that.

H5 had a much better skill system, creature abilities, etc. But it was new. It was not H3. So, no love. Those people will never like any future Heroes games either. There is no possibility.

You can see it happen everywhere. Take music for example. Nearly for every musician, people will say "he/she went bad after X(place a very old and decent album name) album." That musician goes ahead and makes an even better album twenty years later but those fans don't like it anyway. Why? Nostalgia. It's about human nature more than the game quality, really.

This is wrong on so many levels. It is quite the opposite, H6 was the most major step back in the franchise, lacking around 80% of gameplay features. Even H5, having similar game mechanics than H3, was a step backward due to generic universe and graphics (this hasn't been said enough already?).

oh and did it have a much better launch and patch support process, non-memory leak-prone engine, polished campaign and storyline, graphics, atmosphere, soundtrack, AI, multiplayer support, map editor, sense of charm?
no didn't think so lol

if you do some research you'll find people have different values as to exactly what they want out of a full package, certainly the "skill system, creature abilities" was improved, but that is an unbelievably sucky fallacy to just conclude it was objectively a better game
it's not for no good reason H3 is up on an untouchable pedestal, and please, don't even try to lob that lame "n" word in my direction, nostalgia, because I played H5 before even hearing of any other HoMM game

Well, it might be stupid, but each time I get my hands on a new Heroes game, I'm looking for that spark, that nostalgic familiar feeling "yes, this game will take many hours of my lifetime" or simply "I'm at home". I'm open for new things, but new things are the domain of other games that I might try playing. In Heroes, I'm looking for that old familiarity, and yes, to the point that the game might not differ much from H3 in terms of game mechanics (or even H4 which I also find to be a great game), yet I would still enjoy it. For a moment I had that feeling with H6, but it's repetitiveness and multitude of bugs ruined it for me...

You can ask why not stay with Heroes with H3 then? I am, I'm still playing it, but like with many other Heroes players I'm also looking for sth fresh.

My point is, I'm not looking for drastic changes in game mechanics. I'm looking for a simple yet deep continuation of the franchise, with some new things, but based on solid features and foundations...

If you think H3 had better GRAPHICS than H5, my words end there, sorry. And don't get me started about the epic H5 soundtrack.

Anyway, this is not the place for this discussion. This is H7 sub-forum. I can't understand how a mod didn't even move this from here in the first place. This has nothing to do with H7.
