Heroes 3 [WoG/ERA] Mod - Dawn of War

Hello all users.

You may not know, but for long time i was secretly working on the new modification called the "Dawn of War" (now not so secretly because im telling you about that mod xD). This project is huge, it will literally change every single castle in a lot of ways. Mostly what will change is the balance between towns and (the most important thing) the lineups. What will this mod bring for you my friends? :

a) It will add to the game new town : Abyss (The famous town of Axolotl which was created by him and added to VCMI by Mitlandy, will now be added to the WoG/Era )

b) The Lineups of all castles will be changed, and of course the balance will change

c) There will be new campaign

d) New campaign heroes (captain obvious to the rescue xD)
And more stuff

So right now i will show you some screens right now, the modification is still in state "work in progress" so, some things still can be changed...:

These screens are showing that almost all graphics are in the game. As you saw the heroes for the Abyss Faction are ready as well. I have wrote a lot of scripts and i need twice more scripts to go xD. Of course, everything can change. If you will have any ideas about changing something etc. then say it without any problem. I will listen to any suggestions and i will consider them when i will have free time. Right now i will do quick Q&A before you will ask any questions .

Q&A

1) Are you creating this mod on VCMI?

No, i have changed the platform to good old Era/WoG. Mainly because it's easier for me to do things on WoG/Era than on the VCMI. I need more time to learn about the VCMI. Plus VCMI is still unstable and it's crushing a lot when i'm trying to do some things. So right now i will be doing stuff on WoG/Era .

2) Will you create the version for VCMI?

Maybe in the future when i will learn enough about VCMI .

3) What kind of town will Abyss replace?

Abyss will replace dungeon.

4) Are you continuing the work of the Mitlandy/Axolotl?

Yes. Axolotl have done most of the graphics and without his work i wouldn't be even able to start this project (so all credits to him). Mitlandy have done the VCMI version but shortly after the second version of the mod he abandoned it. I was really upset because i liked the town look and the idea about that town. So i decided to "ressurect it from the grave" and put it in to the WoG .

5) What about the plot of this Modification?

Action will take place few months after war beetwen queen Emilia and Gavin Magnus. Emilia Scouts have discovered the portal in the north part of the Great Arcan's Kingdom. There are the rumors that these portals can lead to the old world. So Emilia have decided to sent few heroes to check if the gossips and rumors are real...

This is very badly written plot, but still it can be changed to a better/worse (pick one )

6)What about the graphics, will you mention their authors when the mod will come out?

OF COURSE I WILL- this guys have done most of the work and i'm just poor programmer who decided to do mod with these creatures . Yes i will mention authors in the credits with the bold font and the underline. Plus they will be always in my hall of fame .

7) When the mod will come out?

Well i can't answer this question, mainly because... i don't know xD. I'm working alone at that project, and i'm trying to do it as fast as i can. If i will not encouter any kind of problems when i will do this mod, then maybe it will be released at the end of the may/at the beggining of june. But the release date of the mode is under the huge question mark, so don't ask me questions like : "if it's ready?" or "when i can play it?" xD

I will try to do my best users but what i need most is the users support, ideas and suggestions. What to change for mod to become better. Because this is my first mod, and i don't want to release it with bugs/errors etc. Of course criticsm is welcomed and all the suggestion and ideas too ...

To be honest it's Nightmare from WoG . I used some scripts to put him along the heel steeds to the Inferno Town. He will be lvl 5 in Inferno.

Axolotl planned to replace Dungeon, so only Dungeon buildings were redrawn and made to DEFs.

Thank you salamandre . Well don't be suprised if you will find a lot of japaneese/chineese references in this mod . I gave some creatures and heroes japaneese/chineese names (for example the hero Ran which was showed on the screen). Mostly because when i was doing the abyss town, i was thinking for most time about the sanctuary town from HVI and the japaneese culture (i'm a huge fan of japaneese/chineese art ). But still thank you salamandre .

I didn't said that in the previous post, but the whole music will be changed in this game, only few original tracks will be left in the game. Most of the tracks will come from the heroes 2/4/5/6 and even diablo . I was thinking of giving the Fortress this theme the theme that you are listening when you're in the jungle in DII. But i don't know if this will fit in/match the town theme . What do you think?

