Best way to create a new unit
Im trying to create my first unit, i want to make my own new towns, i already got DefTool and MMarchive, what i want to know is how to make the units, like i need to manually draw each .bmp on photoshop? cause that would be crazy i would had to draw the same unit 72 times on dif positions and i cant draw at all lol what i could do is take a nice dragon someone made and make it move, creating the .gif for .def, but how do do this? i would need a program that take a 2D draw of a dragon and make it 'attack' or 'move' so i can use the .bmps, is that possible?
i really would apreciate some help to start this, once i learn how to do it, im sure i have ideas to make a lot of new towns.
what im trying here is add stuff to the game not replace anything btw... apreciate some help!
Thanks!!

i agree with warmonger. 3d programs are where you want to start. i work with 2d images, only because i don't have the 3d program required to upgrade my output. 2d's good for altering pre-existing stuff, but for making content more or less from scratch, a 3d program is best.
i think it's probably more difficult, to make content more or less from scratch, using only 2d. it can be done certainly, but 3d is the way to go, especially if you're just starting out. if i had started with 3d, i might have been much better at graphics by now. maybe.

Doesn't matter how you go, either ways 2D or 3D you have to draw the model first. On paper and must be nice. If you don't know to draw then just pass your way, making towns isn't for you.

that's what pre-existing graphics(2d) and models(3d) are for. there is enough stuff out there to make anything. all you need is the continuing drive to do it.

on paper?? no man drawing with pixels is different than on paper, you can learn that but on paper you must be a artist, well anyway, i use to model tanks on 3D Max studio, but i never tried nothing even remote close to a creature body, i only work with geometrical shapes like squares, cilinders and stuff and use to UV map them with textures. Now i agree that to develop the skills to make a creature body will take sometime, but since i know the basic basic of 3dmax studio i think i can grab a Render or other lighter 3d software and try to make them OR i can get creatures from other people with their bless of course to use on my town, in any case making towns will be for me

i dont think i want to mess with 3D max studio again lol this Render is more easy? like any 3d software can produce units for HOMM3? i remeber there was called GIMP or something, MAYA, LightWave3D
Now there is this free DAZ 3D, you cant model there, but the site says u can chose from thousands of creatures and mod them at all, and them use them, so i was wandering if some of u guys used already?

you can develop talent using whatever medium. you just have to be able to progress; which a slim number of individuals can't. i think the reason why is, that they don't have the drive to continue, if they're not perfect right away. i started out as an amateur, and have become much better since then, on all sorts of mediums. practice makes perfect. or at least, progress.
