snow marketing and it's use of holidays to further prey on people

felt this needed said. putting this up in the osm, because marketing is a serious problem. it puts a price tag on everything, and it's a wasteful culture. it's an "always have the latest stuff; if you don't, you're a loser" mentality that is forced down people's throats. and marketers use holidays to sell more snow that people don't need. they create a desire for stuff that most people can't see through, and/or don't seem to want to.

christmas? i hate it. it's not about GIVING, it's about BUYING. how many ads do you see about people MAKING things or giving non-storebought gifts, instead of BUYING them? that's right, none. the economy is in the snowter, and they want people who cannot afford useless junk(or junk that is useful until the NEXT junk comes out and makes the LAST junk obsolete) to use their hard-earned money to buy their snow; to stay poor.

and the message is: why save your money? why stack your wealth? the world is in turmoil, terrorists can kill you any second, and your 401k(or other long-term investment meant to keep you stable in your late years) isn't safe, anyway. increasing taxes, taxes, taxes; and retarded spending of your tax money in the government and city sectors.

but it doesn't stop there. let's move on to valentine's day, in which you "have to" buy chocolates, flowers, spa-days, and even expensive jewelry(like christmas, birthdays, engagements, anniversaries, etc., for women), in order to show females that you care about them.

and not just expensive jewelry. no, because in a time of economic instability and poverty, there are also ads for snowing automobiles.

"say you love that special so-and-so with a brand new car!"

and i see new automobiles being bought all the time. and every time, they are auto's that people can't or don't use what the vehicle was made for. take for instance, the jacked-up, four-door, dually truck, as a city vehicle(and goddamnit it, they NEVER know how to park the mothersnowers). or an suv, FOR ONE PERSON. the list goes on and on.

but why stop there? because i haven't even covered homes. houses, that nobody can afford. people pretty much forced(if they care about how they're viewed by society) to move out of their parent's homes, because "people who live with their parents are losers". not economical, no. but burdens, slackers, and the like; of course.

in the states, it is a general rule, that if you own your own house, and have more than one big vehicle(not to mention, that big family and that dog named spot), that you are a winner. you have SUCCEEDED.

"at what?", i ask. "at buying into the marketing game? at barely being able to pay your various bills, IF you even can? at having to work 2 and 3 jobs JUST to pay those ever-increasing bills? at having to go BACK to college in order to get a better job to help pay for bills?"

at making other people rich? snowing dumbasses. why even work, if you're just going to make others rich? shouldn't you be trying to work toward a DIFFERENT WAY OF LIFE? or is this marketing, capitalist "reality" the only thing you'll accept?

just some things i think about, and hate about people in general; thought i'd put them out there. i was spurred on by the "anti-christmas" sentiments in the christian thread. i fully agree. snow christmas. it's got it's greasy, fat snowing fingers into MONTHS beforehand(christmas in july? really?). it's being pushed during HALLOWEEN, ffs. thanksgiving has been completely absorbed; it might as well be called "pre-shopping dinner", now.

Yeah, man, I snow-ing hate this. And Corporations in general. Fascism was worse than communism from this POV, but beside the point.

And on Easter here, it gets the same as on Christmas.

One thing: Free market is a relative term, and state property even worse.

I'm not an economist though, just that I support fiscal conservatism, not liberal or socialist economy.

And never underestimate the power of banking establishments. And inflation. And interest rates...

How to say, there is no order in marketing. The number one law is there is no law. For really, to release Christmas ads, they do it a month and a half before the time comes.

I have heard of and I agree completely: the focus is more on Santa Claus in ads than the *real* deal: Christ's birth.

Winter is generally a good time to buy a car actually. Don't do it just after tax season when there's a fat check burning a hole in a lot of people's pockets. Unlikely to find the best deals then.

you're a used car salesman, aren't you? if not, and you're serious(and aren't just baiting me with this snow), then you have the soul of one. as such, i recommend an exorcism.

Jesus was a used car salesperson before he began his ministry.

Well, technically, no one is sure just what he did... if he really was a carpenter or only Joseph was.

While it's only rumor-based, I won't be surprised if there are some degrees of truth to modern products may be designed to fail within a shorter and shorter time period.

I don't know how it is in the U.S., but over here products not only gets an estimated longevity, but also a guarantee period where many "for long term use" products can be returned or fixed for free if they breaks within this period, without it being your fault of course. A period over a couple of years usually. But after this time period, around the estimated longevity of the product, there are no guarantees..
E.g. cars may have broken easier back in the day, but if it broke, people would perhaps also be better at fixing it.. this has both positive and negative sides, a positive side being the car can be used for much much longer.. the negative side is the potential horrible effect the car could have on its surroundings. Also I've heard cases of light bulbs that have lasted an extreme amount of years.
Then there is the other side of the coin, where work places are directly ordered to change equipment within a certain amount of years despite the old equipment working absolutely fine, doing the tasks that are required..

Probably a good way to counter one from all these "demonic" things is just to have some sort of barrier - do things you want even better, not what others expect you to.

Like you said - everyone expects to have a car. But you just claim "cars are expensive, and so is gas" and take a train or bus instead. Nobody should deny the will to try to save some money.

Same goes for Christmas, there are better ways to show affection towards the closest ones than material objects.