Yes i agree Macron1, axolotl from the beggining wanted to replace dungeon with this town (this was the plan from the beggining), but after he abandoned project the Mitlandy showed up, and he ressurected it, and created a version for VCMI. I'm continuing work of Axolotl and i will release version for "more stable heroes"

I can spoiler that the Abyss Commander will have different spell then then the brute, i think i will give to him protection from water. But still i don't know how to change specialization of commanders

Now about the mod, i have worked recently on castle. When i was playing heroes vi i loved the whole theme with the sun crusaders, inquisitors etc. So i decided to create a new line up of castle based on the Light creatures, elementals, sun crusaders etc. Here is the line up :

1) Pikeman - Halbardiers
2) Sharpshooter - Elite Sharpshooter
3) Fanatics - Paladins
4) Priest - Inquisitors
5) Sun Riders - Sun Crusaders
6) Messengers of Haven - Celestials
7) Sun Birds - Avatars of Light

Special Ability of all creatures that belongs to this castle :

Loyal- All creatures in this castle are immue to mind spells.

Children of Light (Only Avatars of Light) - Creature is under the bless spell and prayer spell (both of these are on the basic lvl)

Here are some screens :







Of course, it is not ended. But i'm really close to finish with this castle . As you can see, creatures in this castle are strong, Avatars of Light are the main danger in this castle, they have incredibly high attack and defense + the ability children of light makes them deadly foe.

But town have a few weakness :

1) The cost of all buildings went dramatically high (for example, angels training ground cost 15 15 15 15 15 15 150000). So yeah this castle relies mostly on all resources. Especially on Mercury and gems, because these are the resources that are used by celestials and avatars of light.

2) Lower grow rate

3) Creatures may deal a lot of dmg, but they will lack hp or defenses

For now on that's it, if i will have more news or something i will definetly give a call. Right now i'm working on rampart and the abyss so in the next post u will get more information about these 2 factions .

Man this is crazy. I loathed Heroes 6 Haven, but in your ERA version, it looks totally awesome !
Iíve always said about Sanctuary, the only problem of that Town is that it appeared in Heroes 6. Looking forward to your modification of Rampart ?

Well about the abyss, yes it can remind of the sanctuary from HVI, i even have putted this OST to the gamemainly because this music incredibly reminds me of the water, creatures under the sea etc. But i was thinking about this music too : The eldar stronghold theme from the DoW this is gives you thrilles, it brings you a lot of weird emotion (what kind of secrets are under the water), and the ending is just epic. So i can't decide which one pick .

Ok i will show right now 3 castles that are almost done (i need to fix balance but most of the work are done)

Abyss :

This town is will not be as fast as sylvan but it is incredibly good at close combat. It is mediocre in sieges (1 shooter, 3 flyers) but stats of creatures + their abilities reprimands? everything. So now let's see the abilities of creatures in abyss.:

Deepwater unit - Deepwater units have basic protection from water applied

Abysall - Same as deepwater unit, but instead of basic protection it gives advanced protection from water

Crab Hammer - Special ability of Abysall Crabs, they have a chance to deal double damage (aka death blow)

Pros of the town :

- Incredibly good at close combat
- Very good magic heroes
- Buildings good grow of the creatures

Cons of the town :

- Town is worse when it comes to sieges
- Only one shooter
- Town requires ammo cart as fast as possible (mainly because the only shooter in the town have only few shots)
- Can be easily countered with spells like slow.
- High cost of dwellings

Let's show some screens :







And rampart aka sylvan

This town... is fast . This town relies mostly on speed and buffing units, it is better at sieges than before (2 creatures with shooting + 2 creatures with flying), the lineup of this town is very very very simmilar to the lineup of the Sylvan town from the HV (only 6 lvl creature is different)

Lineup is :

1) Nymphs -> Sprites
2) Elvish Sisters -> Elven Priesstess
3) Hunters -> Arcane Archers
4) Hierophants -> High Druids
5) Unicorns -> War Unicorns
6) Dragondauthers -> Gorynyches
7) Green Dragon -> Diamond Dragon

Abilities of creatures :

Elven - Creatures that are elven have basic protection from earth and shield

Dragon - Dragon creatures have breath attack, flyes, have some immunities etc.

Arcane Shot - Ability that have Arcane Archers, this ability allows gives them "no obstacle penalty"

Screens :






Pros of the town :

- Good at Sieges
- Really fast Units
- "Healers"
- Great shooters

Cons of the town :

- Most of the creatures are squishy (Sprites, Elvish Priesstess, Archers...)
- Can be easily countered with mass slow (This town heavily relies on speed)
- Dwellings costs are mediocre

Tommorow i will try to show Inferno, Tower and stronghold (i need to end writing the scripts for the tower doe) i have almost finished .

