But what about more restricted Factions like Academy, Haven, Fortress and Inferno?

Necropolis, Stronghold, even Sylvan can be made diverse and easier to find units, but the above i said are hard to do so. Especially if we go outside Ashan universe.

Any ideas about mythological units that could fit those factions while also stating what tier they might be?

I don't really care for Haven, but the first post has a couple of alternate-options for Haven. For all I care this all-good town is deleted from the series however, never cared for humans in a fantasy game.

Academy is mostly a desert based town with magic involved, there are tons of magical and desert creatures you can use for that.
The best start is by replacing that annoying, utterly boring Iron/Stone Golem with a Sand Golem or Seitaad. Strange sand creatures are a Sand Shark named Tsemaus or Karkadann. There are many forms of Djinn also too choose from. However this town would be easier to create if it are neutral and evil creatures living in there, because good-creatures (which are cool) are very hard to find in mythology.

Mythology has tons of demonic horrors, one more terrible than the next. If you cut the fire-fetish from Inferno you can come up with lots of cool demons that could work together.


I'm too lazy to post much right now, but I have copied this list of groups of creatures from myth, sorted by create type.

Every creature has a type, there are many types of creatures, and even more sub-types of creatures, for now I only do the main type of the creatures.

UNDEAD - More dead than alive, these creatures arise from their grave to terrorize man-kind once again, while most undead a vengeful creatures and hateful enemies, some undead are neutral or even friendly.

DRAGON - Dragons are reptilian creatures and they have many sub-groups like the weaker drakes, the normal dragons which are much more powerful and the extreme powerful and ancient wyrms rule above all other dragon types. Reptilians and Dinosaurs are also dragons, but of a very different class. (in my world reptilians are all dragons, they aren't with the beasts) It is said that Dragons and Reptilians are among the oldest of creatures in the universe.

PLANT - While most plants are non-intelligent feeders and non-threatening to other life forms and most of them act as food for other creatures, some plants turned the tables around and started to hunt for the creatures that otherwise ate them. CHIMERAE - Closely related to Beasts, these bizarre creatures combine the features of all types of beasts, vermin and even dragons. Chimerae creatures are often more intelligent than beasts and they are more cruel as well, while some Chimerae only combine two animals, others combine three or even four beasts into one horror.

ABERRATION - Too bizarre to be beast or humanoid, then it is a Aberration. These horrifying creatures have bizarre habits, looks and feeding methods. Many of them come from other realms and ended up on Earth by accident or by otherworldly portals. Many other creatures call them Aliens. Some aberrations however come from Earth and are born there, but they are still too bizarre to be classified under another group.

ELEMENTAL - Creatures created from the four main elements, fire, water, air and earth, or a combination of those are known as Elementals, there are many sub-types of elementals as there are also elementals based on darkness, light, fear and even emotions or raw chaos. Many elementals are shapeshifters that can take a (fake) fleshy form to confuse their prey or enemies. Elementals are very hard to kill with normal weapons, and it often takes magic or magical weapons to take these creatures out.

TITAN - The first creatures were probably the Dragons and the Titans. They are among the last creatures you face and the personal protectors of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the Beast of the Apocalypse and rival them in strength ,every encounter with them feels like a mini-boss fight.

Yeah, I'm with Rakshasa92 on those, fantasy humans who are analogies of medieval Europe are irredeemably boring, desert-dwelling wizards have a whole lot of options, and so would demons if they dropped the whole "let's set fire to the world" thing. NWC might have made good games, but the cop-out they made with the humans, and later the demons was just really lame.

Haven could become a witch hunter town, with humans that focus on hunting monsters and demons and less with angels and holy stuff.

Their units could also be monsterous creatures they tamed to hunt demons/monsters for them.

It could be nice for a change, i've seen the Crusader & co, angel and griffon by now, time for others creatures.

Regarding the "witch-hunting" Haven

One could also keep Angels- but make them into badass Avenging Angels. For example, in one of my old Haven proposals, even though it's set in Ashan, I proposed the Nemesis (plural: Nemesii, upgrade is called Azrael- after the reputed name of the Angel of Death in Judaism and Islam). Basically, it's a cloaked Angel, it's face hidden by the robe (similar to Diablo's Angels), wielding a giant scythe and having several wings with eyes set in them. So Angels can also be nasty and part of the witch-hunting team.

BTW- that was my "dark/savage Haven" line-up:

Core: Sentinel, Archer, Wolf

Elite: Cavalier, Witch Hunter, Peryton

Champion: Wolf Knight (gigantic warriors with the ability to transform into werewolves), Nemesis
