Gave it a try. It's a plus that you can adjust animation speed at will and the creature visuals-abilities, hero skills-artifacts-spells are fairly faithful. They have been adapted nicely to fit the tower defense gameplay. And it has the glorious h3 combat themes!

The downside is that it's a chaotic mess. The path is singular so all enemies with different speeds pass through one another all the time. By lategame everything swarms through and you have no idea what is happening. Are those 6 ghost dragons coming? 8? 10? Are those 20 liches? 30? You can't tell because for all you know there may be several creatures passing through one tile! Your defense units occupy their tile neatly but the rest is messy. You  will probably be unable to see chests or Pandora's boxes during waves, unless you pause. Then you can see drops but not enemies. What.

Also, like always homm battlefield is plain. In plants vs zombies you had to defend water, prepare against flyers with specific units etc. Nothing like that here, just one path without obstacles.

Overall it's not bad and more or less what you'd expect from h3 turned tower defense. Has some nice ideas and controls are easy but it'd like a clearer picture during endgame.

BTW does anyone have good tower defense games to recommend? Preferably fantasy themed and not terribly cartoon. But I wouldn't mind if the gameplay made it worthwhile.

Cursed Treasure is my favourite, followed closely by Kingdom Rush and Ghost Hacker. All of them have the "2" parts, which are nice as well (the second Ghost Hacker feels a bit... chaotic at times though).

Kingdom Rush is THE tower defense game. All three but my favorite is the second one, nothing beats the necro tower, so much fun.