Sorry for not posting in a past few days but i was spending most of my time on this mode and i wanted to fix crashes etc. The good thing is that almost all town lineups are changed (i have few ideas of making stronghold look like the egyptian town, vide bastion town, but i need few more hours to do that.

So right now i change the "to do list"...:

To do (Work for NOW!)

- Fix Balance (some of the creatures are a little bit op at this moment)
- End portraits of the creatures
- End writing scripts for new Tower and Stronghold heroes
- End the campaigns (i have started creating the campaign which involved one abyssal hero and one ranger hero, i will talk about this in the later part of the post)
-Stronghold lineup (i think i will end this tommorrow)

So right now i will show you some screens, 3 will be from the campaign, the others from the regular Gameplay :

CAMPAIGN








The "First" Campaign will be called "The Forest and the Tide". The main plot of this campaign will be finding the captain of the pirates, which attacked Verna's people and get revenge on him. Verna in this campaign asked for help the ranger named Rylanthai, former sharpshooter under the gelu command now the general of queen Emilia's Army. He is going to help Verna, mainly because he ended up messing arround with necromancers and deamons in the previous campaign.

Campaign will have 8 missions, each of this mission will give you more information about your main target and your destiny. The difficulty increases and i will make sure that last mission will be incredibly hard .



Inferno

Ok, so inferno is going to have the campaign as well. I don't know the name for it yet, but the main plot will be about Lamia, one of the best spy's that queen emilia have in her kingdom. Lamia's quest will be difficult, she must discover the deamon strenght, their plans and everything after the reckoning. This taks will not be simple for this beatifull sorceress, even is she was one of the Eofol generals in the past.

About the town, inferno will be very agressive town, it will have great offensive creatures. It will also be better durning the sieges than before (2 flyers, 2 shooters), but they can be slowed down by using weaking spells such as slows and curse (these are the way to go with inferno). The cost of the buildings is Mediocre so this town will be doing great in mid-game.

Lineup of Inferno :

1) Imps - Familiars
2) Gogs - Magogs
3) Fire Warrior - Fire Salamandre
4) Succubuss - Succubuss Mistress
5) Hell Steed - Nightmare
6) Pit Fiend - Pit Lord
7) Devil - Devil Lords

Commander : Occultist

Screens :





Tower

Tower became a dwarf town . It's lineup is based on the HV Fortress lineup. Creatures here are tough, they're having a lot of hit points but they are slow, so practically new Tower can easily be defeated with towns such as Sylvan. But the town also have lvl 1 shooter which can really help in the early game. Titan Kings are late game creatures + the Avatars of Fire will make tower a deadly opponent in the late game phase.

Lineup :

1)Dwarven Sharpshooter <-> Dwarven Flamethrower
2) Dwarven Warrior -> Guardians of the Mountain
3) Dwarf Gladiators -> Elite Gladiator
4) Bonebreaker -> Berserker
5) Ice Sorceress -> Ice Enchantress
6) Titan Warrior -> Titan King
7) Fire Bird -> Avatar of Fire

Commander : Vestal

Screen :




The main story of the Tower will include few things :

1) Helping Verna and Rylanthai passing the border of Dwarf Kingdom and Former Tatalia

2) The war beetwen the Dwarfs and United forces of Necromancers and Deamons

3) The civil war in the "Bear Claw" clan

4) And few more things (don't want to spoiler to much

5) The campaign will be Called "Thorvald Choice"

Conflux (Aka Paradise)

Conflux have changed to the Paradise town, a town with mythical creatures and dragons. This town is going to be even more broken then before . This town is the best town in the entire game when it comes to sieges (6 flyers, 1 shooter). but the growth in this town is mediocre (screens doesn't show that but it will change tommorow ). Plus the dwellings cost will be high, so this town is going to be late game monster.

Lineup :

1) Apprentice - Silver Mage
2) Griffin - Royal Griffins
3) Pegasus - Valkyries
4) Druids - High Druids
5) Unicorn Dragon - Rainbow Dragon
6) Acid Pheonix - Nature Pheonix
7) Fearie Dragon - Azure Dragon

Commander : Naturalist

The story for this town is not finished yet , plus i don't want to spoiler to much to you guys, but i can say, that this town is going to have one of the hardest campaigns in this mode (so good luck xD)



Fortress - aka Harbour

Fortress have changed to the pirate town, all these creatures are conected with pirate theme etc. This town will have new heroes + new model of heroes on map (new models will be the same as the pirate models as in the HoTA for now, but they will soon change as i will figure out what to do with them ). This town will mostly reliable on speed (as Sylvan) and the "phase of the game", because this town can be called early/mid game town. It will have advantage over castle and tower in the early game, but it will be knocked out in the late game by the Paradise, Tower and Castle.

