Yes of course there is a lot isometric games. But first is original art. Making rip cementary from H4 is not the best way. But art is relative easy. We need new game engine first with open source code. Easy for add new content.
Kkf want do big work. Game rewriting and correcting. Great idea. Old code is defective and closed. Equilibris team works show us that its far from making something like WoG. And not needed if we dont want old AI and other bugs. Best way is starting from 0 than wasting time to old failed code decrypting. Full repairing is probably impossible without real money and proffesional company.
I cant tell about way. It must be Kkf way. First must be something smallest and then we can see what will be possible. All progress is very welcome.

Well Duzeom and FrostyMuadib are also programmers. Perhaps their presence can be reawakened if this tool and other modding tools keeps progressing. I could hint both of them about this tread, and we'll see what they say.
But it's really great to finally see this kind of modding progress.
About artists, a polish fan recently asked if the Equi team still needed help for the HD mod, so perhaps we can also gather up a few artists, if they can see a purpose with their effort.

We can see a lot of detail in the arts of some heroes on the original portraits. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this was never *officially*¨released from New World Computing, but instead by old employees.




If that is so I can keep emphatizing maybe we could contact old NWC programmers/coders and see if they have a copy of the source code. With the source code you can still, and much more easily, rewrite resolutions, ai, terrains, towns, etc.

The names of programmers of NWC by that time should be public, woudn't it?

I'm for getting the source code from the old NWC programmers, we need a full source, because if we do from 0, we lose a lot, it's about secret game features that are not documented

Relax, the Source Code is not necessary.
Everything we find about the old game will help us to rebuild.
The main program of H4 is written in VC++6.0.
There is no good way to decompile.
Most of the content can be analyzed by the assembly language.
It's a bit complex but real and effective.
To sum up, the good content continues to be used, and the bad will be rebuilt

Of course knowing source code will be nice. But is it possible? Old team dont remember after 16 years!
But we need big rewriting. Another AI another castle siege with old HIII wall crushing and shooting towers another battlefield. Repeat mistakes its not needed.
If Frosty and Duzeom has time and are interesting will be great. But last time I dont see them here. But if works starts new people can join. There is some HIV lovers. Maybe they dont use eng. But if its russian or chinese we have persons who can tell with him in this languages.

And I doubt that to write source from zero, there was already a situation with a modemaker of nickname "Lost" from equilibris, he wanted to write H4 from zero, but abandoned

Actually I think the pictures were probably the original ones made by the digital artists of NWC, before resizing to fit the portrait.

Well that's just my guess, I think one could compare them with the ingame portraits and see is anything is different. But the tools used to make them seem very year 2000.

Roman, please help me investigate about the programmers and coders that worked with NWC on those times and maybe we can contact them... (even the coders would probably need access to the source code to know how to implement features in tables correctly)

Yeah they are the same as ingame portraits if you resize them. See this for example:



I downloaded some big pictures from that russian site. Some of them are a bit brighter than the ingame one but nothing else is different.

Actually the guy who designed H3-4 creatures and interface joined HC 3 years ago (Brian something) but he wasn't interested into sharing anything,  mostly selling or offering his services. He then went away as soon as he saw no one was willing to pay.

To be clear. There are thousand of old games. Many of them are older or more popular than H4. Diablo I for example. And there are only dozens with open source code - Quake for example - and there are none [maybe few] with tools written by using leaked/share SC. I am almost 100 percent sure thany many people earlier tried to ask JvC to get source code for Heroes 2 or Heroes 3. Only hex editing or massive petition for releasing SC will bring positive results. Sorry for dissapoiting you.

Ok thanks. Art is probably original. Ubi has no motivation to pay for art to nothing.
As I said big battle for failed H4 SC is nonsensible. So many things to correcting. Still we need VCMI with open code.
Former employeye dont remember because H4. exe is higer than 6.000.000 bytes! Noone can remember it! And if you want they back to it and try to decompile you must pay.
I think that even simply AI will be better than present.

Wow, I'm surprised how many of you have missee the release of the original HD versions of H4 portraits.
They were release in aug. 16 by Marzhin.
When Ubi found the old scripts for Unity and Every Dog Has His Day, they also found all of the original portraits. Marzhin had back then, offered to share these with ubi VIP fans to share with the community, but no one took the offer. I was in contact with Marzhin regarding releasing the scripts, and he share the portraits with me. They're hosted at CH as mentioned earlier.

The artist is George Almond who drew all of the (original) H4 portraits (dunno about the expansion ones). There are 4 potraits that weren't used in game.
So the release is not related to former employees.
