Warfare Unit discussion/speculation

Thus far, it is apparent that every faction is going to have unique warfare units of three different varieties - a "catapult', a "ballista", and a healer. Conspicuously absent is any sort of ammo cart - what now regulates shooter ammo, if anything?

But back to the varieties, the variants thus far appear to be:

For Haven: catapult, ballista, and priestess
For Academy: great pyramid, small pyramid, and healing tent

What do you hope for or expect of other factions in any capacity?

For some reason, when I think of the Sylvan "catapult", I envision some kind of gigantic, seed-spitting flower.

I was afraid they'd keep the direction of Heroes 6. I really wanted the classic warmachines back, wooden catapult, balista... I just hope this whole new thing will turn out ok. It's never been seen before with Heroes so it might not be received so well.

It is hard to say what they can do with Warfare units and what those units will be for each faction.

The thing I really hope for(and except to be honest) is Cyclop with Boulders instead of Catapults for Stronghold, just like in H6.

GP is probably gonna be the upgrade for Small Pyramid.

i have no idea really. but i guess we will see some real deal improvements.

i love war machines and such... they were really weak in h6, i think they will fix this.

maybe academy pyramid uses mana to heal? or maybe they may heal and grant mana?

maybe haven sisters will not only heal but also provide morale bonus?

maybe entire diffent things? who knows... i want to see some information to speculate about. its a really interesting topic.

With the latest Q&A mentioning that Warfare units can be upgraded, I'm not sure if those pyramids are part of the same Warfare unit (I hope).

Still early to tell, we need more info!

Well, seeing how there is a healing tent, I think Pyramid is either a catapult or ballista replacement.

Or it could be something different, like Magic related (remember that Academy is supposed to be the most Magic faction of all).

I'm really liking the idea of Warfare units. Sure, they could all fit some "normal" role, but I really like how each is a bit different. One of the good things about H6 was that the catapult was different, instead of each faction having wooden catapults, wooden balistae, tents for healing, and some carts.

H6 had the classic catapult for Haven, and then more intricate designs for the rest. Dungeon and Stronghold had some cool units (though the catapult was mostly a re-skin of another unit) while the Inferno and Necropolis had some downright wicked catapults. i hope this trend continues.

I will gladly ahve some changes. Back in H5, Dwarves and Wizards had some interesting abilities involving war machines. Though now more things are being less mechanical (Pretty sure a Cyclops is not made of gears and pulleys), it brings more interesting ideas.

I do wonder about "creature types", if that makes sense. In H6, the catapults were all structure-like. They weren't "alive" or anything. However, with the Sister being a warfare unit, I wonder if these WUs have some "characteristic" abilities. Especially since they upgrade, they must have some differences, but would the catapult be "mechanical" and the sisters "living"?

No, pretty sure it's the healing unit. Besides the name, the other units correspond with the catapult and ballista of the Haven faction, so in all likeliness, they share similar roles.

I think the healing tent is probably meant to make the actual nature of the healing ambiguous. Who knows what's in that tent? Healing supplies, mechanics, restoration spellcasters - certainly sounds less straightforward than Haven's priestess, that's for sure.

I think that he was talking about Pyramids being something different from Catapults and Ballistas. Healing tent is for healing, of course... I mean even its name says that.

Yes, yesterday I didn't realize healing tent was bolded.

maybe the healing tent is like the NATO, supposed to heal and bring peace to wounded units, while actually shooting ICBM's Magic Missiles

I think it would be best to cut off that line of jokes.

Anyhoo, think there might be a possibility that both catapults and ballistas might appear on the same field? Oh, I don't mean sieges - I mean random skirmishes. Sure, the catapult is completely meant for sieges, but I can totally see the shots of one's heavy artillery either crushing individual battalions or breaking down cover. Might be inaccurate as all get-out, but there's potential there.

This seems to be the most interesting aspect of the game, do we have a full list of  warfare by now?

For now the interesting thing is that support units differ and that's cool.
Faceless provides a dark shield that applies damage to the attacker
Mother treant casts regenaration and it is supposed to revive dryads(it doesn't work)
Healing tent heals.
Sisters I m not sure,never used haven.
So necros might raise skeletons
And as for the stronghold i really don't know, or care

Ballistas are ballistas ,so no change there.
It's nice to see variety on the catapult department. Even if it's only visual.

Necropolis and Stronghold both have hybrid warfare units (attack and support in one)

Necropolis has Namtaru

and Stronghold has Dreamwalker from H6 (In H7 it's called Dreamcatcher)

There were visual differences between catapults in H6 already. How do they look like now?