The lineup for this town is...:

Sea Nymphs - Sea Sprites (These defs are placeholders, i will change them really soon)

Pirates - Sea Wolfs
Wenches - Sea Witches
Marids - Viziers
Nix Warriors (Claw Warriors) - Nix Leaders (Claw Leaders)
Sea Serpents - Leviathans
Water Deamons - Avatar of Ocean

Commander : Navigator

The story of the town will be placed few weeks after the death of Johnatan "Bull's Eye" King (SPOILER! : The pirate which will be killed by Verna and Rylanthai in the campaign "The Forest and the Tide"). The Pirate's will be searching for the treasures that King have lefted + they're going to avenge their leader, by finding his killer. If they will succeed? We don't know...

Screen :



As i the previous posts said, all the credits go to the graphics which created these beatifull creatures (Axolotl, Alexander...) without them i wouldn't be even able to start this mode, you guys rock and you will always be my Heroes .

Tommorow i will show the lineup of the Stronghold and i will tell you more things about the Stronghold Campaign, Tower aka Fortress Campaign, about the Paradise Campaign and the Castle Campaign...

Ok this time is going to be less screens and more talk. Mod is not dead i'm still working at it and still i'm spending a lot of time on it. But few things have changed in this mod...:

1) Lineups - I have decided to change lineups a little bit so these are the changes :

1) Castle :

Changed the theme of whole castle to the Dark Inqusition theme, with a lot of machines and steampunk theme (If you have ever played Warhammer 40 000 Dawn of War, and if you have seen the Imperial Guard then castle will have theme like IG from DoW).

This is new lineup of castle :

1) Militia -> Guardsmen
2) Arbatlist -> Elite Arbatlist
3) Alpha Griffins -> Delta Griffins
4) Inquisitors -> Deamon Hunters
5) Exorcist -> Penitent Engine
6) Juggernaut -> Hellfire Juggernaut
7) Sun Bird -> Avatar of Light

Commander : Lieutanat

New Abilities of creatures :

1) Mechanical -> This creature is immue to all mind spells, all morale effects and they're reducing the damage that is dealt to them by spells. But  they also can't be ressurected or animated.

2) Children of Light -> Avatars of Light are under the following spells :

- Bless
- Prayer
- Fire Shield

Also this creatures hate Devils/Archdevils

3) Blessed by Holy Light -> Special ability of Inquisitors, this ability gives them basic Fire shield and basic Bless.

This town will be mostly focused on agressive mid-late game. Costs of buildings will be placed in "mid-tier cost" so that means that some of the buildings will be high costed, some of them not.

About heroes i don't know. Maybe i will change some, but for now i know for sure that they're 2 heroes that are going to be changed :

Ingham will be changed to Faren, his speciality is going to be named "Gheist Honored Monk" (Smells like MtG reference incoming )

Edric will be replaced by Albert, and his specialization is going to be Militia instead of Griffins, mainly because Griffins are placed now in conflux.


2) Rampart

Rampart will also have 3 new heroes, they will replace the following one :

Ryland -> Will be replaced by Sullys :




Her specialization are going to be Pixies and Sprites, mainly because there are no Dendroids and Treants in the Rampart + Ryland was IMO unbalanced hero for Rampart (Leadership + Diplomacy is op combo IMO)

Her skills are going to be :

- Leadership
- Instead of Diplomacy i recommend to give her Offence/Resistance (What do you think?)


Aeris is going to be replaced by Eldar, Eldar will have the specialization in Green Dragons/Diamond Dragons. Same problem with Ryland, plus druids will get strong hero because this class was nothing special to be honest, it have some great heroes like Algar or Eleshar, but most of the heroes are having specialization like "Cure" or "First Aid Tent". So this is a straight buff to this class.

Skills :

- Wisdom
- Air Magic (Instead of Scouting)



And last but not least Ufertin is going to be replaced by Sevli, his specialization is going to be the same as Mutare had so dragons. Same with aeris, dwarves are replaced by Elvish sisters. I know that this can make Rampart a little bit broken by giving it 2 heroes that are having dragons as a specializations, but i will make sure that because of that theyre going to start with less points (for example, Sevli is going to have 1/1/1/0 instead of having 2 points in attack/power/knowledge/defense).

