In-game maps with desert starting locations?
Hi folks. I'm coming back to HOMM3 after many years since playing my original copy, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest some single-scenario maps that come with the game that have a desert starting location for at least one of the players? I play the Stronghold faction usually and I like scenarios that have a starting location in that kind of environment, at least for whatever colour I'm playing as.
I own the 'Complete Edition' off gog.com, so I think I've got all the base game scenarios plus those from the expansions. Haven't had time yet to go through and check starting locations on every single map, so if anyone remembers any themselves where at least one of the players starts off in a desert type environment it'd be great to hear.

hey mate welcome to the boards, two maps which come to mind from memory alone are "Jihad" and "Sands of Blood" (although both are all desert and a bit small) lol
I will have a look if I can remember any other maps with starting deserts, I would also suggest maps4heroes where you can download a fan map as there is a huge variety of them there and sometimes higher quality than the officials cheers lol

There is a medium map named Realm of chaos where every 8 players start in their environment, and Green starts with stronghold in the desert 
Overthrow thy neighbours does it to for Tan, but the map is rather small.

Thanks verriker and AlHazin, I'll check those maps out. Also I'll have a look at that download place you mentioned verriker. If youse remember any other maps that's great too.

You could also check on mapmaking archives around the web, which you can visually check maps before downloading, and download some fan-made maps. Celestial Heavens would be a good place to start searching for some maps, I daresay. Many talented fans produced a great array of maps all over the years.

Open any map in editor. Choose terrain tool -sand, big area brush. Push and mover over all the map. 3 seconds later, you have desert map.

Well, if possible I'd prefer to find some maps that have a bit of desert that fits with the rest of the premade landscape, rather than me just painting some big patch of sand in the middle of a forest or something. I'm not good at all with the map editor so I wouldn't be the best at adding in a desert and making it look natural.

No biggy, I was of course kidding. Great maps -and there are a few dozens at maps4heroes, have all terrains in, artistically painted and fitting each other. Now, if you search for maps with only desert area as start location, you will probably skip all good maps.

Cheers for the suggestion. Yep I'll have a look at some non-desert ones too.
I was just really in the mood for something with a desert starting spot to help with the atmosphere of my favourite Stronghold faction. Plus I simply like deserts irl.
