I think what really ought to be done to get a thing like this going is to create an open source project that is highly modular. So people can have different builds and develop it in different directions.

I have created a guild on Heroes Online for a community that finally never joined it, so I wondered if there is a Heroes Community Guild on Heroes Online, and if not I could rename my guild for the needs !

How many still play this? I left after they turned it into "pay or stay" so I am just curious. Forums seems pretty dead.

tbh, that game has so many good ideas. The battle mechanics are the most thought-provoking among all Hmm games I have played. Its business model, tho, is a shame.

There are still lots of players playing Heroes Online, its actually a turn-over like in the telecoms !
just as Znork said: it is just as good as HOMM3, it is the most advanced browser game to this point,and it use the hexes in combat (why they hadn't used the visual perspective in the AAA games just like there, that solve the problem of the creatures sizes)
The business model make dispensable the use of real money, as hero seals can be acquired by farming the weekly bosses and else...

I wrote here for making a RTS- Real time strategy from Heroes 2/3, because now the game is too long. Even if a turn is 1 minute, when play 8 players, 1 day will be 8 minutes. A week= 56 minutes( = 1 hour). So a game with mass rush, at small map, which finish for 1 week, will be 1 hour. But a game at Warcraft 3 or Age of Empires with mass rush will be 20 minutes. For 8 players, The usual game at W3 and AOE, without rush is between 40 minutes and 1 hour. But, at Heroes 3, with turn= 1 minute and 8 players, the usual game is 3- 4 hours. If somebody make a Real Time strategy from Heroes 2/3, it will be much more popular Online game, because it will be much shorter than Turn based game- 3- 4 times shorter.

I play Heroes 3 against the AI for 6-7 hours straight and the only reason I'm finishing the game is because I have a time limit of 12 months in which I must defeat the AI or else I lose.
And in all those 6-7 hours of continuous gameplay I never, for one second, believe / feel like I should just finish the game, THAT deep I am immersed into the scenery and the planning of how to defeat the AI. And you're telling me that 4 hours of play is too much???? Yeah, no thanks!
A game like Heroes 3 deserves all the time in the world, and to lose the college over it (which I did, back in 1999 when the game had come out)

That's why simultaneous turns exist. H5 online was a lot more time consuming than H3 but imagine what a delight that feature would be in H2 or H3.
