Some games I would like to hear from you.

Hello!

I took my time this month to select a plethora of genres and games to play and I would like hearing from you, if any of you played the games I'll list, if you enjoyed them, and other games you would suggest instead or in addition.

- Alien Isolation (and dlcs)
- DreadOut
- Half Minute Hero (1 and 2)
- Life Goes On
- Ori and the Blind Forest
- Slender: the Arrival
- The Talos Principle
- South Park: the Stick of Truth
- Tomb Raider

There are other games that I own, but that I got not around to play them just yet, but some comments would be appreciated:

- Pid
- Rogue Legacy
- Starbound

And some other, I have in my wishlist, still considering buying:

- Among the Sleep
- Telepath Tactics
- Divinity: Original Sin
- FF XIII-2
- FF IV and After Years
- Cities Skylines
- Distant Worlds: Universe

I thank your attention in advance.

I have not played many of these but I can comment on a few.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is a very entertaining RPG if you are a fan of the series.  It captures the essence of the show perfectly and some moments are absolutely hilarious.  That said, it has very limited replayability (other than going through with a different class).

Rogue Legacy is a great rogue-like 2D platformer where you can kill off generation after generation of hero trying to solve the mysteries of a castle.  I played it quite a bit and finally beat it.  I highly recommend it.

Starbound is good.  It's basically Terraria in space with various planets to explore.  They are always adding more stuff to the game, which really helps because for awhile there, it appeared almost abandoned.  Or am I thinking of Our Darker Purpose?  Hmm... Either way.

Well, i can say Alien: Isolation is absolutely fantastic (if a bit long). Like, it's nerve-wrecking and very stressful. You never feel safe and on harder difficulties the damn thing can hear the motion-tracker! Great atmosphere as well. highly recommend.

Divinity: original sin is pretty great as well. great writing and fun roleplaying with a really fun combat-system based on using different elements like electrocuting water, turning it to steam etc. recommended.

Alien: Isolation is so damn perfectly scary that I'm yet to complete it. I don't dare press the play button anymore. It's an excellent horror and an amazing homage to the original movie.

Tomb Raider is a pure thrill ride that you play through once and then put aside. Personally I found it a bit too focused on the action and would've enjoyed more puzzle solving. It's a really really good ride though.

Distant Worlds is a very expansive game and the easy modding is fantastic. It is definitely one of the better space games I own, and I would recommend it.

Thank you for the inputs so far.

I'm pleased to hear about Alien. I was long looking for a horror game that would create the building feeling or uneasiness and that would actually scare me, or at least make me jump once or twice, like Dead Space 2, and only Resident Evil before it (oh, yes, and Doom 3).

The Evil Within is mainly about gore, so the game was rather ok, but it was not what I was looking for. ^^

Edit:
FTL, Gryphs, do you have it? It's R$ 6,00 with Soundtrack (around 2 dollars) right now.

Personally obtained Gone Home and The banner saga this sale. Gone home was a pleasant little story that does a good job of using the game medium to tell it in a very unique and interesting way.

haven't gotten far in the banner saga, but also a very unique game. A TBS heavily focused on story and with a norse theme that works very well to bring out a special feel and setting. Can't say how great it is yet but enjoying it so far.

EDIT:

Alien probably won't make you "jump" per se, it's more a game that gives this perpetual feeling of absolute dread and terror. It won't jump out at you screaming or anything. Alien Isolation is all about tension. It's scariest when you know where the Alien is. When you see it. When it slowly gets closer and closer until it spots you and you know, before it even makes a lunge, that you're dead. It's never quick and that's what makes it so great.

I am afraid I do not have FTL. I have heard good things of it, but the concept never gripped me.

Divinity: Original Sin has amazingly bad inventory management which ultimately made me drop it after a few hours (you have to transfer gold between the characters if you want to buy or repair something with each one of them, for instance). The game looks nice otherwise but I'm past the years when struggling with stupid mechanics didn't bother me.

FF XIII I played 13 hours of it, still trying to like the game. ^^

MKX I may give it a try, although this is one of those games I might not ever have that much fun as I had when I played 1, 2, 3, ultimate and trilogy. And I ended up spoiling the surprises by watching those gameplay movies and fatalities, brutalities ... I'm a bit curious about the Predator.

Disciples 3 is unknown. Heard good things about it. I'm also considering Dark Souls.

Dark souls is amazing, however it requires very heavy guidence: It doesn't explain jack snow about stats and mechanics beyond how to move and attack. It took several hours and a friend who had already completed the game like 5 times to get a small grasp of anything. It's also not nearly as fair as you might have been led to believe. Some deaths (especially falling off cliffs) are not fair due to pretty crappy environmental collision and hitboxes can be very wonky. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere and world-building and easily the best 3d non-metroid metroid game. If you get it for PC, check what mods are needed because the port is not very good (but reccomended due to blightown)

Well, first impressions on:

Ori and the Blind Forest - pretty neat, beautiful, touching, good ost and the mechanics are fun. I'm rather impressed by the artistically beauty of those graphics, not overdone or overwhelming. And it's not an easy game either. I'm having a better time now that I'm using a controller. Before that, I died in some easy parts. I might have died 160 times already. ^^ The part to escape from the flooding in the tree was awesome. Died almost 30 times there. Although, right now, I feel like I have explored everything possible, except the part that I keep the game going.

Tomb Raider - kinda fun, well made and it feels like I have tons of things to do and many places to explore, returning to places I have partially explored (Ori also has this role). Although the Tomb Raiding subject, so far, is a bit subtle. It's more like survival and I only feel the nostalgic air whenever I start going into a secret tomb to unravel its secrets, but nothing seem too hard to grasp. Some action scenes are quite amusing.

South Park - funny and engaging. It does feel like playing a giant episode and character development looks pretty nice, much nicer than H7 will ever be, sad to say.

Life Goes On - enjoyable and simple. Getting killed is necessary to keep going on and some quick thinking is necessary to analyse the whole scenery and get done with it before the time expires. I feel like the game is also short, maybe too short for the cost.

Among the Sleep - a bit scary if played with sound. Without it, you won't feel any dread at all. And it is a short game. I only bought due the sales, because I don't feel like it should cost that much otherwise. Some say that it can be finished in around 1h, easily done after playing the whole game a first time, because most of the delay is due caution and hesitancy. I have been going slow all the while though, so it's almost reaching 3h and I think I'm near the end.

After finishing Among the Sleep, I'll probably play the indian horror game DreadOut. I'll leave Alien when I get the nerves and time to devote solely to it. ^^
