HOMM8 New Start (Myths of the world)

I want to leave the world of Ashan behind, pretty much leave EVERYTHING behind, maybe only keep some heroes names intact that still play some roles.

What about a NEUTRAL world without real overwhelming good or evil side? Just different mythologies fighting against eachother with some new storyline? (which I haven't decided yet)

The system of the games would still be the same with upgrades and changes but the towns, creatures and storyline would be VERY different than before. (as i'm kinda sick of the same old town themes and same old stuff in every game with upgraded graphics)

These would be the mythologies in the game with their 8 creatures.
UNLIKE previous homm games the upgrades of the creatures look different in many ways from their non-upgraded creatures, not just different colors and weapons but very different looks in some cases.

(I also wanted to do an South-American, Indian, Chinese, Inuit and Australian town, but there were too few creatures to create such towns so I added them in the TRUE neutral list)


Some upgrade names are stupid, silly and boring, but give me time to search cool names for each of them, that isn't really easy for most of them!

I'll add town stories, ideas and such stuff later on, but for now only the themes and creatures for each towns + eventual bosses and neutral creatures that have connections with the mythology but which aren't joining the armies of the towns.

In most towns there is a leading unit, while I left out the usual ones like Elves, Dwarves and such overused ones, I replaced them with new ones.

Greek have the Spartoi, which are human-like creatures but bigger and more powerful, they are bred warriors that grew from a dragons (teeth) blood.
Japanese have the Oni, which are spirits that like to possess other creatures and take over their lives.
Celtic have none, they are much like the Undead, they are a collection of creatures from the dark forest, they are probably ruled by the Fae.
African have the lizardmen-like Intulo.
Native American have the shapeshifting Skinwalkers
Slavic have the nature-loving Leshy
Philippino have the Aswang, strange intelligent ghoul-like creatures that can seperate from particular parts of their bodies.
Norse have Berserkers (and einherjar which are spirit berserkers)which are humans that were exposed to cruel rituals to become magical beings.
Egyptian have normal ordinairy humans.

No indeed, homm is keeping the same stuff alive and giving it better graphics, but worse gameplay.

This. HoMM has its own style of mythology/lore/town style and doesn't need to copy from existing mythology (any more than it does already, at least). This isn't Age of Mythology.

BTW, just so you know this is a proposal, this isn't going to happen, be glad, we will have 10 other Ashan games probably, with the same old towns over and over again but with better graphics.

The creatures DO match in behavior and environment. (don't count the neutrals, they don't have nothing to do with the others except the mythology which they come from, but not the environment.

Like in HOMM the myths won't be a 100% match to their real myth, they are just connected through the mythologies they are coming from but that is all, their behavior and their storylines aren't a match with the true myth, of course some of their behavior that really makes the creature is in the game, but you can't have just 3 gorgons and have that hero slay one of them and use the head to beat a kraken, THAT is the myth, but in homm there are lots of medusa's/gorgons, that is one example. Vampiric creatures still suck out blood and Intulo's still have the gecko-like looks, they just behave differently from their myths to match the game. DUH. Tsemaus is a water creature in the myth, but I made it a sand-version so it can swim in sand but keeps ALL other traits that it has in the myth. Wendigo's are most often cold forest creatures, but I've seen a lot of Wendigo's in different forms that live in different places, in my case it lives in the desert and has different horns, not the antlers of a stag but one from a desert dwelling antelope, there is cannibalism in the desert too, you know.

All creatures will have a reason to work with the town, i'll add that all later. some are enslaved, others are bound, others have their own reasons to join and some others are more mysterious and even trying to corrupt their own faction from the inside out.

Some creatures need more backstory to explain them i'll agree, but others (like the celtic town) are a perfect match in behavior already, in case of the Celtic town its that they all deal and spread death and live around dark places and forests.

And yes this post is crowded with grammar-mistakes, but I'm in a hurry.

