Hope this can help.
Problem: The computer freezes during install, or you receive an error
message (such as "*_ins error" or "An error has occurred
during the move data process") during install.
Answers: 1. Your computer may be using an older 16-bit CD-ROM driver
2. There may not be enough space on your hard drive for
temporary files to expand and/or you need to free up
resources.
3. The CD-ROM drive might be having problems with how it
buffers information.
4. The Autorun or DMA settings on your CD-ROM drive could be
interfering with the game installation.
To check and see if your computer is using an older 16-bit CD-ROM driver:
- Right-click on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Properties'.
- Click on the 'Performance' tab.
- In the Performance status box, if the File System line says, "Some
drivers are using MS-DOS(R) compatibility", you are using a 16-bit
CD-ROM driver. If you are using 16-bit CD-ROM drivers: Contact the
manufacturer of your CD-ROM drive or the manufacturer of your computer
for an updated 32-bit CD-ROM driver.
To free up Resources:
- Close all unnecessary programs running in the Background.
- Press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys at the same time to open the Close Program
window, select a program, and press the 'End Task' button. Repeat
this process until all programs except 'Explorer' and 'Systray' are
closed. Windows 98 or ME users can click on the 'Start' button, then
the "Run" option. At the command line type the word: msconfig. Click
on the "Startup" tab and uncheck all of the listed programs aside from
'Systray.'
- Keep at least 100MB free on the hard drive that the game is installed
to, or twice your RAM, whichever is larger.
- Delete all files in your C:WindowsTemp folder, and then empty the
Recycle Bin.
- If you have Norton Utilities(TM) empty the Norton Wastebasket as well.
- Run ScanDisk. ScanDisk can be found on the Start Bar by Going to
"Programs," then to "Accessories," then to "System Tools." For most
conditions, a standard rather than thorough scan is all that is need.
- Defrag your hard drive. The Disk Defragmenter can be found on the
Start Bar by Going to "Programs," then to "Accessories," then to
"System Tools." Running Scandisk before you run the Disk Defragmenter
will enable the process to run in the most effective manner.
Turn off read-ahead on the CD-ROM drive:
- Right-click on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Properties'.
- Click on the 'Performance' tab.
- Click on the 'File System' button.
- Choose the 'CD-ROM' tab at the top.
- Change the 'Optimize access pattern for' field to 'No read-ahead'.
- Click on 'Apply', then 'OK' and finally click 'Close' (you will be
prompted to restart your system).
Turn off the Autorun and DMA settings on your CD-ROM drive:
- Right click on the 'My Computer' icon and choose 'Properties'.
- Click on the 'Device Manager' tab.
- Click on the '+' sign next to the CD-ROM line so that it becomes
a '-' sign.
- Click on the line that appears under the CD-ROM line so that it is
highlighted, then click on the 'Properties' button.
- Click on the 'Settings' tab.
- Look for the Auto-insert Notification and DMA lines. If there is a
check mark in the boxes next to either of these lines, click on the
box to remove the check mark.
- Click on the 'Apply' button, and then click on the 'OK' button.
- When you are asked if you want to restart your system, choose 'Yes'.
NOTE: You can restore all of the CD-ROM settings back to normal after
the game has been successfully installed.

Admin privileges??
Hi all,
I'm unable to post a new topic on this as I haven't made 5 posts yet so I'm posting here in hopes that someone will be able to help.
Upon attempting to run HOMM IV it requests that I log in/on with Admin privileges and try again. I select "run as admin" from the drop down menu and the issue persists. I've logged onto a separate admin account on my computer and tried accessing it that way but no use. It's strange because I had this game installed on here before and had no issues. I can't recall what prompted the uninstall but for some reason this time around I'm not ADMIN enough!
Any help or advice?

Hm. Did you install it into Program Files or something similar? If yes, you should try to install it somewhere else.

I've seen Radmutants suggestion repeated in other cases as well, where installing in program folder seem to cause issues.
Myself I've had issues with saving files located in programs folder. What worked for me, was to right click and select security tab. There you should be able to find a list of what admin/various users on your pc has rights to, like saving/editing files. Try changing the settings to full access/all boxes checked for your user.
Also make sure it isn't your anti virus program that terminates program execution. I know McAfee blocks Equilibris mod for H4.

Computer Specs are as follows...
Windows 7 Professional
System:
AMD Sempron Processor LE-1300 2.3GHz
3.00GB RAM (2.75 usable)
64-bit operating system
I have the original version of the game, no expansions, original CD-ROM. Let me know if there is any other information I can give you.
I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling again into a different location and still am unable to open due to admin privileges. I took the advice of updating the game's security profile and even with every user profile being given full access I can't open the game...

Well...Not the O.S. fault that is for sure.
But, the PC machine's hardware is definitely at fault here.
One of your RAM(memory) cards is not good enough for creating a proper dual channel synchronization. That card is a very old SDRAM card of a mere 1 single GB in memory storage while the other one is at a full 2 GB of storage capability. Probably came in-box when you purchased your PC machine, right? Very highly probable. That was the case in my own city's technology stores, without the re-seller's knowledge of such problem.
Upgrading those two RAM cards will help the processing of the game greatly but, not without upgrading your main socket's processor die to a Dual core of at least 3+ Ghz for much faster processing capabilities.
Plus, not to make matters worse, your video/graphics card might no longer be properly supported for 64 bit's graphical processing. Even though this game was made way ahead of its time, it is still stuck in 32 bit mode-like interface.
Reverting back to the 32 bit only O.S. might be a huge improvement for such old game. I believe that you do have both DVDs(32 bit and 64 bit editions of the O.S. in its original packaging box). Oh yeah, about that...umm...I think that you will have to install a DVD Re-writer drive to replace that really aging CD-ROM drive.
All-in-all conclusion, I did not have such an ancient PC machine ever since buying my very old Dual-Core PC machine all the way back in 2009(8 years ago). My god...you had this machine since 2005(12 years ago), right? Since, the release of the very last Edition of Windows XP-Media Center Edition 2005 then, decided to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit by skipping the whole Windows Vista(6.0)upgrading process, did you? In other words, you are so overdue for a totally new computer, it is literally not funny. The cost of upgrading your very old machine would be at least 2 to 3 times the cost of the new one.
Here, you go, a full analysis of your computing situation, free of charge. Lucky you for having helping people like me around, aren't you?
