How can so many people love the Castle town?
I hope you mean YOU THINK IT"S THE BEST TOWN>..
NOt because it holds the coolest creatures...
If you think castle has the coolest creatures then burn in hell!

The Castle does not have the coolest units but it has the best units overall (ie. on average). Perhaps the only relatively weak creature in the Castle is the monk/zealot, and many fans will argue even against that. I'm not saying that the Castle is neccesarily my favourite town but i'll have to admit that it was one of the easiest to play and win with when i just started playing this game. Cheers.

All H3 towns are powerful, you just need to know how to play them and in what map type.
In XL maps (L sometimes), if allowed, I take my beloved Conflux. It can start so fast, sometimes I have conquered 2-3 towns by the time the other players have finished exploring their backyard. I don't care about elementals, never use storm elementals agains not-AI enemies anyway. Phoenix are the only thing of this town I keep in my main army after the first 1-2 months. I build out my second-third town fast and proceed with that one (hoping that it's a good one), Conflux just gets me a kick start.
Necro, when lucky, can be extremely powerful. Most of the time I'm not allowed to play the necro (same with Conflux), but I remember the good old days when I could 
Castle is an easy n00b town, good on all map sizes, no alterative ways of playing castle, great units, bores me to death because I overplayed it in the early days of H3.
Dungeon is a very potent town, vulnerable lvl 6 though. Portal is really cool sometimes. Rather expensive but very powerful.
Tower, mmm needs no comments. On randoms not always best choice when path is blocked early and resources are scarce.
Fortress, small maps killer town. Week 2 victory stuff, basilisks, gorgons, gnolls, yeeeha!
Rampart. I don't understand what people dislike about this town, it has some less useful units but some very superb ones too. Great heroes, lots 'o cash...
Stronghold. Best on mediums IMHO, nice town. Sucky lower level creatures but some great higher lvls.
Inferno. I personally dislike the heroes of this town, some great units. Necro like demon herding if lucky. Not a bad town. (Castle Gate...)

I've found that the game is horribly unbalanced. Whatever town I'm currently playing is always the pathetically weak compared to my opponent's town. The troops are overpriced and underpowered and the special buildings aren't as good. This is clearly a game balance error since I am a master strategist.

Now to my opinion...
This is my order of town strength in Heroes 3:
1- CONFLUX - this is undoubtely the best town in the game! Double Pheonixes, cool magic and powerhouse elementals rock!
2- CASTLE - strong overall, very good units.
3- DUNGEON - Black Dragons superb, great heroes and shooters.
4- RAMPART - Decent units, nice magic resistance.
5- TOWER - Oh, those titans and nagas are great, but the rest, especially the low levels, aren't, plus, too expensive.
6- FORTRESS - MGs rule! Hydras great, but weak mage guild and poor shooter.
7- INFERNO - Awesome cerebri, efreet and devils, but expensive, fragile and no low level flyers.
8- NECROPOLIS - Apart from dread knights, vampire lords, liches and necromancy (expert), this town is as weak as water.
9- STRONGHOLD - Last, because it lacks finesse in its lineup (poor lv 1-3 creatures, poor magic to blame).
There it is.

lmao, hey noobs keep posting that, its great stuff...besides from the legion skels, the dreads, the vampire lords and the power lichs necro sux!!!!
...wolf raiders aint poor ya tosser, upgraded they can be the best L2 if theres use for em...and orcs are a shooter, not a great 1 but cheap. and goblins are fodder, like most L1 lol.
to you inferno haters: you every tried rising demons from imps, gogs and other critters? you will be surprised how good inferno really is...but i guess besides devils, sultans, throngs of demons, pits that can rise em and cerberi that town is weak!!!!
coz imps suck, and centaurs rock, so rampart is so much better!!!

Atk,Def and Spd, I get one creature of each level. HP, Cost/week are I get all the creature of the week. And total resources for structure, without Fort, Tavern, and Level 1 structure.

Nice comparison, and it would be nice indeed to try and express heroes 3 in numbers. Unfortunately this can't be done. How do creatures' special abilities show on the above chart? Individual heroes, chance to get spells in mageguild? No, the towns are not compared this easily. Though I must say that it's nice to see those statistics all lined up next to each other, good work - thanks.

My question is what is your town ranking without magics and heroes. If you see, always the town isn't the same in all the maps.
The magics always is ramdon, some times Castle is a garbage only because of the mage guild. The game don't have the BEST town, depends of the random of the mage guild. Exemple: Castle have 4 levels of mage, and Stronghold and Fortess have 3, but if the 4th magics are walk water and Protection from fire, this isn't good in battle.
I'm your mode, Tower and Conflux are the best, only because their magics. With magics, Conflux is better than other:
1st - Conflux is a magic town
2nd - Conflux is the faster town
3rd - The 7th level come 4/week, and they have spd 21 the faster unit.
4th - If you have slow, tactics and armageddon it's excellent, because energy elemental, Phoenix, Magma and Magic Elemental are immune to fire.
Do u want to know more? Imps are the BEST

Yeah, right... you'd think a mediocre Necropolis would stand a chance against the dominating Conflux? Get real, I won't challenge you because:
- I don't play Heroes 3 online,
- I can only play on easy or normal difficulty against the AI.

My favorite towns were (when I played Hmm3):
1 NECROPOLIS - I beloved this town a lot ! Dread Knights, Vampire lords and especialy Power liches. It also had cool spels, like "Animate Dead".
2 TOWER TOWN - 4 words: Archmagi, Master Genies & Titans.
3 CONFLUX - One of the most powerful town against Necropolis and magical attacs ! I liked Magical elementals 
4 DUNGEON - It was a strong town (Stronger then Asylum now)
Two shooters with no melee pen. Evil Eyes, Medusas. I also liked Black Dragons.
5,6,7,8,9 I disliked other towns, especialy CASTLE.

As I was saying ...
5. FORTRESS - I like this town for its units, such as Wyvern and Gorgon ! Lack of spells.
6. RAMPART - Not bad. Grand Elves are good shooters, Gold Dragons are powerful. That's all.
7. INFERNO - This town have only one good unit - Efreet Sultan. And one good building - Town gate !
8. STRONGHOLD - I don't like this town. It has slow melee fighters. The only good thing in this town - Cyclopes.
9. CASTLE - Boring ! It is like you were playing Age of empires2 or something... And it's too holy !!! I DON'T LIKE HOLY THINGS !!!
