JVC: "You will have to convince Ubi for that to happen."

Basically the middle finger. Figures.

Remember, there is deep bitterness and grief from the loss of NWC and having to sell the M&M rights to Ubisoft at a dirt cheap price, only to see Ubisoft totally wreck and destroy it.

I can understand that JVC doesn't particularly feel like rewarding Ubisoft for their betrayal of his beloved brand, especially since everyone just KNOWS Ubisoft will charge an exorbitant price for it, and fully exploit the fact that is is worth a lot more to JVC than anyone else in the world.

After all, the M&M Brand is now worth almost nothing, and Ubisoft would make full use of JVCs emotional connection to Might and Magic to really abuse his need to get it back.

So he's showing that he will not be ripped open.

It may well be that he wants Ubisoft to be so desperate to sell it that they will beg JVC to buy it back for any price they can get.

He's not really giving the fans the middle finger, but 3D0 and Ubisoft.

He's not an unfeeling automaton.  Losing your company, brand and then seeing it raised as an undead abomination would have wounded him deeply.  It's no wonder he's not in a rush to give good coin to Ubisoft for their "great work" on M&M.

I really don't know where you get your history fix on that subject since you say "remember", but it must be something like "The Great and Tragic Life of JVC the Saint" or along those lines. What actually transpired according to various sources in the know like former NWC employees and JVC himself tells an entirely different story that makes your little pet theory fall flat on its face.

I intended to rewrite the facts for the Nth time to refute your idealized perception of JVC, but excuse me if I find that a bit tedious and time-consuming, so I'll just leave you with a link to one such answer I gave before, here.

Tldr: JVC was burned out and disillusioned about M&M ever since around Heroes 4 and M&M 9 and willingly gave up on the franchise after receiving offers from Ubisoft to resume work and refusing. It's easy to blame Ubisoft for its blunders in hindsight while forgetting that JVC & co. could've been there to make a difference. Ubisoft at the time proved sufficiently to be on M&M, NWC and JVC's best interests and despite being constantly refused and having to rely on their limited experience, they delivered Heroes 5 right after which is arguably one of the best in the series (the best for me).

who wouldn't be? heroes 4 was an abomination, for the most part. i'd have been ashamed to come out with homm1-3, and then dropped homm4 like a turd on the rabid-for-more-of-what-they-loved fanbase. nwc wanted to try something new, and it failed miserably. they should have stuck with the tried-and-true formula, which is what the original fanbase were fans of(whom had reciprocated the company with cash for their hard work).

homm5 appeared to me, to just be a world of warcraft rip-off; an abomination in it's own right.

if nwc had stuck with improving the graphics and the gameplay of the original layout, they would never have had to give over their baby to someone that just threw it(and the fans) out with the bathwater.

Oh wow, fred. I have just the perfect quote for you. Here, enjoy:

Tim Lang said:
There's absolutely no question that Jon was in absentia during most of MM9 and H4, and when he finally started paying attention to them, a lot of things were already too far gone. He came in right near the end of H4 and as I understand it changed a whole lot of things. Mostly for the better, I think, but that sort of late night meddling is sure to cause some resentment. As far as his comments in the interview, I thought they were a little inappropriate. He basically blamed the teams for the failures of the games. These were people who worked their butts off, working unpaid late nights and weekends for 80-90+ hour weeks while Jon was off racing cars and not showing up to work. I won't say that we were totally faultless, but when you've got someone with 20+ years in the industry, not having his support and guidance really hurts the projects.

Point is during those times NWC was a ship without a captain, and I agree with Tim Lang that to blame the team like JVC did is inappropriate to say the least. To me it seemed like you were trying to do the same thing.

Besides, in the context of JVC, I'm out here to destroy this hyperbolic vision that fans conjured up from their fantasies. The historical JVC was a brilliant man, but also a weak man that made mistakes just like anyone else.
