I don't know if I qualify as a Heroes fan except in memory, since I haven't played them for awhile and I don't currently have any intentions on revisiting them. They're an affectionate dog from the past who I cherish in my heart, but he has since died.

Option no. 9. I spent lots of time enjoying Heroes 2-5. Relatively little time on Heroes 6. I never purchased Heroes 7. I think Heroes 2 and Heroes 5 stand out for me more than 3 and 4. Heroes 2 for giving me warm fuzzy feelings inside. Heroes 5 in terms of pure gameplay & magnificence. Until a game comes out that can be like H5 (like it, but also building upon it), the series is a ghost of its former self.

The only thing that could bring me back is the unlikely event that a new Heroes game receives a large sum of funding and then the team is able to deliver. The money is the bricks and mortar. You need testing time and fine-turning and for the game to actually go through multiple stages of revision before the final product is sent out. That isn't happening and what people are getting in the new games is a draft that might have potential, but we'll never know.

Idk, heroes 4's gameplay was weird as all hell, not necessarily 'bad', just strange, has by far the best story and I loved the hell out of the campaigns in my teen years. Heroes 3's cinematics captivated me as a child, Heroes 2 I just spammed the hell out of Warlocks and Knights, felt awed by the necros, but I had no idea what I was doing at the time. H5's campaign on the other hand seemed average at best, but the gameplay was solid I guess.

The storyline definitely went to **** in H5. For an RPG this would be a big deal, but for a game like Heroes, the campaigns really aren't that important, at least not for me anyway. I've never seen a human being praise H5 for its story before. But from a gameplay perspective, it was a fantastic game. It also had fantastic atmosphere. Great adventure map. Great towns. Great music.

I agree that H4 is the best of the franchise for story. H3 is the most well-rounded of the games and I understand why it's the most famous, but for whatever reason it doesn't leave quite as strong of an impression on me. Maybe I was too wrapped up in battle.net at the time

It left one on me, without even trying era or wog. Such a game with an evolved h5 skill system, racials, h5 amount of creature specials and an atb init system would be just the thing.

Ive played only NWC creations and I like all. I like MM I-VIII. IX dont played and I dont know. Heroes I-IV Ive played like all.
Ubi+others I only saw movies. So I cant tell. But this graphic style it is not what I like. 3D is not most important for me.
Generally all NWC M&M which I played satisfsctioned me. And I like it.

I think what he meant is that h4 was a radical slip which led to dramatic consequences. Had it be an upgraded and improved H3, maybe we could have been dreaming about a H7 using successfully same pattern. But we will never know.

If you meant Ubisoft would continue the success, then no. They also don't seem to be certain what they should be doing with the series, and then turn it into a cash cow.

But if you meant if it would be a success to let NWC and 3DO live on, I still doubt that, since 3DO was targeted for bankruptcy anyway. One could only wonder what they wanted with Heroes V. Maybe there were features that people wanted and what people didn't.

Didn't vote because Griffin Eternal has nothing to do with my playing the game - no Campaigns for me since H3. H5 TotE all the way. I still own H3 and fire it up once in a while but sadly the world is flat and the old magic has mostly left. The Music still rocks.

What I wanted was to see H5 expanded (content-wise) but made more processor friendly(turn-times). Also, I have always far preferred the folks learning to "Scale". I didn't mind have a very large Hero riding about several times taller than an arena in 2&3 but all these years later seeing the same stuff in a flat world where the fantasy-world's nature is just pretty wallpaper...nah. I want my bad guy in the mists and bogs, riding on land that has elevations and going up and down bogs in altered light. However, that is my personal vision and want.

The number one issue for me that kept me from buying & trying 6&7 is that UBI did NOT take on the full essence of the game from NWC/3DO. The first group delivered a game for everyone in the community; the last was all about campaigns and/or on-line gaming (or tried to be in a bizarre way of thinking) and did not give the "Content-Creator/fans" EVEN, the easy to use tools of the early games.

And one last thing...I immersed myself in H2, H3 and H5 (after a lot of effort in the clunky editor) "into the game" and not "into the inter-net" so I could be another little fishy tracked for other purpose. Hot-Seat was always a great treat not timewasting disappointments.

Don't be...wasn't meant as a slam since I've heard that "outcry" from younger players. Sorry for the blank text. I should have done the and then you'd known I didn't give a flip about your wording and was just stating my play-style which of course doesn't include scripted/patched campaigns anymore. (far too boring for creative minds)

Cheers

Someone please put the H6 or H7 graphics into 5 and I would like 5 as well.

More or less this!
I would just still play it. Heroes of Might and Magic 5 ToE is the best for me. But the graphics...no, just no. Not anymore!

By the way, 9) it is. But 8) is very close behind it.

Sadly looking at this list, I fall under the first option

That's not to say I consider any/every heroes game to be great. But when the new game comes out I spend hundreds of hours playing it, dissecting the game, trying new strategies and what not. And in the end I will find parts of the game I enjoy, even 6 had some charm to it. Pretty much I love this series and any new way to enjoy heroes, whether it's a crappy Ubi heroes or an awesome mod made by some fans, I'll be playing it just because it's heroes

Am I happy with the current state of the game? Absolutely not.

My rankings would be h2-3 tied for first. Maybe a little more credit goes to h3 because of mods and heroes chronicles.I always go back to these multiple times a year and it's fun as hell every time I start a game. H4 would be next, they completely changed the game yet it still feels more like any heroes then the ones Ubi has given us. I love the simplicity of h1, how it's like a heroes game that's been stripped of upgrades, hero skills, and fancy buildings. It's just pure strategy!  The last three would go 7,5, and 6. I've written enough about h7. H5's graphics are horrendous imo and so are the line ups. And H6 just sucks so it takes last place