In Greek mythology they were called Myrmidons.

Also, leaving Dwarves out from Norse faction seems almost an heresy to me. They shouldn't be in because they are overused?

With that logic you shouldn't use medusae/gorgons, minotaurs, harpies, banshees, valkyres, berserkers, griffons, onis, hydras, gargoyles... damn this list is going to be too long. They all are pretty used almost everywhere, in one or another form. Maybe not as playable races, but monsters everywhere.

I can also thing 3-4 ways how to make Tuatha De Danann/ Aos Si different from norse Alfar and generic fantasy elves.

Yup HoMM is a fantasy and mythology "kitchen sink" game and works best in that format.

Anyway the idea here would work fine as some heroes like mythology game. If the author would give some more thought to every faction, besides dumping a bunch of creatures together.

No the myrmidons are from other myth. Those came from ants. The Spartoi were either from Jason and the Argonauts or the founding of Thebes, dont quite recall. Either way you are right with the rest.

Dwarves are for people with limited fantasy. So no, they had their time.

I like Berserkers much more.

And like I said before (but people seem to be blind) I will explain in time why the creatures work together, so they aren't just put together.

And yes there will be famous creatures, but mostly in the GREEK part of the town, to keep at least ONE town that has nostalgic feelings to it, and Greeks are just overused, so you can't create a very original town from it as all creatures are milked out.

Owh and Geny, please get out of this topic, you are just a hater.

Sorts is also known as the HOMM3 hater, so I don't care if you hate random creatures together. HOMM3, also had a non-race theme.

BUT this proposal has a race theme, you just don't know or see it.

But Berbalangs and Aswangs are both aswang species and Berserkers and Einherjar are also the same creatures.

I hate towns with more than 2 race creatures in the town as most of the heroes will also be Berserkers and Aswang and such race-themed creatures.

The only town that doesn't have a race theme is the Celtic town, but they have HAGS ruling the town as heroes, much like the dungeon from HOMM3 I would say and the Tower as well.

I liked the thing more in homm3, I hated the other homm games with passion.

I'm not a hater dear, the consensus is that your ideas are pretty terrible. And i didnt say the myrmidons werent from the greek myths, all i said was that the spartoi and them were separate stuff.

I'm not hating H3. There are lot of things that i like in H3, but also a lot that i dislike or disagree with. And i have a tendency to lash out against rabid H3 fanboys, who "in my not very humble opinion" hurt the series more than any bad decisions by NWC, 3DO or Ubisoft.

But all this belongs to some other thread.

No. All factions have a central theme: Castle - pseudomedieval human kingdoms, rampart - sylvan creatures, tower - wizards and their servants, dungeon - underworld creatures and so on. Yes indeed... Minotaurs and Medusa's and harpies are underground creatures...

Dream on.

Egyptian = Desert creatures, not just randomly threw together.

Celtic = Black forest creatures that are mostly death dealers.

African = Jungle creatures, many which are lizard/dinosaur like. PERFECT suit.

Norse = ice based creatures revolving around war and battle. PERFECT suit.

Philippino = Jungle/swamp and nature based creature, like the opposite of the Slavic town. All creatures are revolving around SHADOW.

Native American = Desert creatuers + Wendigo which can be in any territorium. All animalistic creatures which suit with the Skinwalker theme perfectly. I think you don't know about most creatures in this town so you just assume they are randomly threw together. Which you are again wrong in.

Slavic = Much like the Sylvan town, elemental and nature-hugging creatures, some with darker backgrounds, while they are evil towards creatures that destroy nature (like humans) they are gentle to creatuers that embrace nature.

Japanese = The most "nasty" town of all, as they are much like possessed by the Oni, posession spirits that corrupt all in their path. There doesn't need to be a theme here as Oni's possess all the creature in the town.

Greek = Much like HOMM games, the dungeon town, but they just suit together.

So you see, I have more themes than you can dream off.
