Hi,
I appreciate your concern about the project, but I assure you that we have not abandoned it. I know that you have not heard from us for a while, but it doesn't necessarily mean we won't be finishing it sooner or later. Sometimes you need to take some time and have a break from modding for a while
For now I can tell that we will introduce first version of alternatives for sure, as for the rest of our plans it all depends on team enthusiasm.

With first prototype of VCMI map editor released, Oasis is progressing as well, though for now it is more technical than eye-candy thing, so nothing to show yet.

I would really like to see Paladin and advanced version of Halfling.

Actually we have abandoned idea for siren as an Cove alternative. We are focusing more on original NWC towns, so HotA town is a very low priority on our list. Instead, Siren is going to be neutral unit with its own dwelling.

Succubi def is ready, you can post some ideas for dwelling, as we are still not sure what should we make. Don't forget that she is 4lvl unit, so preferably her building should fit the place of demon dwelling.. although it is not always possible (imagine Paladin dwelling for 7th Castle in a sky instead of angels lol)

Actually we are thinking about releasing alternative units gradually. It is not sure thing yet, but maybe you won't have to wait that long for first results.

sounds effects work can be time consuming, but if you're not in a hurry, i can help. i have a couple free days during the week, and i've worked on sound effects for a handful of creatures.

What about the dwelling from H7 ?
and about the sound effects what about talking the sounds effects from H5, H6 and H7 ?

Nephretes, that's good to know!

The reason I was asking about Halfling is that I am currently using it as a town recruit in my own mod, The Glory of War.

In my mod, Halflings have an upgrade, which is the same animation but recolored. It would be nice to have a slightly different animation to use for the upgrade. That's why I asked if you're still are working on it.

If it's not too much trouble I would really like to see this done and available to me, regardless If you plan to use it on your mod, because I think it would fit in my mod very nicely, since your work seem nearly professional.

As for the Paladin, I would really like to use it as an addition to Castle. In my current version of my mod (the one I am currently working on) I made Queen Catherine upgrade Swordsmen and Crusaders to Paladins. The best def I currently have for that is a recolored and kinda upgraded version of Crusaders. That's why I would really like to use your version.

I sincerely hope these two will make it to the final cut of your mod. However, If they don't I would like for you to consider sharing their defs with me (and indeed with all HC) so that I can finish my latest version of my mod as well.

Thanks for suggestion, will pass your idea to team (if they don't read this topic already).
Reusing sounds is an option, but it is not always a thing due to different animations. Will see how it goes.

@Hero of Light
We said it already, we don't mind seeing our defs in different projects as long we get credits for that

Halfling doesn't have any animation yet, it's just a static model now. Improvements to existing units is rather more of a distant thing, as we are focusing on alternative and neutral units... so unfortunately I won't wait for it if I were you.

Paladin should be in a first release if everything goes nicely.

i worked on sound effects for all the Forge creatures for my Stronghold/Forge swap, for Axolotl's evil trees/naga tanks/juggernauts/dreadnaughts/tentoslimuses, as well as sounds for the giant scorpions and spiders, and for a Fear creature; and others i forget atm. not to toot my own horn or anything, but i'm pretty good at sound effects for creatures.

the only stipulation(not to be funny or anything) is that i'll need the defs for the actual creatures to make the sounds; for 3 reasons:

1. i need to see the creature in action, so that i can get a feel for what it should sound like to start with.

2. to get the sound/action timing right. a creature without accurate sound timing just comes across as second-rate.

3. to test the creature with the sounds, in-game; in order to make any necessary adjustments. i rarely nail the sound on the first try.

if you doubt my abilities in this aspect, i can upload a couple of the creatures i worked on, with the sounds i made for them, via hcm(since i haven't released them together yet). i assure you, you won't be disappointed by the quality of my sound work.


as for dwelling work, i'm currently having issues with the dwelling i'm working on for you atm; the textures used for the walls and roof don't particularly scale down well. i was wondering if you'd have any issues with me using parts of the dwelling you provided(keeping the shape and transition points exact), and then filling with other textures to flesh out the building. all that is needed is a little clarity, really.

i have the rest of today, and possibly part of the day tomorrow to work on anything, so let me know.

Damn, that's a lot of creature sounds. I don't have a reason to doubt your skills, but you can send me some of them if you would like

Currently in our team we don't have a person responsible for sounds, so this can also be a thing if you will be interested. Not only for alternative creatures, but whole Oasis is missing this as well :<

I completely understand where you are coming from, hard to make defs if you can't see them isn't it. Will keep you updated when we will know what is ready for the process.

Yes, tiny resolution of Heroes 3 is hard to deal with, sometimes I really hate this game because of it. Anyway from my experience with diablo 2 modding, it is still not the worst old game to make assets to (In diablo2 you have 256 colors palette which destroys not only model while scaling but it's colors as well -_-'). I have no problem with other textures as long as map dwelling have its resemblance to town version, so feel free to play with it
