Duel Map Friendly Semi-N00b Tourney!

After a good first run, comes the second tourney in the duel map series Anyone who is itching for a proper heroes experience among friends is welcome to join. No need to be an expert, just hop in and have fun

If you're here you probably know what this is about but if not, here is some general information on the tourney, rules and the map we will be using.

WHAT IS NEW!

Lots. For one, we will be using a patched game executable that reduces starting atb from 0-25% to 0-5%, increases mass spell casting from 50% to 90% atb and slightly nerfs artificer values. Don't worry, you can return to the original values by simply replacing the executable.

In addition to picking a magic skill of your choice for free (magic quest huts), you also have access to one random spell from the first 3 tiers of that school. That way you can easily select a non-native school like dark for dwarves or light for necro.

Army strength increased from week 5 to week 6.

Warmachines and tent have limited uses while not all races have access to triple ballista. Ammo cart has been disabled!

Replace the original exe in your game directory with this one. Default path should be: C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftHeroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East

RULES!

Faction: Mutual agreement with your opponent, random or strikeouts.

Deadlines: Games will be decided in the best of three, with a 7 day deadline.

Terrain: Players should pick a terrain that is non-native for both because native terrain gives +1 attack and +1 defense.

Match Arrangements: To avoid misunderstandings, please post your challenges here for all to see. That way I will also have a picture of what's going on.

Disconnections/Crashes/Reloads: Please use simultaneous turns and autosave. You will need one autosave on day 1 to keep your faction/spell selection safe from d/cs or crashes and a second autosave before the battle. Even with a stable net, mistakes happen and a reload may be required.

In case of d/c or crash 1) The battle should take place at the exact same spot on the map 2) creature placement will have to be the same 3) both players should make the exact same moves so as to keep the same luck/morale rolls and atb order. Keeping a replay can help.
If you cannot replay exactly or it's too much hassle, you can have the battle on a different spot to reset the variables.

Replays: Replays are obligatory to confirm the results and ensure fair play. You can send them to me or upload and post the links here. Sendspace is handy for that, no account required.

MAP SPECIFIC RULES

- Out of the 4 teleporters that lead to the magic huts and shrines, you may only visit one. You may not revisit to learn more spells.

- You may not cast empowered armageddon!

Pre-emptive: Swift-minded frenzy + Preparation makes for one happy necro. Green dragon vs nikolas game 1.


Slow Death: Decay + corrupted soil + plague tent, pick your poison. Palingenesis vs Gameslayer game 1.


Pyromancer: 5 firewalls on the field has gotta be a new record ^^ Palingenesis vs Gameslayer game 1.


Spirited: Gameslayer knows how to keep his dragons in a good mood. Morale every turn! Palingenesis vs Gameslayer game 3.


MIA: Missing in action


Remote Detonation: Detonating a crystal with the ballista to bypass deflect missile is a fun creative solution Varhagn vs Tyrael game 1.


Displacement: Seraphs harpooned across a firewall and straight into magmazilla battlerage and patriarch crossfire. Excellent move, Varhagn vs Tyrael game 1.


Anti-Magic: Non-magic academy with leadership, luck and divine guidance Nikolas, finals.

CHANGELOG

General

- Starting atb from 0-25% to 0-5%. Now 10 init units cannot play before 11.

- Random lvl 1-2-3 spells provided for the magic school of your choice. Now any faction can safely pick any school.

- Shatter quests provided for stronghold.

- Ballista 24 shots(8 turns with triple ballista), tent 5 uses. Ammo cart preserves ballista shots so it is more important than ever.

- Factions with highest ballista modifier(inferno, stronghold) cannot get triple ballista. Also sylvan due to high druid + imbue ballista carnage.

Magic

- Mass spells from 50% atb to 90%. Buffs/curses generally improved.

Units

- Fire elementals 5 shots.

- Succubus seducer gets untrained puppet instead of seduction special for a number of reasons. 1) It can be countered easier 2) You cannot have two puppets simultaneously 3) it drops unit initiative by 50%, giving time to react.

- Bash factor reduced from 1.5 to 1.2 because it triggered too often.

- Inferno no longer has access to succubi channelers. Instead it has a quest for a +3 spellpower artifact, like dwarves.

Skills

- Swift mind from +25% init to +33%.

- Tap runes now unlocked by fine rune in runelore.

- Runic machines replace refresh rune in runelore. That way dwarves can get both triple ballista and tent.

- Artificer slightly nerfed, particularly initiative(25% less) and magic protection(~10% less). Now it is allowed to use lvl 33 mini artifacts.





I would like some feedback on warmachines, destructive, artificer and the new mass spells.

Map link added. It is meant to be used with the patched exe, which can be replaced by the original at any time. Both are included in the masterpost for your convenience.

Also teleport assault is reserved for inferno, dungeon and academy, the races it was originally exclusive to. It is now unlocked by wisdom in sorcery. Reasons for the change were the map's improved army strength, a perk requirement that gave mass haste/bloodlust(now improved) and giving a guaranteed teleport to might factions.

Copy-paste over the original one, in the bin folder of the game directory. My default path is: C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftHeroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East

You can backup your original exe or get mine.

One week left for the start of the tourney! Anyone tried the map?



Meanwhile there has been an update on the exe that further tweaks magic protection and armour-crushing mini arties.

- In practice this makes armour crushing -2 at 9 knowledge and can go up to -3 at 18 knowledge. (Originally -2 was achieved at 15!) Now it is possible to focus on shattering enemy defense over time

- Magic protection is now more balanced, being 35% at 10 knowledge and 44% at 15 knowledge. Originally 44% was already achieved at 9 knowledge.

- As a reminder, initiative arties give 0.75% init for every knowledge point compared to the original 1%.


The map also received a few updates.

- Object visibility improved but still requires some rotating.

- Shatters no longer have detain, just weaken perks. All shatter special abilities are unlocked by weaken. The reason for this was that in this tourney stronghold will know what magic the enemy uses. A guaranteed shatter with all perks, the improved witch doctor's defile magic plus might over magic are an overwhelming amount of magic defenses.

- Witch doctor initiative returns to 9. They still have a chance to act before enemy hero under the commanding presence of chieftains.

This should say from 50% to 10%. Because deflaktor patcher nerf the duration. This is why you buff the curses/blesses. Also count me in the tourney.