His skills are following ones :

- Resistance
- Pathfinding

Tower :

2 changes in this town :

-> Titan Warriors and Titan Kings are going to the 7 lvl
-> New creatures that replace Fire Birds/Avatars of fires, they're Dragon Golems (Heroes IV style yay! ^^) (Here is graphic of them) :



+2 new graphics that will replace models of Ice Enchantress and Ice Sorceress

Inferno :

Inferno will also have a little changes in the Lineup :

So here are 2 changes :

1) Salamandres and Fire Warriors are out of the town, they're replaced by Werewolfs and Alpha Werewolfs

2) New hero that will replace Rashka, Amir will replace Rashka mainly because there is no efreet in the caslte. Amir will have specialization in Heel Steeds.

Necropolis

Here few changes as well :

Zombies replaced by Dark Zealots
Spider Priestess and Spider Queens on 5 lvl (Vampire and Alpha Vampires (Original Names rulez) on 3 lvl and Liches and Lichmasters on lvl 4)
Ebon Knights, and Death Lords replace Avatars

Abyss

- No changes here, only fixed the problem with dwellings on map

Stronghold, changed to a town with desert theme, this is new lineup :

1) Sand Ghosts -> Sand Spirits
2) Desert Warriors -> Desert Leaders
3) Camel Rider -> Camel Champions
4) Sekhemet Priestess -> Sekhemet Incarnation
5) Sand Hydra -> Sandstorm Hydra
6) Anubis Fighters -> Anubis Warrior
7) Desert Dragon -> Acid Dragon

Also heroes have changed

The history of new stronghold will not be connected with the new story of this mod, story will be taking place in Antagarich, King of the kingdom have passed away, lord named Ksendres wants to become a king but first he will need to defeat all his foes and get the blessing of the gods of his people to become the king

Fortress, aka Harbor

Nothing changed here as well, the only thing have have changed is that i fixed the problem with dwellings here as well

Conflux, here this town is going to have some changes :

1) Changed 1 lvl creature
2) Acid Pheonixes and Nature Pheonixes changed by Seraphs and Celestials, mainly because i don't wanted to make this game (Only pheonix and dragon creatures on higher levels), so Seraphs and Celestials will replace those pheonixes, here is their defs :




3) Heroes will be changed as well, but only might heroes, magic heroes will be the same. Magic heroes will mostly have creatures as specialization, here are they :

Frill (Replaces Pasis) - Generates 1 Mercury per day
Edon (Replaces Kalt) - +2 speed to all creatures in this hero army (Sir Mullich specialization)
Lacus (Replaced by Accalia) - Griffins
Calin (Replaces Erdamon) - Pegasus
Roul (Replaces Monere) - Druids
Erevan - (Replaces Ignissa) - Rainbow Dragons
Earanor (Replaces Thunar) - Azure and Faeri Dragons

Some of these heroes can be broken but, town itself will have low growth with creatures.

About release date of the mod, i can say that i'm in the finishing phase, i have finished half of the portraits (small and huge) + i have done half of the adventure creatures, i think i will be done with them within 3 days (i'm hoping so)

Here are the only things that are left :

-> Finish Campaign
-> Check the balance of all towns (play them for a while)
-> Check if everything works properly

I think i will be done with it in the next month but i don't promise the date of release, mainly because i'm screwed (sorry for language) really hard in may, i have a lot of things to do in may so it is possible that mod itself will be released in june.

That's it, i will be informing you about what's left/with screens etc. within 1 week. For now i depart.

Don't see a reason to place dragons/phoenixes/angels on 6-7 level.
They look equal in power, why double same creatures in 1 town?

Well as i said, final lineup is not finished yet xd.  I'm still changing some things in it, plus i'm hardly working at adventure creatures defs. I will show the final lineup 2 weeks before the launch date of mod, plus those creature are not equal in power trust me Macron, some things have changed comparing to these screens showed few days ago . I will try to show some screens on 4th may. Right now the biggest deal to handle are the heroes specializations and the abilities of creatures. I have almost ended up messing around with adv defs (only 5 more to go xd). And i have fixed all dwellings on map. The story for campaign is ready as well, In my next post i will spoiler a little bit about story of each of the factions.

Ok so quick info, before someone will think that i had abandoned mod or it is dead. No, mod is still alive, but currently i have stopped working on it. Mainly because in May i have a lot of studying and i want to spend more time on studying for exams then doing mod. So after 2 June i will start working again on this mod.
