Please point me to install instructions and list of mods

Hi,

Newbie question, apologies: I am terrible at searches and am having trouble finding the answers (which I'm sure must already exist).  So I'd really appreciate it if you could please point me to the links to the simplest version of the answers to these - thanks

(I posted in the new user location of the forum, and it was suggested I try asking here.)

- List of mods that are sort of like the commercial expansions - include new campaigns or maps, perhaps to highlight new features.  In other words, not just new features, but new campaigns or maps to play along with those.  There's a great thread listing a few mods in the new user area, but I was looking for a list that fits the approach I mentioned here.

- How to install those.  Some of the threads I've been looking at get a little complex, and I was hoping for simple - which ones require some prerequisite install, the best download location when there is more than one, etc.

(By the way, if a choice of links, I happen to prefer zip/rar/etc-based installs for purposes of better controlling the install process, multiple installs, etc.  If not, then a typical exe installer is fine.)

I had a few related questions, but this is probably enough for now.

Thanks - I'd really appreciate any recommendations

I wonder how is so hard to find the way through stickied threads, but anyway, since your previous request in new comer thread specifies WoG:

1) Go to Era II thread and install it (instructions in main post). Era is latest wog.
2) Go in Era mods thread and download any you like. Double click on executable, it will install in your Heroes III directory.

Compatibilities: in general, a mod/map will not work with another mod/map. But you can use as many other mods as you want, from graphics, interface and cheats area.

You have also HoTA expansion. One additional town with its own creatures and heroes, + fixes to gameplay. With its own thread too.

Prerequisites for both: Heroes complete edition.

Hi,

Thanks, I appreciate it.  I'll give that a try and let you know if I have more questions.

As per your question "I wonder how is so hard to find the way through stickied threads" I'll attempt to answer your question:

- First of all, I want to be very clear that I by no means want to offend anyone who has put work into all the detailed information posted here (I'm a strong believer in detail and often am myself accused of writing too much detail into my own technical documents and emails and such).  But I would humbly suggest that perhaps there is still a little more that could be done in summarizing and organizing some very basic information for those of us who are very new to this site, and being understanding/patient with questions such as mine here.

- I appreciate the threads that are there to help explain everything, those stickied ones included.  That said, the main issue is that there are a lot of very, very long and detailed threads and someone who has been around a while probably already knows what they are looking for and so can "zoom in" on the information of interest (topic names or information within those topics).  In other words, I think it probably seems easy to find because they know what they are looking for already.  For me, as a newbie to mods for this game, I clicked on each of them and there was an overwhelming amount of very interesting information that probably will be extremely helpful as I gain experience working with them, but nothing that was obvious in answering my immediate, far more basic questions.

- I could spend even more time pouring through various threads, but I figured asking someone who already knew would be a very reasonable alternative and a much more productive approach.  There's a point where it makes sense to stop reading simply ask the experts.

- Also, please understand that I've been around the block a few times with mods for other games (even written a few for another game), but never dealt with mods for this one and do not know anything about the specifics of how they have been dealt with in this case.  So, despite having a background with mods, it is still new territory for me.  I imagine it may be even more complicated for people who have never dealt with mods at all.

Thanks, and I really appreciate your help
